I have had a lot of friends ask me about the new abit and asus boards.

I told them to wait and see.
OR get an IC7. Not because
I have one but there are things to worry about.

1) Intel will tell them to quit and they will, grab a bios while you can.

2) Intel will patch their chip set so this can't be done any more, and again no more bios updates
even for the ones that do this.

2) Intel won't care (doubt this)

by the way I read some post that say this only works with 1:1 ratio
others say 5:4 and maybe 3:2,,,can anyone verify this?

thanks big time for any info and/or opinions
I hope they let the IS7 smoke some butt...keep up the speed

Chainbolt asks if I am sure I am running in 1:1
I have no clue what he is talking about.

I have changed nothing in the bios menu yet nor have I overclocked. The only thing I have done so far is change the bios from the one that came with it to 13 beta 4

Guess I'll look around the bios menu for this 1:1 thing

happy Sunday morning all
Got the raptor to run by disabling the #1 ide.
Now everything seems sweet.
I am running the version 4 bios.
maybe tomorrow I will have time to play with the settings.
running 2.5 6 3 3 at 2.65 volts and 1:1 ratio.
should I first change to 5:4?

for overclocking you definately want to go 5:4 above 220Mhz FSB especially

I am having trouble oc my 2.4C with my IS7 w/ stock HS/Fan. I have 1 stick of Corsair 3200. (Other stick is bad which I will RMA). This is my first oc. I can't seem to get over 250FSB. I set it to 5:4 and fixed the ratio thing. The ram is at 2.5,3,3,7. I also tried 3,3,3,7. I upped the voltage to 1.6 for cpu, and 2.8 for the ram. I tried the 3:2 ratio too. I could get into windows at 250 but I just get loud beeps when I try 255 no matter what I do. Haven't tested. How do I test the limits of my cpu and memory to see which one is holding me back? Everyone seems to be getting at least 3.2 on stock hs/fan.

I can get my 2.6 to 3.3 but it doesn't seem stable after long operations like Prime95 and specview perf measurement. It would depend on the chip I guess. Hit and miss.

Abit IS7 @ 210Mhz FSB
Corsair XMS3200 @ DDR420
Radeon 9700Pro

managed to boot at 220Mhz FSB but crashed when trying to open a program. Probably due to my PC3200 reaching the limit. Max temps at current speeds are 30C for system and 40C for CPU at idle. Under load with prime 95 the rise to 34C/46C respectively. This is with a Chieftec (antec clone) tower with 4 case fans and an Enermax Wisper 431 PSU which has a fan to expell hot air. Stock Intel HSF with AS3.

No issues at AGp 8x. Agressive memory timings are no go with current bios at DDR400. Needs an update.

Falcon 4 = 100fps max (my refresh) and never below 60fps

edit: after adjusting the vcore up to 1.6 and the vdim to 2.7 I got the board stable at FSB 215 DDR430

Ha ha, I got a higher 3dmark 2k3 score than you and i have half the cpu speed & less ram

yeah, but I bet 3dmark isn't that fun to play is it?

Come join a Q3 match or UT2003 match and see if you still feel the same way.

Becides now with my P4P800 I'm getting over 6k in 3dmark which in reality is like saying your Car does a 8second quarter mile but you drive it in stop and go traffic all the time so it's power is never realized.

and one more thing I don't overclock or tweak my Video card. Standard settings all the way. Quality over Quantity.

Ok I'm a complete newb, just built my first pc using an Abit IS7 mobo. I'm having problems with my optical drive not reading the cd properly. When I install Windows XP Home, I get a bunch of errors about not found a certain file, but if I hit retry it does seem to correctly find them. It doesn't seem to be a problem with the CD (since it will find the file when I hit retry), and it has happened with other cd's (my ATI video card install disc.) Also it doesn't seem to be problem with the optical drive since it does the same thing with a different optical drive. Anyone else run into this problem with their IS7? Should I just return the mobo and get another sample?

Thanks!

So..

In the same manner that someone on AT saw it fit to post [read: brag] that they were one of the few and "proud" first beta testers for Star Wars Galaxies, I decided to post the fact that I get better 3dMark scores than some idiot with almost twice the rig I have. So... if you don't like it, ignore it!

and this same idiot as you call me has a whole lot more posts here. That means you're the newb

Not to mention that my current 3dmark score far surpases my previous. Especially since I've done a bit of messing around with various settings and a 3.2Ghz CPU doesn't hurt

sounds like a classic memory issue, try one stick at a time or back off on the fsb in the bios. underclock if necessary.

I have the CNPS5700D-CU and it has a huge air deflector and it fits. There is not much room next to the caps towrds the rear of the board but it fits. I've got to say the retail fan is actually better for me temp wise.

I got my P4 2.4C to run at 3.0 GHz using the 5:4 divider and 250 FSB. My memory is still at 200 MHz and with 2-5-3-3 timings. Would 2-5-3-3 yield better performance or 2-6-2-2?

BTW I'm running core voltage at one step above default, is it possible to run 3.0 Ghz at core default voltage?

I tried pasting that link in the browser but the link is broken. I still havn't seen anyone with an IS7 actually mount a 7000CU or 7000ALCu, but I have seen pics at Abits forums of a guy with a IC7 and it has the same HSF on the northbridge. I also saw a persons forum sig and he said he had an IS7-E with the 7000CU, but that was just a sig. I looked at Zalmans site and looked at the pictures of boards that didn't fit, and it's just hard to tell.

it varies from chip to chip. Give it a try

There is a new version of CPU-Z which apparently can tell if "PAT" is enabled or not. If it is accurate then on my IS7 the thing that enables PAT is changing the bootstrap setting to PSB667, not the game acceleration settings.

I don't know if this is correct, but thought some other people might want to experiment with it.

I just got the IS7-E

it has a 3Com chip on it.
I tried installing both Win98se and Win2K, the ABIT driver CD autodetects and requests to install the 3Com gigabit LAN driver.

I tried Realtek drivers in Win2K - didn't work. In Win98se, I tried both the 3Com and the Realtek drivers...neither worked.

Also, for the USB2.0, there are only Win98 drivers inclucded. I thought Win2K would have auto detect and install the USB2.0 drivers itself...but it seems not able to, yet I can't find the suitable drivers.

Please Advise on the above issues... I am in a hurry to deliver this system to my friend as I built for him.

Thanx!
