I ran the sticks indivdually and in different slots and same problem. Very dissapointing because either I got bad memory that was supposed to work in dual channel mode (twinx) or I have a problem with mobo (which already has the dreaded onboard sound problem issue).

Well as I said "was having", currently I am awaiting new memory, Memtest found a ton of errors during test 5 phase with my ram (corsair twinx!), so I'm going to test when my replacement memory arrives and I'll let you know what I find out.

Whenever I enable the GAT, my memory would run at 160mhz and not sync with the FSB, which is 200mhz. I used CPU-Z to check and it displayed 5:4 in the FSBRAM box.

these are my settings
n/b strap = FSB800
divider= 1:1
AGP/PCI= fixed

GAT= F1
refresh cycle time= auto
read delay tRD= auto
read delay adjust tRDA= auto
command per clock CPC=auto

Memory timing=2-2-2-6

anything wrong?
I'm using the 7/14/2003 BIOS (version 1.5)

Set GAT to auto and CPU-Z showed me 1:1 divider back.
Is this a CPU-Z bug or I din set the GAT setting properly?

system config:
p4 2.4ghz
is7-G
2x 256 hyperX
120gb cuda v
r9500pro

If you ran memtest in Dual channel mode that may be your problem. I have had quiet a few different brands/sizes fail at test 5 when using dual channel mode. If I tested them one at a time they were fine.

Let us know what happens when you get the new memory. Are you getting it from the manufacture or the retailer?

Sorry if this question has been asked before, I didn't see it.
So here we go.

Can I
have pair of Kingston Hyper X 256meg Cas 2.5
and a pair of Kingston Hyper X 256meg Cas 2
at the same time?
I tried and I can get the computer to boot if I change the GAT to Auto and disable Read Delay Adjust and Command Per Clock.
I ran Sandra, PC Marks, 3D Marks and they ran fine, but I can't run Premiere Pro. I keep getting errors when it tries to load a project. Maybe Premiere Pro has to be re-installed after the memory upgrade?
I'll look in to that.
So if anyone could shed some light would be great.

What are your memory timing settings? I would think the only way you may be able to do that is to set the memory timings to that of the slowest modules. The CAS for example would have to be set to 2.5. This still may not work since memory modules run in dual channel should match exactly.

I did try to set the CAS to 2.5 and still had problems. So even the pairs have to be the exactly the same?
If that's the case then I'll do that.

From what I've heard, yes. I've never tried mismatched pairs so I can't personally say for sure. in DC mode the memory modules are "run parallel" (right?) so they have to be matched. You may want to try the other memory timings as well set to the slowest module. There's more settings than just the CAS.

Computer is correct. Dual channel mode is real picky. Even though those sticks are closely matched they may not work together. I would try 3-3-3-7 and see if that works. Also I do not recall you mentioning the speed of the memory. Are both stick the same?

orion,
Yes both sticks are DDR400MHz.
Just so I am not confusing anyone.

I have two sticks of Kingston HyperX DDR400-one in DIMM1 and one in DIMM 3

I have two sticks of Kingston HyperX DDR400-one in DIMM2 and one in DIMM4.

So I will try the memory settings.
Thanks

Are you saying that you are using 4 sticks of memory? If so that is your problem. 4 unmatched sticks trying to run Dual channel.

That is what I have said, But someone said that you should beable to do it if you where to change the timing. I guess he was trying to save me money.
But now it is working fine just by bumping the DDR voltage to 1.7 volts which is ok by Kingston.

1.7v? I think you mean 2.7v.

If they are all Kingston HyperX DDR400 then why do they have different timing specs? As long as the sticks are the same, they "should" work OK. They don't have to be "Dual Channel kits to work, but the DC kits are pre-tested, guaranteed to work, and are supposed to work better together (better stability, higher speeds, etc.). When the sticks are not pre-tested as in buying single sticks, your top speeds and fastest timings will be only be that of the weakest stick. In DC kits, they are matched to be batch identical.

At any rate if you got them working, that's good.

That's correct- I did mean 2.7volts.
I have done some more test last night and so far everything is working good. No errors or crashes.
Thanks for your help

Hi!

I am using a IS7-G, with the bios flashed to the latest version. I have my Western digital 80gig 8meg special edition plugged into IDE1 and my cd-drive into IDE2. I dont know about the rest of u, but evertime my bios posts it takes a couple of seconds to identify my ide drives, kinda slow if u would ask me. They are identified correctly as well. Both drives are jumpered to mastermode. If i remember correctly the bios booted faster before i flashed it. Is there any settings in bios that i should enable/disable for optimal performance?

My second question is: All of the GAT settings are set to auto in my bios and the system is running as stable as you would wish. But when it´s set to auto, does that mean that GAT is enabled or do i have to chose, between Turbo, streetracer or F1 to enable it???? All of the options in the softmeny are set to auto as well.

If i chose anything other then auto, then the comp will hang when posting. Do i have to increase the voltage to my memory or something?

Does it really matter in which order I install things after XP has been installed, just as long as everything works...or?

The Rig:

IS7-G
P4 2,8 800FSB
2x256 Twinmos dualkit
Powercolor 9800 PRO
Soundblaster Live 5.1 digital

disable the sata ports
disable onboard serial ata
select "none" for empty drive positions

GAT auto = GAT off
increase vdimm to 2.8v

Ok, fixed my bootup time! Disabled everything concerning SATA, RAID.

Not sure if I want to raise my vDimm to 2.8v, read that my twinmos memory are +/- 0,2v, so that should mean that max would be 2,7v.

Raised it to 2,7 volt and went with streetracer settings, didnt change any memorysettings beyond that. Booted up into window, but after 1-2 minutes my computer just crashed, starting with my keyboard not functioning, then everything just went black. Tried turbo settings, computer boots but hangs when it displays all of my irq settings before xp begins to load, tried F1, computer wont even boot with that settings, had to set my cmos jumper to "CLEAR" and then reboot.

I thought pat/gat, was enabled if u just got the latest bios. Is it really disabled if i have the settings on auto?.

What kind of scores should I get in Sisoft benchmarks?

TIA

300FSB reached!!! Temps last night were in the 50 degree mark outside and I had the windows in my computer room opened (about 55 ambient room temp). This enabled me to get to 300FSB 5:4 on my 2.4C and the temps never approached 60C under full load (Folding DC client running). So 3.6gig on air from a 2.4C..... I will not run the pc at that and will go back to 275 1:1. This was on my IC7-G. on my IS7 I was able to hit 290 with a different CPU.

EDIT: I did have to bump up the Vcore to 1.6

Is it possible to update the BIOS from a cd-rom (don't have a FDD)? I've tried to search the Abit site, but found nothing...

I do not think there is, however you can update while in windows. It works pretty good but I would highly recommend that if you use this method and you are overclocked, go back to stock settings before doing it. Also when it is done updating don't forget to follow the directions and clear the CMOS.

I clicked the runme batch file, but I don't think anything happened. On reboot it said "cmos checksum error, press f1 for defaults", or somethng like that. I pressed f1, and the bios date got set back to 06/10/2003.
What am I doing wrong?

Go here and download the Flash Menu utility The batch file you tried to run is the one that you run from a FDD. DL the above file and run it from with in windows. I believe it goes and gets the update automatically from the Abit website.

OK I have a question. I'm setting one up for a friend. IS7, SATA drive and 2 IDE drives. SATA is the boot drive with XP SP1. Works great when connected alone. But when I connect the two other older HDDs to IDE 1 (Master and slave) Windows XP won't load. Now one of the other two older drives does have Windows 98 SE on it. Would that make a difference?

Do you actually have to have TwinX mem or dual channel mem? Or will two identical sticks work? I got two 512 sticks of kingston value ram 2700 that will oc to atleast 3200 speads, but will they work if I upgrade?
