Abit is slow to update their BIOS download pages. They have yet to update the Rev 2.0 page to show BIOS 22... I don't think there is anything to worry about Elcs.

Well, ill still be waiting. This rig has needed a clean install for about 4 months now and I wouldnt risk a flashing on it until ive reinstalled.

Last time i did that, it crashed. Slot A Gigabyte board.... still works to this day though.... with quite a degree of stability.

Id feel safer in Windows (feels strange saying that)

The v1.x BIOS (24) is working good here.

I got a 1% increase in memory efficiency, now 94%.

For those of you not using FlashMenu, just put the bin on the floppy as usual.

Here is the latest info on the version 2.3 bios for the NF7-S 2.0:
BIOS release 2.3 for NF7 2.0 / NF7-S 2.0

Release information:

[ENGLISH]

1. Please use AWDFLASH 8.23D or later to update NF7 series BIOS. With
incorrect AWDFLASH version, the GUID will be erased, and leads to
IEEE1394 peer to peer function failed. AWDFLASH 8.23K is included
in this BIOS package.
2. Update SATA BIOS to v4.2.47 (FOR NF7-S ONLY).
3. Add an option to enhanced USB 2.0 device compatibility. User may set
the option to "enabled" in "Integrated Peripherals / OnChip PCI Device /
USB 2.0 Device Compatible".
4. Add auto shutdown function while CCMOS jumper is placed at PIN 2-3.
The correct setting is placed at PIN 1-2; the CPU core voltage will be
abnormally high if placed at PIN 2-3, system will shut down
automatically to protect CPU from damage.
5. Fixed the issue that SATA HDD boot up fail without PS/2 Mouse.
6. Hidden "SATA ROM BIOS" function on NF7.
7. Change the default year to 2004.
8. BIOS compile date: 03/24/2004.

is anyone having any problems with the NF7-S keeping time? (latest bios) this problem started recently

synching to time.mit.edu seems fine, within a day the clock is 5 minutes ahead
synching to time.windows.com seems fine, within a day the clock is 10 minutes ahead

No, I haven't seen that problem yet idea. I wonder, is there a chance your CMOS battery is starting to run low?

I've never had to replace a CMOS battery before in my life.. especially in a brand new computer. Plus, it's running fast when the computer's on. Isn't that controlled by software? I think the CMOS battery comes into play when the computer is off.

Yeah, I think you are right.

I checked my system for a similar time issue today before I left for work. My clock didn't gain or lose any time. But I don't synch to some time source like you are. I set the time per my trusty Timex Ironman and the two stay together nicely. Perhaps it's windows doing it to you...

I just noticed that ABIT posted a new BIOS, version 24 dated 3/29/04. It does not seem to have a different Bios for the Revision 2 board. I guess the BIOS can now be used for either board.

Edit: Downloaded version 24. Readme file shows this is for board revision 1.0 and 1.2 only. Looking at the changes, I would say that BIOS 23 is the latest for board revision 2.0.

What brand/wattage Power Supply are you using? Does it have the small 4-pin Power Connector? Have you tried another graphics card in the board?

Strange problem....

Are you sure you are seating the card in the AGP slot completely? Is there a capacitor on the mobo or video card that is keeping the card from seating properly?

Is the AGP slot clean? I think I remember that rubbing the contacts with an eraser should clean them... just make sure you brush away any shavings.

It seems quite rare to have a problem with NF7-S'es that is actually the boards fault... if we seem to be throwing loads of random suggestions into the pot, then thats the reason. You could always try the official ABIT Forums and see what suggestions they come up with.

Re new nVidia drivers for this board (NF7-S). I installed them and had problems with onboard NIC (much reduced connection speed) and SW-IDE (ATI All-in-Wonder MM configuration utility would not recognize my drives as DMA enabled, when in fact they were) I re-installed older NIC and IDE drivers (choosing NOT to install the SW-IDE drive) and everything works fine now. FYI, the new Audio and Mixer drivers are great.
