Sorry, I meant audio drivers and audio utilities... I must have been rushed when I banged that post out.

Its ok, we all do it sometimes

Thanks for the help. Once you translated your garbled mess, it sorted it out in 2 seconds flat.

Now I have the truely crisp sound that this Soundstorm is capable of.

Hey, Im kinda new to the Overclocking crowd. I have the factory BIOS in my mobo. It works fine, but I was wondering if I should flash to the newest one. I noticed there are like 15 BIOS updates after mine. Is there high risk that I will fubar my BIOS chip when I flash? I have never flashed BIOS before.

System:
ABIT NFS-7 V2.0
Tbred B 1800+ (1.5 V standard) OCed to 11x200 @ 1.7V
Mushkin PC3500 level 2 2x512

It's a relatively safe procedure. But if your system is doing well there really is no need to upgrade the BIOS.

My board came with BIOS 16, I upgraded to BIOS 18 and then later to BIOS 21. I used Abit FlashMenu each time to do the update and I had no problems. Then again, I also got no performance increases either. The only reason I flashed to BIOS 21 was to be able to play with the NVidia System Utility.

I dont want to sound stupid, but how do you know exactly what BIOS you have. Is it on the initial screen that goes by too quickly to even see?

Get AIDA32, it's easy to find with that program. It's free too...

But yes, the BIOS rev. shows up on the POST screen. You can press pause to see the details if you'd like.

Yeah. Conflicting driver and application versions. Obviously some install program decided not to work properly or more likely, user error.

How are you guys pulling the SPDIF header out to the 'digital out' connector on the back? The Media Center XP from Abit for this board is about the price of an entire new board!!

Your question is unclear.

The SPDIF connnector is for additional components.

IE: If you need a digital RCA output connector,,, this is where you would connect the leads.
(rather than the Optical output)

I need an Optical Digital cable to connect to a receiver. Don't I have to hook up the lead on the motherboard to the port on the back of the motherboard (SPDIF out). Interesting, I just stuck my finger there and it glowed red. It must be live!! What is the motherboard header for then?

I bought the Abit NF7-S a few months back and it's been cutting out since I got it! I physically have to remove everything from the case, card wise, memory, and such to get it to work again. It seems to like to stay down for a while before it goes back up. I bought this board after HardOCP suggested it as the best board for OC'n, which I haven't done yet.

Does anyone know if I just have a defective board or is there a fix for this? I'll subscribe to this thread so I'll get your feedback.

We could do with more information such as Ram type/brand, hdds, optical devices, processor etc. as well as the revision number of the NF7-S you have ie. 1.1, 1.2 or 2.0. PSU wattage/brand and usual voltages would be good as well... specifically the 5V and 12V lines.

Sounds like a strange problem to me from the info given but im sure its solvable.

I would suggest making a new thread just for your problem.
That way this thread doesnt get hijacked.

Stats on my stuff, minus the power supply are...

Corsair XMS PC2700 (512mb)
and, Abit NF7-S 2.XX (I checked using Belarc)

Not sure about the rest. My buddy did mention he had the SAME problem with his abit however.

Just recommended this board to one of my dads friends.... problem is he has a question that I cant find the answer to.

Is there any way to physically distinguish a 2.0 from a 1.1/1.2? I doubt there are any old revision boards left but its always possible and I dont want my dads friend having problems because a vendor sold him a previous revision.

My pc is now neatly tucked away and it would take too long to move it... etc.. so I need your help (again)

yes, there should be a sticker on the motherboard that tells you if its a v2.0 or 1.1. But if you don't want to open up your case you can just dl the program aida as many have said before. Then click on "motherboard" and the "motherboard" again. It should tell you info about your motherboard such as revison.

Cant do that before you buy it though.

To confirm if ver. 2 ur gonna have to open the box (cuz it aint on the o/s) look for the sticker indicating which version next to the PCI slots.

Mine told me on the outside.... but you confirmed something I thought might be a problem. Not every box has a sticker on it telling someone what it is. That was the purpose of my question

Ok, so I picked up a NF7-M because I am not big into games and thinking it's overclocking abilities must be close to the NF7-S. I was definitely wrong, I could run my 1800 @ 2.45Ghz on a cheap AK79D-400VN, I can't keep the system stable @ 2.3Ghz now. Has anyone tried any overclocking with their M boards, please let me know your findings.
