Doing some research, IGP motherboards aren't the strongest overclockers. I have seen few that do >200 fsb. That would have been nice to know!!!

Hey, do any of you know if this board supports 3 dimms of DDR 400??
The Abit site says that is only supports 2 dimms of DDR400 and 3 dimms of DDR333.
I wanted know if any of you are running it with 3 dimms of DDR400. Looked at the Asus Nforce2 400 board and it
says it supports 3 dimms of DDR 400. Thanks!

I don't see why it shouldn't be able to handle 2 sticks of DDR400.
EDIT: Meant 3 sticks.

So basically, no one has ever put 3 DDR 400 dimms in this motherboard to see if it works???

You only asked roughly 2 1/2 hours ago. Give some people a chance to read this thread. Not everyone reads this 24/7 and they arent all American.

Sorry, I didn't mean to sound pushy, I am just interested in buying this board and I have 3 sticks of DDR 400
and I wanted to know if all three would still work in this board and still give me DDR 400 speed even
though ABIT says it only supports 2 dimms of DDR 400.

Currently won't support 3 sticks of DDR 400 due to Bios/chipset limitations. Maybe in the future with a bios update, but not now.

I've read reports from people who have run three sticks at 200 FSB and more. Usually the overclock is less with three sticks than two. For example, one guy could run at 225 FSB with two sticks, but only 205 FSB with three.
The consensus seems to be that if you want to use three sticks in dual channel, you need to have 1 x 512 MB and 2 x 256 MB. You put the 512 MB in slot three and the 256 MB's in slots one and two, then you have the same amount of memory in each channel.
Three 256 MB sticks also work, but not all the memory will function in dual channel mode.

Id like to start a topic and ask a question here so....

If you could add anything, change anything or mod the NF7-S Rev 2.0.... and it has no chance of failure etc..
What would you change/add?

Personally, Id like a second LAN port so I could scrap my PCI card. Id actually like to move the RAM slots so that I didnt have to remove my GeForce4 Ti4400 every time I wanted to mess on with my RAM. Thirdly, Id like to see an onboard joystick controller with port.

Onto my question, I need a joystick port for my PC. However, I want to still use Soundstorm as I dont want to buy a superior soundcard since Im more than happy with Soundstorm. I have an old SB128 PCI card lying around that still works.... could I pop that card in, use the joystick port and still use Soundstorm or will there be problems/conflict?

I'd add a fourth memory slot like on the Gigabyte boards so I could run 2GB of RAM without paying the big bucks for 1GB sticks...

I'd also like to see the AGP slot moved down a notch, having to take out this monstrous 5900 sucks whenever I want to swap RAM.

On the joystick question, it should work but I don't have any experience with it.

If you absolutely are set on running three DDR400 DIMMs you can bump the northbridge voltage in the BIOS.

What's the best BIOS revision for overclocking V2.0 of this motherboard? I have the original BIOS that comes with this motherboard. If someone knows of the better version can you please link me to it? Thanks.....

Question time before I go buy something....

Is anyone using their Digital outputs on the NF7-S R2.0? Just noticed my stereo has a SPDIF port and I already connect it to my PC through analogue ports so.... for a few ££ I can change from Analogue to Digital...

Anyone having problems or had problems doing this?

I'm about to upgrade from an Epox 8RDA+ (v1) to the NF7-S.

Since these are both Nforce2 MB's (orginal chip and ultra400), would it be reasonable to attempt swapping the MB's, hitting the power button and seeing what Win XP pro does?

Would a better option be to use the recovery feature off of the Win XP install disk?

What do you think?

I wouldn't.

I'd save all your stuff to a spare partition.
Then, do a clean install.
