Can I adjust the cpu fan speed on the NF7-S? I have a Volcano 7+ but no speed switch. Plugged in to the motherboard it is running full speed (5800 rpm) and sounds like a hair dryer. No good in my Antec Sonata case.
If you have a 3 to 4 pin adapter you can try plugging it into the fan-only header on the PSU, but watch your temperatures if you do that. If they go too high (over 60C) then I'd think about a Zalman Fanmate.

Thanks MDE. I think I will just try to find the speed switch for the Volcano.

How about this problem. Can't get my USB ports on the motherboard ports to work. Of course, the USB/Firewire bracket has a connector for the USB pins and this is plugged in. Also have a connectors plugged in for the front USB ports on my case. Neither the front nor USB bracket ports will work. However, the two built-in ports near the audio connectors work fine.

I have updated to bios 23. Made sure USB is enabled in the bios. Installed SP1 for XP. Installed Abit USB 2.0 drivers. Uninstalled and re-installed the USB hubs in Device Manager, several times. Windows seems to detect the two usb hubs on the motherboard, but I get no response from them when I plug anything in to them.

I know there have been some problems with USB on this MB, but this is driving me crazy. I would think they might be defective, but probably not two and also Windows detects them.

Here's a question:

I installed my revision 2.0 NF7-S board in my Antec Overture Case. I had everything hooked up, I pushed the power button, it went on for about two seconds and then is shut down. The 'power connected' led on the board stayed red. I unplugged everything, made sure the spacers screws were all right and then pressed power again. Again the fan turned on for two seconds and then just shut down. Is my board bad?

The NF7-S is one of only 5 compatible boards that runs the utility. However, apparently they haven't worked out the controls for the voltage or fans yet.

Any suggestions on a utility program that can tweak the voltage levels.

A better program ( I have found ) is Clockgen. NVidia's program caused me to crash. Clockgen was much more reliable. Neither utility would deal with multiplier, only FSB for CPU and AGP.

BDSM:

Speedfan works great. I don't think it is a permanent solution, but it works for notw.

Gepost.. why not a permanent solution? I've hd it running for years. I have the cpu fan running at 1800 rpm for most of the time and I have programmed it to go to 3000 rpm when the cpu reaches 50 C. This way I can have very low idle noise without risking overheating during heavy loads.

I tried running the board outside the case - still nothing. Do you think it's the power supply or the motherboard itself? Or could it be the cpu? If it was the cpu, wouldn't the board beep or something? right now I'm getting no sound at all.

If you can try a different motherboard and PSU. Have you tried to clear the CMOS?

There's a yellow jumper near the battery that you need to move. It should be on pins 1 and 2, move it to 2 and 3 for a couple seconds and then back. Check the manual for the exact pin numbers.

EDIT: Here's a pic of where the jumper is.

Okay, I give up. I tried everything I could think of and will just use a USB hub for now. I guess I will get a USB 2.0 add-in card. They are only about ten dollars

I read in the ABIT Forum for the NVidia Chipset, that there are new BIOS for this board, however, the ABIT-USA web site still shows the older versions as being the latest. Anyone know anything more about this?

Yes, there is a new BIOS for the R2 boards. I loaded it yesterday, it fixes some ps/2 mouse/keyboard problems.

does the new bios fix the temperature reading, because mine looks really high!

Although this MB reads higher than others, it is probably more accurate.
Don't worry about temps as long as you can run programs like prime95 without errors.

No it doesn't. Sorry. But pelikan is right, if your temps are less than 65C at load then you are ok.

I have clocked my Athlon 2400XP at 11.5*200 and everything passes days of Prime95 and Memtest86. Then after about a week, I start noticing errors in both tests.

I have sent one stick back to Corsair for them to replace. Now the second stick that I have has gone bad! The two sticks were never in the motherboard at the same time.

Any idea why the RAM is going bad? I have not upped the voltage on the RAM or even used aggressive timings. I am using the latest BIOS and I use Win2k. I have a 525w Leadman PSU.

The first stick that went bad was: Corsair CMX512-3500C2PT 512MB DDR433 PC3500 XMS Memory

The second stick was: Corsair VS512MB400 512MB DDR400 PC3200 CAS2.5 Value Select Memory

Any ideas? Is the motherboard killing my RAM?

I did a fresh install of XP with APIC enabled in bios. I wanted to see if there was any difference in performance, as I had always disabled APIC. It caused sound stuttering in games. So I had to reinstall xp with APIC disabled and now everything is back to normal.

It's a bios option. It can only be changed sucessfully prior to a full install. APIC is the most common cause of sound issues in nforce2 mb's. There may be a slight performance hit when its disabled because you get like 400 less in 3DMark01. But who cares if it solves an issue. And AMD actually recommends disabling APIC.

Can you give an example of a sound problem with your board? I remember getting weird reverb in Enter The Matrix when using SoundStorm but that's only game that I had trouble with.

Yeah, in Far Cry, with APIC enabled, the sound cuts out for a split second every minute or so during graphic intense parts of the game.
