If it's 1.9 ... you have a mystery MB on your hands.

The 1.2's (like mine) were shipped with BIOS 15. VDD maxed at 1.7.

BIOS 16 also maxes at 1.7.

Most of us going over 200fsb need 1.825 VDD to stablize 3d apps.
Thats why a voltage mod is posted at Abits forums right now.

Most of us can run Prime95 at higher FSB but, 3d apps lile 3dMArk benchmark will freeze or crash to desktop.

this NF7S has been both voltage and vdd modified so that explains reason why VDD can go higher than 1.7 volts

memory starts this way

2.6 is actually 2.75
2.7 is actually 2.86
2.8 is actually 2.98
2.9 i havent tried yet but should be close to 3.1 volts

My brand new NF7-S 1.2 is a lemon - dead on arrival. Leds are lit, fans are working, but no post, no video signal, no nothing. I tested it using multiple RAM sticks, 3 video cards, 2 PSU units, extra bios chip, CMOS clearing - no avail. My local computer store also confirmed it - board is dead. When I checked Abit's forum I noticed A LOT of people are having the same problems. When I called the online store for RMA, what I understood from the conversation was that this wasn't an uncommon situation. It looks to me that although this board has some excellent features, it's quality is not of the highest standard. Take it as a warning.

FYI, Abit has now produced a version 2.0 NF7-S board, which is "400 MHz FSB-ready". Text

Which do you guys think is better 8rda+ or NF7-S 1.2? I can get a 8rda+ for $99 while the NF7-S 1.2 would be $135, and the only reason I can think of for the NF7 is the vdd setting in bios. Other than that I don't really care for SATA or Soundstorm. Do you guys know how easy it would be to mod a 8rda+ with SMD Grabbers? What do you need to do that other than the grabbers?

Here's an XP fix to high IDE CPU utilization for those having HDD performance issues:

Fix and Discussion courtesy of John.

There seems to be some discord over its effectiveness, and I haven't tried it myself (my main array doesn't run through the IDE headers), but its worth a shot for those with issues.

i'm switching now from a 8rda+ to a nf7-s (burnt out my 8rda+)

so if i'm correct these are the basic issues people have encountered:

1. bios corruption
2. cpu utilization issues with xp sp1

now my questions:

1. are there any other issues people are having?

2. also with the cpu utilization, is that with all versions of the board (1.0-1.2)?

3. does the cpu utilization issues occur if you use SATA? i read that the box comes with a "serillel" converter (parallel to serial converter)... is it better to just use SATA then?

4. i was looking at the board layout on the website but couldn't tell where the SATA goes... where it connects to the board i mean...

thanks!

only problem is have is modem disconnects on me when i am burning a CD.

serial ata 150 hooks up at the bottom right hand side of the motherboard

suggestion from a friend of mine is to take small steps when you go to overclock the fsb. seems this board doesnt like big jumps in fsb

nice!

well.. if you define lil that way... it doesn't seem too bad

did you do the pencil trick thing to get 1.9V for the vdd?

seems simple enough according to that read from overclockers.com

resistors was used on both the memory and VDD mods on this board.

had someone else do the modifications on the board

some Abits are better than others . there was a thread going on xtreme about where chipsets were made as to reflecting how high of a fsb some could go. that was on xtreme forums which is down at the moment

Hi All,

To start, This is my configuration:
300w ATX Mid-Tower Case with Intake and Exhast Fans.
AMD Athlon (thunderbird core) @1200mhz w/200mhz core
ThermalTake Volcano 7 CPU HSF
Non-Brand Name PC2100 266mhz DDR-SDRAM @ row 4-5 256mb
ABiT NF7-S motherboard (If your reading this, I believe you know the fixens on this) w/ BIOS V1.6
Western Digital WD200 20Gb ATA(PI)100 7200RPM HDD on the Serial ATA port 2 at ATA(SI)150.
40x Compaq (NEC) PIO-4 CD-Rom and 12x10x32x AOpen Justlink CD burner PIO-4 on Primary E-IDE Parrallel port
I have the USB 2.0 Back Plate (making 4 USB ports) and the IEEE 1394 Back Plate added (only 2 Firewire)
MSI MS-8850 G3ti200 Pro-VT128 video- Geforce 3 Ti200, Agp 4x, 128mb DDR, Video-In&Video-Out. Added Extralarge Heatsink-Backside
Using On board Sound and everything else on-board, the video is the only card added in.

I have a Problem Though. I use this PC for gaming (and it can still push up the performance), I m running Windows 2000 with service pack 3 (no other windows updates have been used except for the installment of SP3) and Direct X 9.0a. The Nvidia Detonator drivers are from MSI and are Detonator 40.72 drivers. When playing Highly Detailed and Demanding Games- such as Hitman 2: Silent Assassin, With everything tweaked to full settings, the games runs very smooth. But yet it crashes and win2k notes the error coming from (nvmcp.sys). Taking note that the Chipset on the mobo is the MCP2-T, I am taking a crack guess at it is the Audio device, I have the EAX turned off in the game, and all other features of sound turned off. But yet it still compromises the crashing. Then I took a crack shot at the video, With all the true features of the video card turned off(spread spectram,fast-writes,video ram cacheing, antiailising, aniostropic filtering, texture sharpening, fog table emulation, mipmap bias at "blend", OpenGL texture conforment, and the "digital vibrance" which is virtually just the brightness of the card gamma) all of this is off. And in the game I disabled the unique settings of (Direct X texture Compresion, DVP bump-mapping, Filtering to Bi-Linear). but still left the field of view and view distance, etc. at full (hey it has 128mb VRAM to roam on), but then instead of crashin and windows having to restart, it just returns to windows and says that the hitman2.exe has generated errors and windows is creating an error report. I don't know whats wrong, but in other games, such as Delta Force task force dagger and GTA2, there are no problems at the minimal settings as I listed I made. Can anyone Help?

Thanks,
Ryan

P.S. There are NO heating problems in this system, The Video Card stays at promptly 40 degrees Celcius (even at full stress) cpu at 55 degrees celcius fully stressed.

Oh yeah , As i was reading on the lists of comments, The full FSB speed of this mother board is expected to top of at 667 I belive, and the day that the AMD socket A processor comes out supporting this FSB will be on Mid-model the AMD Athlon-64 processors, and by the way, are those processors going to still be on the Socket A/462 ZIF?
