Absolutely to high. Dont worry. It will not last. When 1070 is 370 this is 240. Yeaa ...

But there will be other cards. The interesting part is the gpu can go so high. Good news.
That may take a while. Hopefully the other models are $250-270.

I don't see the 1070 reaching that mythical 370 price point anytime soon. Not when the $300 price point is filled by the 1060.

460 and 470 Ashes Benchmarks spotted (via Reddit)

460 isn't looking all that great performance wise, it's just trailing the 960. At the right price though it could still prove a good update path from older cards and it won't likely be bottlenecked by older/weaker CPUs.

The 470 is practically even with the 480 here which isn't a surprise given how little it's cut down (2048 vs 2304 SPs presumably clocked about the same). I think the 470 could prove an even better budget bargain than the 480. The 1060 may be a thorn for the 480 but with the last rumors putting the 1050 in December it looks like AMD will have the $150 price point to themselves.

Remember price points. 460 is supposed to be ~$100, not $200 for 960, that is the 470 for ~$150-175.

Rx 470 could well turn out to be the best Polaris GPU for perf/watt and perf/$. We know that AMD pushed past the sweet spot of voltage/freq with Rx 480. In fact Rx 480 cards got performance improvement by undervolting which reduced clock throttling due to hitting the power limit.

https://www.computerbase.de/2016-06/radeon-rx-480-test/12/

AMD Crimson 16.7.1 in fact reduced the voltage at the higher P-states and brought performance improvements over the launch drivers. I doubt if any reference card can sustain 1266 Mhz boost at stock power and fan profile even after 16.7.1. Maybe if power limit is pushed to +20% and fan speed is ramped up we might see 1266 mhz sustained. Rx 480 custom designs should show how much performance was being lost by the ref design.

Rx 470 seems to follow the legacy of GPUs like HD 7950 and R9 290. At the same clock it should be 2-3% slower than Rx 480. Even at its stock boost speeds it should be very close to Rx 480. If partner cards hit the USD 149 price point with good designs this is the GPU to get for 1080p gamers. The price perf would be much superior to Rx 480 8 GB and even Rx 480 4 GB.

You don't need to ramp up fan speed (e.g. custom fan profile). The limitation up to 1266 MHz is power not temperature.
Computerbase.de proved that by just increasing power target, stock cards running 1266MHz in all tested games.

I want to cry after seeing how wonderful is turning to be the RX 460.

Is a little beast. Trashes even the 750Ti and trade blows against the 960!. To make it better... is a CUT DOWN version, so the full one can be a true danger to the 1050 (as the RX 465)... nVIDIA maybe did a big mistake by underestimate the low tier AMD cards. Wondering if AMD can go even further and releases the fanless R7 450 at 69 dollars nVIDIA won't have reaction on that.

Also the RX 470 and 480 are being holding back by the GDDR5, in the same fashion of the GTX 1070.

Maybe AMD is waiting to see GDDR5X/HBM2 more cheap to be produced in order to implement it as 475 and 485?

PowerColor RX 480 Devil Pictured With A Custom Backplate And Overclocked GPU Clock Speed Info – Will Be Announced Soon

http://wccftech.com/powercolor-rx-480-devil-clock-speeds-leak/

However, the massive cooler has also allowed the manufacturer to ship out the GPU with a factory overclock frequency of 1336MHz, with 1400MHz as its Turbo speed.

Nah. Who prices something @ $312 USD? That's probably a conversion from a foreign currency and might or might not include GST/VAT.
OcUK has the card on Pre Order for a 18% premium over their cheapest 8GB ref card. Expect $260 to $270 for the card.

Don't even understand why anyone still cards about this card. It was good at $240. At $250-280 it's reasonable. Not a good deal but given the competition it's just where it is but at 300 or more? Are you guys serious?

There is no way this card is worth $300 no matter the cooler. Don't know why anyone is respecting this ridiculous pricing.

I'm pretty sure that's in line with most of the comments here. I think you're right on the money. $300 is way too close to the 1070 for it to be a good deal. I still think the $200 I spent on the 4gb 480 was the deal to get if you were lucky enough to snag one. I honestly didn't see the value in the ref 8 gb for $240.

Sad part is it still falls in line with the price/perf of 1070 since those are still way over MSRP. Cheapest has been $400 which is still 25% more expensive than even a $300 480. With the hefty OC's it will be probably be close to 25% under the 1070.

Wish they'd all sell for their MSRPs! $370 1070s and $200-250 480s please!

The article is wrong the powercolor is 10 £ more than their reference 8gb card. Meaning in the US it should come out to be $260-270.

Its in competition with the 1060 but since the FE editions will be available tomorrow for $299 and then later the AIB models will show up. I forget if non reference 1060 will also be on sale tomorrow.

Roughly those will sell for the same prices $250-280. Will see reviews tomorrow but only reason I'd go with amd right now is better dx12 support for long term in case I dont want to upgrade again next round.

I wish that Amazon visa coupon had not expired I would have gotten a 4gb 480 for $169, flashed it to 8gb and called it a day.

If prices really show up as $300 or more then the cheapest 1070 I can find is what I'm getting.

1070's MSRP is $380...
Yes but we've never seen it at that price. All we saw was FE prices and then that's what remained on newegg and other sites. The closest one to that is the $399 gigabyte that's been out of stock since it was placed on newegg.

Everyone keeps saying that's the msrp but it has yet to sell for that price. The amd arefernece cards at least were the actual price.

Me either on launch day. Had three different 8GB ones in my cart and could never pull the trigger. Plus too many were $250.

Then I jumped the second I could on a 4GB $199 model, then regretted that decision a day later because console bloat might jack up requirements in console ports, then we all learned about the 8GB thing and I got those regretted 4GB back.

Actually it's the first time ever a computer product I bought upgraded after I got it to quell my buyer's remorse without me spending any more money. AMD should patent that, it boosted my opinion of them.

Lol.

"With AMD, you can download free performance with Vulkan/DX12 and to show you how generous we are, you can also download free +4GB VRAM..." market that!

My retail buddies said they have shipments of like 20:1 for RX 480 8GB vs 4GB. It seems AMD knew this would happen, generating extra buzz for them.

We started getting excited about this performance at the $200 level then amd said $230-240 or whatever for the 8gb model and then the cards released and it's $250-260 now then we see aib models and we're in the $260-320 range.... And then we see the 1060 at $300 for the fe edition and then we know aib and other models will even be higher...

We essentially let a $200 price point performance level turn into a $300. Sorry this whole generation right now is a joke. Not buying right now. These prices are a joke from both companies.
