So 1420 vs 2100Mhz! I hope AMD improves OC more.maybe New wafer with excellent Yeild

so now it's going to be: well nVIdia > @ clock/Watt....which matters, why?

If 480X custom boards are already matching in some cases and beating in other cases all 1060 (ref & custom) in performance at roughly 50% the clock, it now only leaves the fact that 480 does draw roughly 40-50 more Watt to do this.

This will be a clever couple of weeks of spin if this type of data holds out to be true.

:hmm:

Doom is not just Vulkan but also the fact that Id Soft optimized for Intrinsic Shaders.. I think most of the gains come from the optimized draw calls and intrinsic shaders.. and a bit from async compute but not much.

So it's really down to developers leveraging those features present on AMD's cards.

I am hoping future Bethesda games use Id Tech 6 engine. Also there are something like 60+ titles in development using DX12 which has the same capability. All future Valve games will be Vulkan as well, like Dota 2.

In reality probably not all games will be this well optimized but in either case AMD cards should see some nice gains from most of them.

yes yes: please give me a TES6 2017/2018 that will be crushed by a mid-2016 480 class card. Now imagine what a late 2017/mid-2018 Polaris or Vega would be doing by then...

I'm really liking the benchmarks of the sapphire. I would assume the powercolor would be similar? I may just grab that today if I can.

But the nitro seems more tempting I just hate more waiting.

Also, what is the general consensus? Will the 4gb versions perform the same as the 8gb ? All those benches seem to be from the 8gb nitro.

Kind of in a tough dilemma too. Got a call from my father asking if I had an extra monitor I could give him for his business.

I've been thinking of going 1440p for a few months now. This could give me a reason to finally get a new monitor.

But then that means I need a more powerful card and I would have to go 1070 or something high end from last gen like the 980ti or Fury.

Not sure what to do now.

Just go into hibernation and wait until November/December for 485/480.

Or just get 1070 or 2x 4gb 480 nowish?

480 is fabbed at the infamous GF. The fact that it is released is a giant success. 1300+MHz clocks are nothing to sneeze at when you know where these chips come from. The power consumption is not great, but hey, it is GF. AMD can definitely adjust pricing on those chips, as they are filling their WSA with those. As a matter of fact, I would love if they could add a contra-revenue to polaris
Everybody knows there is a room for improvements. AMD knew it long before the release. That is why they pre-annouced new revision of the polaris. New revision, with better clocking, better power draw, maybe GDDR5X when the availability pushes prices down.

I'd get the 1070 or get a 480 4GB and an aftermarket cooler. I'll let you know how my adventure goes.

I'm thinking of this monitor:

http://m.newegg.com/Product/index?i...1TY3K_S84ondXtXtqfU7MRoCp7Xw_wcB&gclsrc=aw.ds

Of course I would be spending a lot since I'd have to buy whatever 1070 is available right now.
Damn. Good price there. So, one whole month for custom cards. Worse than nvidia at this stage on a paper launch. Probably won't see decent availability for any cards until late August at the earliest.
Yea I think sapphire will do the same, announce tomorrow and available the 29th if you are lucky to get one. Otherwise, wait for September lol.

Sapphire hasn't announced an official release date for the Nitro have they? I see a bunch of ppl suggesting tomorrow, but I havent seen anything from Sapphire. If anything I'm thinking they might announce tomorrow like powercolor did today.

I don't know why they call that monitor ultrawide... it's a 16:9 ratio.
Yea I'm not sure either, it's the most affordable one I can go for unless I got for a BenQ model with bad bezels.

I've read some articles saying gibbo confirmed August but I have no idea anymore. I'm assuming announcement tomorrow and available the 29th.

It's likely based on the ETA info for pre-orders from OcUk:

  • 8GB card has 22 July
  • 4GB card has 5 Aug

Check your PM asap. I sent you a good deal on a 27" 1440p IPS 144Hz monitor.
Thanks I took a look. Woah on newegg it's $549. Pretty crazy that this monitor cost more than my 42 inch TV lol.

What was wrong with the Acer I posted, probably only 60hz?

Fake..
In GTA5 rx480 nitro at 1420Mhz is 27% faster than stock rx480 at 1200mhz.
Clock difference is only 18%...
Same with all games BTW.

Is it a miracle if there were people getting almost 10% improvements on stock just by undervolting the card. 480 ref is horrible, and throttles like 290x ref.

If GPU is OCed so would be the memory.. So greater % than GPU clock difference is possible but 27% might be a stretch however. Also there is the whole power limiting thing that might manifest itself to a greater effect than the avg. 1200Mhz suggests.

So true about the global foundries part I half expected this card to just not even work. Gf doesn't have the best track record

You guys are prejudging GloFo based on their past performance. Having played with my rx480 OCing and undervolting.. it's a great chip. This is Samsung's 14nm FF.. it's good stuff.

AMD and Nvidia are closer on relative performance/efficiency now then they were back on the same 28nm process.

The Reference card cannot stay at 1200 in many cases. People who undervolt their cards actually get on average 10% improved performance without overclocking at all.

An AIB card that can sustain its clocks is going to have greatly improved performance.

The graphs may be fake, but I have no doubt that the AIB cards will perform MUCH better than reference. Just look back at 290X reference to 290X AIB.
