I find it interesting that the 7700K has the largest chunk out of Intel's revenue while there is a very nice distribution in revenue between the 1600X/non-X and the 1700X/non-X for AMD. This means that all of these CPUs are more or less equally popular among customers depending on their appeal. So it suggests that there is no cannibalizing in between SKUs as the initial pricing segmentation might have suggested.

Looks like AMD might cut prices on Ryzen as retailers seem to be lowering prices ahead of Coffeelake launch. Its great to see such strong competition from Intel and AMD push the cost of performance lower.

Yeah, great time to be an enthusiast, no matter your preferred platform.

Yep. I think AMD will make some aggressive price cuts to retain the perf/$ advantage till Pinnacle Ridge arrives to address Ryzen's biggest disadvantage - clock speed.

Unless you’re trying to buy a new GPU. The prices are massively inflated right now for anything below the high-end. At least people will be able to save on the CPU side.

I was just looking at fast DDR 4 Ram for a possible Ryzen build and even 16g of decent speed ram is pricey. More then I would like to spend but seeing as Ryzen likes faster ram it might be a necessity.

It really depends on your expectations. Going from 2133 to 3200 is a huge leap, but 3000 to 3200 not as bad. Just pick what you can afford. Not sure the best price/performance, I just always gets the best.

Where I am 16gb 2133 is about 220, 16gb of 3200 is 250. So the price premium is pretty small. It's just ddr prices in general that suck

In general, Ryzen's fantastic effect on the CPU side of things was completely offset by DRAM and GPU prices. It's really unfortunate timing, as I imagine more Ryzen systems would be sold if prices for a whole PC didn't inflate due to DRAM and GPU prices.

Whoa... ~30% gains to minimums using 3600/14 RAM.

For months now I've been suspecting the main culprit for large delta between Skylake and Zen in gaming clock for clock was memory latency. Which is why I dearly hope Pinnacle Ridge massively improves on the memory controller.

Ryzen's IMC is already pretty damn impressive. The only things I see wrong with Ryzen on the IMC/IF side are that:

1). You can't alter the ratio between DRAM speed and IF speed
2). Most Ryzen CPUs top out at DDR4-3466, or DDR4-3600 if you're lucky and have the right board

Intel chips have been able to hit DDR4-4000 for awhile now. It would be highly beneficial for Ryzen to reach those memory speeds.

Yeah. I hope AMD's got some IMC improvements to go along with clockspeed improvements in Pinnacle Ridge. Ryzen needs lower memory latency and support for higher DDR4 speeds such as DDR 4000+

What I am most impressed with is that Ryzen is a great part right out of the gate. New architecture, and a new (to them) process at the same time. There is likely some low hanging fruit there to be picked, and what started great will just get better. Well done AMD. Not a single person on this board thought that these parts would be worth much at all this time last year. And we were all pleasantly surprised.

The latency is quite a bit higher on Ryzen than on Intel at equal settings.

Or DRAM. DRAM prices suck.

I finally convinced myself to pay $185 for a 3200/14 16GB kit I was just reusing a cheap Gskill 2400MHz kit I bought with Skylake a couple years back, which ran 2400MHz for a while but with the latest 1.0.0.6b BIOS update is stuck at 2133. It is a little bit surprising to me how large the difference even between 2133 and 2400 feels in the only game I'm playing at the moment, PUBG ... stutters and minimums at the slower speed are much worse and more frequent.

I really wanted to grab a 32GB kit, but with these prices :O I paid under $50 for this cheap-o GSkill kit ...

Always has been, for AMD. Have you looked at the bandwidth numbers though? Also, have you considered the effects of IF speed on memory latency? I don't think any of us fully understand the effects of the IF on latency, since it isn't adjustable independently of RAM clock.

where art thou, samsung green ram?

This has probably already been discussed but what is the best RAM to put into a Ryzen build, lets say a 1600/1600x?

RAM speed
Distributor (Crucial, Patriot...)
Number of Sticks (2,4...)

etc.

First, do you need 16 or 32 gig ? (most likely 16?)
I would go with 2 sticks, and if you need 16 gig, then 2 8 gig sticks.
I like Gskill, but....
As for the speed ? the fastest and lowest timings you can get. A common good speed (not too spendy) is 3200 CAS 14, samsung b-die, like this: https://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820232205

I was actually looking at the exact RAM on Newegg last night, pricey though.
What's the difference between the Trident and Flare X?

Much less than that, and you will loose performance. That is not the highest. The best stuff is over $250. That is the best median memory IMO
