Yes, im expecting a brand new 1700X that has superior clock, equal or higher IPC, 2 extra cores, maybe better SMT to beat a 6800K across the board at gaming, Whats wrong with it? its not half the price and its not a high performance 4C 7700K that may work better at games that does not escale very well.
If it's not good enough buy Intel. Maybe the price will come down at least? That wouldn't be bad. Would it?

FWIW you seem to be in the minority. 12 people liked my post. I'm assuming that's because they agree. But you can still buy Intel.

AMD's marketing team always seems to amaze at just how incompetent they are.

That event was absolutely awful.
Marketing Forum Ryzen was pretty good.with the event in SFO last week.

One.also has to keep in mind that yesterday was a game developers conference and not a consumer one - so everybody that hoped to see Vega specs and comparisons did forget about that.
The probability that behind closed doors game devs saw Vega is very high, just we didn't get to see it

They said that the demos and everything were running and would be available to those at the event.

One of two things will be true with Vega:

1. AMD is seriously sandbagging - and nVidia knows it.
2. Vega 'sucks' and nVidia is trying to rub AMD's nose in it.

I'm leaning towards #1, though I certainly wouldn't discount #2.

3. Both if the above is possible and AMD just plays quite to avoide hype in either direction

IF Amd has a competitive product to the 1080ti then they really missed a trick here, to not show anything at all when they were happy to show comparisons in December is puzzling.

AMD has never said anything to that effect.
http://www.pcworld.com/article/3155...hitecture-is-expected-to-last-four-years.html

O RLY.jpg

When asked how long Zen would last, compared to Intel’s two-year tick-tock cadence, Papermaster confirmed the four-year lifespan and tapped the table in front of him: “We’re not going tick-tock,” he said. “Zen is going to be tock, tock, tock.”

also consider
bulldozer 10-2011
pile drive 10-2012
steamroller 06-2014
carrizo 06-2015

Why would Zen be any different?

Well, I doubt AMD was surprised by nVidia's move - they probably have a pretty good idea as to what nVidia was going to do (with some uncertainty planned in). AMD may have chosen to hide their cards (literally) so their showcased performance or other details weren't made to look bad immediately after they were demonstrated (which is why nVidia chose the same day for their event).

This might explain some of the hum-drum nature of the presentation - they had to change it up rather late in the game.

I wouldn't be surprised if we see some ... leaks ... regarding the demos at the event before 1080ti launches.

Hindsight, this actually makes sense. Their presentation was flat and rather boring. The last similar even had more flare and actual claims "2x RX 480 > GTX 1080 for less."

If they had to change things due to NV's planned ruckus, would explain everything.

we have two data points to compare, vega was shown to be about 10% faster than a 1080 in December time, 1080ti is likely to be 25% faster than that.
Assuming they can squeeze another 10% out of clocks and drivers that puts vega about 15% behind, if they sell it for 550-600 it represents great value considering its more future proof.
It might even come in at a lower tdp.

You would wish but no, this is exactly where you would expect in games, 12 threads vs 16 threads, same base clock , 6800k with higher turbo. What it actually tells you is AMD's memory sub system has gone from being so far behind intels to equal in one gen.

And then there is price, but thats ignored isn't it.
if 1700X can OC on average to the same level as 1800X and both of those are higher then the 1700 then for people like me 1700X is the choice.

Hooray.
Highlights:
1. Memory Latency, holy hell. And that's 3200C16...
2. 99.45% memory read bandwidth efficiency, holy hell. Quad channel version of Ryzen would break hwbot's memory board.
3. ChessBase=Fritz? Because Fritz score aligns with past leaks and it looks pretty mediocre, does not it?

Not in the least - this is REALLY good. We're comparing CPUs with > 500Mhz clock speed differences and not seeing that much of a difference...
These are 1440p Ultra benches on 1080. Most of them are GPU limited, except those that display any disrepancy.

Also note there was also 99th Percentile FPS which made the 1700 score even closer (except GTA5 for some reason).

A GTX1080 is insane overkill for 1080p Ultra.
That's a bit of a blanket statement though, since it depends solely on the game. Say you're a Deus Ex fan and you're playing Mankind Divided a lot. You will probably struggle to keep the min fps above 60. And v-synced 120Hz? Forget it.

Someone can tell my WHY Asrock is in dumb mode? they made some great AM4 boards, in the AB350s they connected the 2nd PCI-E 16x at the PCI-E 4X 3.0 coming from the CPU reserved for the 1st M2 Slot, as a result you need to choose either put a secondary GPU or a PCI-E M2, this could be great for only 1 thing, a cheap Crossfire board, as the 2nd PCI-E is 4x 3.0 and goes directly to the CPU, BUT they dont not support Crossfire!!!!! on neither of the 3 boards! one of them is a Fatality!

Add insult to injury, they added too many PCI-E 1x slots from the chipset, as a result the secondary M2 slot is Sata only, they could have done 2 pci-e 1x and x2 secondary M2...

What a wasted oportunity!

B350 chipset doesn't support multi-GPU. You need X370 for that.
