The 1700 Ryzen is going to be a big seller. People might just get that instead of the 1700X and save money for a better mobo.

Multi year lurker here (think 10)
I'm astounded by the R7 1700, seriously I don't think AMD has made enough hullabaloo about a 65w 8 core chip, that's insane.

Unfortunately overclocking doesn't look great if it's only getting 5.1ghz on LN2, still if the R1700 can lock at 4ghz on air then I can't see a reason to buy a 7700k, chances are in two years time the majority of games will run faster on the ryzen chip.

8 core 1800X beat Intel's 10 core monster at a much lower clockspeed. That doesn't excite you?

I find this hilarious..ofc Amd is happy to finally release something better then bulldozer which was an epic fail to start with...but not even catching up with Haswell on IPC when it is an 4 yrs old technology is not a big achievement...yeah ofc Amd will throw more cores as they always do but in my book is not a big deal..

Is that supposed to be a graph over something? x is time? starting with negative time and at T=0 we have >52% of more.
(yes I know what its saying, that sort of thing just itches)

Info? Also, if 5.14Ghz is all you can push on LN2... i am not surprised, actually, it does clock like first batch Broadwell, after all.

5.14GHz completing cinebench on 8C/16T isn't bad at all, but being a LN run indeed it points to heat/power spike over 4GHz.
1.85v for 5.15GHz... what's daily max voltage on those? 1.4V? Linear scaling would imply just 3.9Ghz on all core, so a lower than the average Broadwell-E, compensated maybe by higher SMT gains. Single core CanardPC did reach 5GHz but pointed to issues too.

I won't expect much beyond 4GHz for the first batches, better wait (for reviews also) if you have a good platform and see if later this year Zen gets better bins or what Intel will do with prices and Skylake-X. Six months aren't killing anyone and competition is valid for both sides... good times ahead, 2017 is shaping to be much better than 2016.

The price difference between the 7 1700 and 7 1700X is $70, but the 7 1700X comes with a better heatsink/fan.

So if you have to spend another $40 for a better heatsink/fan, the 7 1700X might not seem so bad.
