I'm thinking of indulging myself to some fine home cooking, listening to music tonight, and firing up Shadow of Mord-or to pass the time. And then tomorrow, Ryzen 7 reviews will appear all around me while at work, blossoming into little buds of joy & delight for me to feast upon.

Or atleast that's how I imagine it in my head.

how the calculations happened is our guess, only thing i'm seeing is that the perfromance difference is smaller than the perf/W difference.

And i see that their perf/w graph for Handbrake made 0 sense. Try and look at POVRay instead and you will see where am i coming from. Actually, forget Handbrake perf/w altogether, because the numbers are confusing and make no sense. 6800k consuming 40 less watts than 6900k? Not on my watch.

Well, if it is true, then i will lay off my pretense at criticism at once. It won't be true because if it was, then why would AMD bother with having any L3 on their die? Memory is faster anyways!

Not bad news as much as early adoption mess. I would not be surprised if the launch day reviews became outdated before most will get their pre-ordered motherboards, at this point.

So you are saying it is safe to buy a 16gb X2 =32 GB 3200 CL 14 memory kit and it will work on a good board at those speeds and latency, like Asus crosshair hero vi? Or will you have to relax the settings for two 16gb sticks and better off saving money with cas 15 or 16? Or go 3400 or 3600 cas 16 or 18?

other than 3200 C14 14 14 I do not know what he used, but quantity of ram should not affect the outcome, if it is 14-14-14 out the box at that rated speed then ti is a really good kit.

Those buying on Day 1 are likely to be tech savvy enough to make whatever changes/updates they'll need to get the best performance going forward.
Nobody is genuinely expecting it to be perfect on Day 1. That is simply unrealistic.

I already made a post about the review guide changes. Based on the inside info I've heard and what OrangeKrush has been posting, it's not a negative. Very likely reviewers are being told to test with 3200 CL14 memory instead of the provided 3000 kits.

The bad news is that some reviewers will likely get lazy and not rerun the tests. So then we will have to sift through the reviews. And of course the usual suspects will find the worst results that weren't rerun to prove ryzen sucks.

It could be as inf64 said in that post,SMT is causing a drop in game performance,so games need to be tested with it switched off,or there has been some new patch which solves the problem meaning benchmarks need to be redone.

It is. Problem is that many reviewers have already done their tests and new (BETA) bios for , say Crosshair VI, has just been released (some few hours ago).

Meaning you jumped the gun and took it out of context, no one mentioned sending anything back, just annoyance at new updates and retests.

There are daily BIOS updates at this point... reviewers have several different motherboards provided for testing also (the ones I've seen in person are Asus and Gigabyte). I doubt it's just "update your BIOS"... but we'll find out tomorrow.

I'd have hoped that any reviewer worth his salt would be testing with and without SMT enabled in any event. If you want to test something, test it in all possible configurations that may have a practical difference. A lot of hard work, and very time consuming, but if you're going to do something then at least try to do it right.

It looks like AMD is issuing last minute BIOS updates to fix issues relating to memory performance (maybe latency or other issues). I feel for the reviewers having to redo their tests in the last minute. Not the best approach from AMD. AMD should have fixed their firmware issues earlier or maybe pushed their launch date a couple of weeks. The PC community has waited for 5 years for competition, so whats another 2 weeks.
