Let's not forget the i820 + SDRAM debacle!

Since we're there already, why not also mention VIA 4in1 drivers? Or VIA chipsets in general...?

Or nForce3 for that matter. Those boards had temper...

Ryzen has been smooth sailing in comparison. I haven't had a single issue, despite running 24/7 since launch day. That is pretty impressive from a brand-new platform in my book.

btw it can be hard to find a quality PSU below the 650-750W range. If you want something that's rock solid that will perform well and last for years, you're getting a gold-rated 650W or better.

The SeaSonic SSR-360GP is a good quality, gold-rated 360 watt PSU. It's my recommendation for builds that rely on integrated graphics. It would work for Ryzen paired with a low end discrete graphics card such as the GTX 1050 or RX 480.

I've been happy with the FSP AU-400 Aurum Gold 400 watt power supply that I bought in October 2011, but that model has been discontinued. Based on that experience, I'd say that the FSP HGX450 and FSP PT-450M models are worth a look.

Does anyone know how Ryzen will perform in those titles yet (e.g., Total War, Cities Skylines, Civ VI)? I have no need for FPS above 60, and I only run 1080p.

I think krumme is correct as a lot of RTS's are quite limited by the API, but Civ6 is fine:

As is Total War:Warhammer but no CPU hits 60FPS in that:

Has anyone found a way, regardless of mobo, to run 32GB of RAM at 3200? I have a couple questions please:

1) Is it possible to get 32GB of CL14 3200 Mhz 1T RAM running with Ryzen?

2) Looking forward, what is more likely to be faster if/when RAM issues get sorted out - 4X 8GB or 2X 16GB? For now, I would just buy what is most likely to be supported with future BIOS updates. I cannot see Flare-X RAM in stock anywhere (Canada), but they list a 64 GB kit at 4X16 but no 2X16 kit, but that tells me that most likely 2X16 will work at 3200 if 4X16 works at 3200.

Thoughts?

Thanks!

If you can get a 2 x 16GB set, should be simple.

4x8GB should be easier and might be doable already just not 100% sure that it is right now w/o bclk OC.
16GB modules are dual sided and Ryzen doesn't like that so far.
Check what the top mobos support and make sure it's without bclk OC.

More game benchmarks. I am kind of sick of them too, but it's DF.

As usual, something strange is going on with AOTS. The 1800x with the 4GHz OC, which is 300Mhz higher on 8 cores, produced nearly the same results as the stock 1800x.

Why is it that anybody who isn't frothing at the mouth over Ryzen or is asking serious questions about it trolling?

Hotstocks is frothing at the mouth. He's also pasting the same stupid rants on multiple sites, word for word. I saw him doing it on OCN in the Ryzen owner's club thread for crying out loud.

BTW I'm getting the new Windows Insider update 15061 but it keeps failing to install. So I might have to grab an ISO and do it manually, once one becomes available.

hotstock

I'm yet to see ONE post from you that is not flame baiting or just pure trolling. I cannot decide if you are unable to understand new technology or you are just mad at the world so you are venting on this forum. It is a mystery.

PS Wall of text with zero paragraphs makes it even harder to read.

Ive added so many people to ignore since ryzen launched the forums are almost getting bearable again.

New hardware always brings the trolls out in force.

Actually, two sticks of DDR4 even if dual rank will in general be easier to support than four sticks. At least, that's what Raja @ ASUS and Elmor were suggesting in the OCN threads for the C6H. Four would be harder on the IMC if I recall correctly.

I can confirm I was getting up to DDR4-2800 with dual rank DIMMs (2x), for what that's worth. I expect that by May (if not sooner) we will have the necessary BIOS updates to run 2x16GB at 3200+ normally (not with BCLK OC of the 2666 divider like some people are already doing).

"Worst configuration is dual-rank 2x16GB, especially Hynix-based DRAM (4xSR is best at the moment if you need 32GB and high speed)."
Granted that statement likely factors in Bclk OC

Asus for the C6H does lists two 4x8GB kits as supported at 3200 but it might be with bclk
F4-3200C16Q-32GFX and F4-3200C16Q-32GFXR

I stand corrected!

Seems to depend on the motherboard/BIOS version as well, so YMMV until May I suppose.

Doesn't Ryzen's memory controller have problems with 4X RAM sticks though? Even though 8GB are single die, I thought I read they are rated slower when used in the 4X configuration.

I guess my question is are you better off with 2X16GB at a slower Mhz, or 4X8GB, possibly faster frequency, but does the memory controller bog down and negate any gains?

I'll be curious to see what Ryzen is doing comparatively speaking by the next time I'm ready to build. I know that all systems have teething issues and once they get worked out things work much better. I'd really like to see the 1800x running at full speed with memory at 3200 or higher for better throughput which really affects the way it performs.

I'm curious to see, in all these tests that are being done with Ryzen disabling cores, SMT, etc. etc., what affect the same process has on intel processors. There is a lot of focus on what happens on Ryzen, it would be interesting to see if there is any affect on intel processors as well. From what i remember, the performance does indeed drop with HT enabled, and not something that is specific to Ryzen.

Just get this TODAY. If you have a good motherboard, like the Taichi, it should work just fine.

They already DO run that way. I am at 2933 cl14, and there are at least 2 others here running 3200 cl14 on an 1800x@4 ghx
