Ok, the guys were all around weak tonight although I missed Big Mike's performance. The only one I liked was Alex Lambert and Tim Urban (that's right, I said Tim Urban).
I think that 16 year old kid is one of the ones going home. Casey James is overrated in my book. Andrew Garcia is stuck because every performance is going to be judged against his Straight Up.
yeah, we thought Alex Lambert was the best overall. I don't really get the praise that a few of them got--Mike's...I could see the energy, but it was very flat overall. It got much better near the end. I forget right now, but there was another similar performance, very flat, nasally, just empty--oh yeah, the little archuletta kid. Hope he's gone. so boring and inexperienced. He just has that "I will never understand the lyrics to any song that I sing" vibe, not until grows a little, moves out of the burbs, maybe.
I thought Casey was pretty solid. Not exactly my thing, but it was obvious that some of the judges are confusing him: Randy wants him to be "Stevie Ray Vaughn," when he's clearly more of a soft, country, sort of guy. he looked comfortable tonight, and I think the judges are playing off of what they want him to be, rather than what he's actually good at.
Andrew...it seems his problem is that he's unwilling to play the tunes that he's always been comfortable with. Last night, he was trying to imitate Straight Up, wihtout really understanding why that performance was so great. With Straight Up, you could just tell that was one of the earliest songs that he taught himself, while strumming along on his guitar, just doing new things. It had funk, soul, and real confident structure. he killed it, because he knew it in and out. he picked up this Aguillera song only a week ago, and it came out very flat. imitating that style, but there was no confidence in his playing or his vocals. He needs to stick to those tunes that he first found when he started learning music. He probably has a lot more in there, but as with most of the contestants, I think he needs to stop listening to the judges and stick to his happy songs.
