people seem to want to day trade, but the rules are inherent to the game. they are not an adminstrator setting

They are free to day trade as long as they follow the rules.
Buy/hold FTW.

The portfolio rules are kinda annoying... you need to have more than half of your money in small positions under 10%, and no more than 25% in a single position. Needless to say, the older ATOT stock game strategies of investing all of your money in one or two high risk stocks and hoping that they skyrocket isn't going to work here.

Even on the previous VSE games, there is zero evidence that such strategy worked.
At best they only worked for a few months and gave those who followed that strategy an imaginary lead.

I didn't follow that, and yet I still managed to place 3rd in 2007, and 6th in 2008.
That strategy doesn't work in real life. It didn't work in the fictional VSE games either.

People are forgetting something important here.
Your portfolio only needs to be 65% in equities.
What does that mean?
Make your 2 favorite stocks 24.999% of your portfolio each, 35% in cash, and put the remaining 15% in a bond index. Your portfolio *should* still be compliant.

Time to update this thread and brag while I can. January was a tough month. Dow and the S&P500 had the worst January ever with the Dow down 8.84% and the S&P500 down 8.57%. Not surprisingly almost every fund in the competition is down from par value. Only my Kayak (KYK) and ffmcobalt (ZRF) fund finished positive for the month. Some people have already suffered some ugly losses and it's going to be uphill battle for them the rest of the year.

It's my first time playing in one of these simulation games, and I've to say I'm pretty impressed with the marketocracy setup. It feels very similar to running real money.

What the heck is up with the stock trading?

I've been trying to buy shares in News Corporation (NWSA) for the past 3 weeks 4 different times. It never filled the orders.

Are you placing limit or market order? I hadn't had any problem yet with trading.

It's probably a good thing you didn't get your fill. You can buy it cheaper now.

You now want to join after the market has crashed 10%?
We should make you start with $900,000 to be fair.

Why do you want to have 2 different funds?
One fund per ATOT account please.

What a difference a week can make. Rising tide lifts all boats. Two more funds, Xanis (XNS) and Cheesy321 (ASL?) broke the par barrier and are now positive for the year. Couple other funds are very close to par and other funds that were heavily down have recovered nicely. It's time like this that you get performance anxiety from under invested and lagging funds. This is why rallies last longer than it should as funds deploy capital to play catchup. It's also why you normally see end of the year Santa Claus rallies. Opportunity cost have two sides.

Really? I wasn't aware of that.
That seems nuts...you can do OTC's but not ADR's?

As to your question, AFAIK...No you cannot.

Fail. :|
You are shorting stocks and everyone else is going long.

Just make sure when the economy recovers and your short fund tanks, you don't bring your "other" fund in or create a new fund/account.
