my MB is pcb2.0, 1.003, and my cpu is amd 2100+ B core, but I cannot overclock the fsb above 166, need I return the cpu or MB or both?

One note. I looked at the asus usb 2.0 drivers and they are dated from april 2002. Would I be correct to assume that sp1 and sp1a have newer usb 2.0 drivers and that I don't need to install this asus update?

If you installed sp1 I don't think so. I believe sp1 rolls the USB2 drivers in.

Anyone else confirm this. I don't see anything in my device manager that says usb 2.0, but then again it never said usb 1.0 either, just usb. Anyone else..

they have been shipping 2.0s for at least 2 weeks - tell them to ship a box with a serial # that starts at least at 34Z - that way they can't claim they can't tell...

Quick Questions:
I just got my Asus A7N8X Deluxe a few days back. Everything is running Great. I was just wondering. My Board is a Rev 2.0. But the box says only 333MHZ. What about 400??? Does that update with the Bios Update? Please PM me or let me know in the thread.

over on the nforcershq site someone asked a similar question and i guess it must make a difference bcos when they installed the asus drivers the usb controller now says "nvidia enhanced" in the drivers page in device manager...apparantly!

In my control panel under Universal serial bus controllers is an entry that says: Standard Enhanced PCI to USB host controller
This is without the USB 2 patch from ASUS site. I have Win XP SP1a installed.

guys [and ladies] i would be grateful for your insight on the a7n8xdel/sound issues.
i get the impression that this is a widespread problem - i am going to build my machine for the 1st time this weekend but want to know am i resigned to definately having these sound problems or is it by [bad] luck?
also, a few possible fixes were listed on the nforcershq site which range from the painless:
changing the power config from uniporcessor to advanced acpi...to the not so painless:
disabling APIC which involves an OS reinstall and disables 11/2 the irq channels.

Could anyone give me an insight into any ramifications of changing from uniprocessor to advanced?
Similarly - what is APIC and what do i lose by disabling it from the word go? Will i miss losing 1/2 the irq channels?

anything which helps ease my fears is appreciated

I just got my a7n8x deluxe today from newegg. The problem is I can't get the board to even post. There are power, but now beep or video when I push the power button. I currently only have 1600+, crucial 2100 512mb, enermax 420w power supply. I'm not sure what I'm doing wrong or I just got a dead board. I'm geting new ram and new cpu soon, but I want to get it to work with the current parts I have now. Anything I can do?

Once and for all, whats the best working ram for this board? Ive still been having random bsod and reboots. Im thinking its this pos Kingston ValueRam that I have because I've heard others with the same ram are having the same problem.

Short of switching the location of the RAM on the motherboard, is there a way to check and be sure it's running in dual channel mode? Reason I'm asking is I'm using 2 different brands of memory. (I know I already asked this, but I didn't get an answer I was looking for)

I'm using one stick of Crucial PC2700 and my board is running fine. I've heard good things about the Corsair Ram. I think Chiz is running two sticks of it and its working great for him. If you have the $ then go with the two sticks of Corsair.

Final Words: It's without a doubt the A7N8X (Rev.2) is a great product. It's near perfect. I can't fault it. If you're planning to get a N-Force2 motherboard, I can recommend it ... it's THE N-Force2 motherboard to go for.

To answer my own earlier question:

You don't have to install the USB 2.0 patch from asus if you already have XP SP1 installed.




I also wanted to mention that I used the ASUS UPDATE program to flash my bios to the newest 1004's and it was painless. I disabled norton antivirus and zone alarm first.

or Samsung KingMax 512MB PC-2700 DDR333 SDRAM...

i'd rather get the kingmax because the place is closer to me.. samsung is the same price but a farther place.
