The only reason I was going to disable APIC is because I've read somewhere within this thread people where having problems with it. has the problem gone away, I think the problem was something to do with video.

Again, thank you

I was having problems with memory errors and such running Windows 2000 after receiving my Asus MB

I reinstalled everything in the order posted above and the system is now running error free. Good advice. Thanks.

Oh yeah, one question. Does a deluxe board automatically unlock my 2100+ tbred b?
I heard that the early boards with early bioses don't. Does my rev2.0?

It certainly should, yes. Refer to page 55 of the manual and see the stuff that defaults to "Optimal" or "Auto?" Set them all to "User Define" or "Aggressive", etc, so that it gives you control over the detailed settings.

Opinions. I'm looking into getting this board. I currently have a Soyo Dragon+ with an XP1800 in it. Unfortunately, the board will only support a CPU upgrade to 2100, and a pally at that. I thought of getting the 2100 pally before they are all gone, but at $80, it almost seems to make more sense to get the Asus board for $135 (and give me a lot more room to grow). Just wondering if I would see much of a performance boost for just changing to this board and the dual channel memory (as it is, going from an 1800 to a 2100 pally wouldn't be much of a boost either). Thanks. -njrich2

hi, I've recently purchase the A7N8X PCB 2.0 Deluxe from newegg,

While setting up the system , I came upon this RAID feature which I have failed to disable,

according to the manual, a menu is suppose to pop up once you hit Ctrl+S or F4
but mine is just a black screen
the only thing that appears is some figures when I move the arrow keys,

can anyone help me with this RAID utility?

The performance improvement of the mobo alone isn't very noticable in my opinion, and I've made similar transitions twice (once from my nForce classic to my 8RDA+, and then from my K7S5A to my A7N8X-Deluxe). The features may be enough to sweeten the deal until you can pick up a faster CPU, but don't expect devastating performance increases with an 1800+ in there. Even my WinZip/UT compression benchie didn't improve significantly (I have a 1700+ in my system).

Also, the nForce2 seemed to pull away from other chipsets more when it was equipped with a 333MHz-based CPU.

Do you have drives hooked up to the RAID controller? If not, that *could* be the issue.

i've got a question. dunno who can help

i got klipsch 4.1 plugged into this sucker. the connections in back are correct.
however i'm continually getting this hallow echo like sound. i've tried all the combos in nforce control panel, but it only gets worse in sound quality.
any one know?

Try Asus' nvswap utility from here. I haven't used it myself, but I think it will fix that problem. Good luck and let us know how it goes, scorched03!

Sure thing Was it the nvswap that fixed it, or was it a setting in the nForce control panel, or what?

Try holding down the Insert key while the system powers on and tries to POST. If that doesn't help, you might try changing the CPU_FSB jumper by the northbridge to pins 2 & 3 (it's shown on page 21 of the manual). That would underclock the FSB to 100MHz (DDR200) and might or might not help.

When you cleared the CMOS, did you have the system unplugged (yes = good)?

i changed the jumpers to 200 (100) fsb, tried insert key, but still no beep. Yeah i unplugged the cord before removing battery. The battery was pretty hot when i pulled it out, could it be an issue with the battery?

ok its not the battery, its not the ps, its not ram...damnit is it possible that i fried something? i didn't increase any voltages or anything, just raised the fsb to 166 and lowered multiplier to 12.5.....=(

It sounds like the BIOS may have gotten corrupted. If that's a Deluxe board, then you might plug some headphones or powered speakers into the green audio-out jack and see if the on-board POST Reporter is giving out any messages.

hmm, i swapped the CPU and didn't work...the CPU is still good, so i am pretty sure its the motherboard....it seems like the problem is the CMOS wont clear. Is there any way to clear CMOS besides the battery on this board?

I got mine about 6 days ago.
I turned on the power after getting everything just right and it died before post.
I checked all my cables and tried again, same thing happened.
I then took out all cards except video disconnected all drives ,checked all my cables and tried again. This time it wouldn't even try to turn on.
I then took out the memory and video card and tried. It wouldn't turn on.
I have the revision 2 board.I am getting a replacement sent.I really am wondering if I get one that does work is it going to go out on me when I really need it(the time most stuff fails).
The green LED is the only thing that works.
