This mb is super picky with memory. The crucial 512MB pc2700 doesn't work, I don't know about the pc2100. Do you have some other memory to try in it?

Yeah i have a stick of 256meg ddr 2100 (also Crucial), im pretty much at a loss, ive tried changing everything over on both my
pc's to see if their is a fault with a component but they all seem to be fine. If it is a problem with the crucial memory which do you
suggest getting (although it would be a last resort as i just bout the 512meg stick?)

First, I would suggest checking the compatibility lists at the Asus and Crucial sites for both of the sticks you have tried. If you need to get memory, just get something that's on the Asus list or the list of the memory manufacturer. If you are not overclocking and want pc2700, then the Samsung Original 256MB pc2700 is good. Get two of them for dual channel. I used to have this in my A7N8X.

Question about BIOS update. I updated my BIOS to C1004 assuming that my board revision is not 2.0 since I bought my refurbished.

When you update the BIOS, does it recognize the BIOS version I'm trying to update and makes sure that it is for under revision 2.0?

I think it is possible to flash to the wrong bios. Check your rev. to make sure before flashing.

bios issue: check the board between the last few pci slots. it says asus a7n8x in big writing on the board, but if it is revision 2.00 it will show it in small letters in the upper right corner.

Speaking of dual channel, I have the A7N8X Deluxe 2.0, and just upgraded my PC3200 to something that would actually get cas2 and overclock well. Well, the only memory at PC3200 speeds available at any of the local computer retailers in my area is the Kingston HyperX, and some people have had issues with this ram. I didn't know this until after I bought mine. Here's what happened:

I bought one 512mb stick because that was the only one that Best Buy had advertised as on sale, and since they hadn't even carried PC3200 previously, I assumed they didn't carry the 256 modules. Anyhow, I get it home and put it in, system crashes after ten minutes. DAMN!!! Just my luck. I tried all three dimm slots, and finally found that dimm3 worked great. But now I wanted to get another one and see if I couldn't get dual-channel working. I went back to Best Buy and asked if they happened to also carry the 256mb modules. They did, so I took two home and tried them out. It was the same situation as with the 512, and dual-channel wouln't work no matter what I did. The only configuration that did work with both dimms was the only two slots that when together don't support dual-channel. WTF!!

So I went back to Best Buy.......AGAIN.........and this time purchased two 512 sticks, but not before I made myself look like a total thief. I went in there with empty boxes, not realizing that I had forgotten to put the ram back in the boxes, so the guy checks and says, where the hell is the memory? I was like, Oh, man, i'm REALLY not trying to put one over on you. He said "hahaha, don't worry about it. Well, after that I got my two 512 sticks home, and again, the first combination I tried crashed, but then I tried the other configuration, and to my amazement, it works fine.

Well, that is really all I have to say. Just wanted to get that off of my chest. I'm so relieved, because it would really suck if they didn't work, because I don't have a credit card, and most places don't use bank accounts online. I guess I could have used a friend or relative's cc, but ahh.

Thanks for coming, pay me on your way out the door. :?

i got a serious problem here,
I was playing a game on my system with XP2100 OC to 2.3 Ghz, 200 X 11.5
and then I had some fatal error in it,

on order to debug the problem,
I did a downclock of my System, and let it run at the stock speed of 1.7 Ghz , 133 X 13
and then when I restarted, the bioz had no beep

btw, my board is the A7N8X Deluxe PCB 2.0 flashed it to the Rev 1005 bios

at current status, my PC can only run at 100 X 13 to give 1.3 Ghz, if I try to enter the bios setup to modify anything, or for a matter of fact just to enter the setup and exit, or every time I restart my PC, there won't be a POST, and I have to reset the CMOS again in order to get it running,

any help I can get?

Just bought the Deluxe version of this board. Can anyone help by instructing me on what the final driver fix was to get the onboard NIC working? I cannot get it to work (work meaning get on the internet even though the LAN lights are on and the system recognized the LAN as being plugged in)?

I went to the 3Com website but do not know what drivers to download....

Lastly, given my system with the XP3000+ CPU, what should my BIOs settings be for aggressive OC'ing? Thanks!

I had exactly the same when i OC'd my system, the i had to UC it to stock and it wont boot. Would only boot at 100mhzx12.5
You need to reflash BIOS. Id advise the ASUS Live update (download the BIOS first). It solves the problem, but mind you, you prolly wont be able to get to those values again (at least i wasnt )

I have not had a problem with the 3COM network card working on my mobo. This is the driver I downloaded and like I said, everything is fine. 3com_90xv54 It's a zip folder. Hope this helps. Peace!

no prob!
can u still overclock to those values? I cant Only to 175 mhz (which is pretty kick ass, and im surprised how 9mhz difference was able to boost the perform, ance so well)

I have something very strange going on and was wondering if anyone else had this problem. I have an A7N8X Deluxe 2.0, my vid card is Albatron GeforceFX 5600.

I can't seem to install any driver for the GeForce other than the latest 44.03. I can't even get the ones that came on the CD to install. It goes through the installation process and says reboot but then the drivers are not there afterwards.

These are the ones I've tried:

43.45

43.43

42.30*

*42.30 are even listed as WHQL certified but none seem to install. Even when I go to add/remove programs, the Albatron provided drivers don't show up after re-boot.

I have SP1 installed for the OS and all the motherboard drivers from the Asus CD. I also have the 1005 bios flashed.

But the new ones work, right? Thats the point of making new drivers, and thats the price we pa for hving latest hardware.

So, you're saying that it's normal not to be able to install any video drivers with tht A7N8X Deluxe 2.0 except the very latest Detonator release? Not even the WHQL certified ones that came on the CD shipped with the video card?

I have a really annoying problem that should be easy to fix, but I can't figure out how. I just built this rig:

A7N8X Deluxe
AMD XP 2800+
1 GB Crucial PC3200 RAM
ATI Radeon 9600 Pro
Maxtor ATA/133 80 GB HDD

Everything loaded fine, or so it seemed, until I got into Windows and discovered that I only had 16 colors available, at 640 x 480 res. Anyway, I read in the Radeon manual that for these new AGP cards, the proper GART drivers have to be installed BEFORE the video card, or it may not br recognized. Sure enough, I only have the PCI Standard Graphics and the PCI Standard Graphics (VGA) controllers available. How am I supposed to have the drivers installed before the video card on a brand new system? I can't start the system at all without the video card!

Does anyone know a way around this, or know how to install the GART drivers AFTER the video card, and make it work? As far as Windows ME is concerned, I don't even have an AGP card.

The oddest thing is, I built an exactly identical system, except with a 9700 PRO, and it recognized it just fine.
