Also, anyone that has had to RMA a board to Asus know how long it took them to send it back?

EDIT: Cheapherk (sp) you can only run a software RAID on the IDE channels which means big CPU utilization on disk access, you'd be better off with a RAID card or SATA adapters IMHO.

The bios corruption happens now and then. I don't think its real common. I RMA'd my board. Asus says they will send the board back in 5-10 working days after they receive it. I got the RMA # by email very quickly. And I was able to phone them to check if they received my board without waiting on hold. For some reason their website RMA tracking didn't know about my RMA.

My board dying was a blessing in disguise. I love this NF7-S rev. 2. It overclocks better, is just as stable and there's no static or faint beeping in the sound. I'm going to sell my Asus when I get it back.

I was having the same issue with their website being crap (the one thing about Asus that blows). I can't go another week with this KT266a crap running this gem of a CPU! I want my nForce!!! :|

BAAAH!!! Hahaha animal noises Okay, I just had bios corruption like pelikan and I might sell mine and get a NF7-S just like pelikan. This is all a maybe though. I just need to find myself either an RMA number or a BIOS chip then I'll be set for a NF7-S or my motherboard working again!

I just got my A7N8X back from Asus RMA this morning. It took about ten days from when I sent it out till I got it back. I live within 1-2 days shipping time from them.

Thanks guys, I hope I get it sometime this week. I'm really surprised how this old Epox overclocks (KT266a @ 147 FSB) but it can't get my 2500 over 1.84 (12.5x147).

Pelikan, what Rev did you get back?

I sent in a 1.04 and got a 1.04 back. It was a different board than I sent in and looks brand new.

Eh, oh well. I was hoping for a 2.0 back, no biggie... should run 200 FSB either way. I'd only be going up to 12.5x200 at the max probably.

I have a Rev 1.04 board that I hoped would go up to 200MHz FSB, but I can't get it stable above 190. Do you guys think it would be worth it to actively cool the northbridge or do I just have to live with the fact that my board won't do 200Mhz?

BTW, I'm running a 2500+ and 1gig of Kingston HyperX PC3500. Thanks.

all you guys who report bios corruption, how did you diagnose it?
i ask becuase i was getting major problems trying to get my rev 2 bios 1004 board to run at 200Mhz FSB. i also found that whenever i tried to make a change in the bios it would hang - this used to be sometimes but today it happened everytime no matter what i did and what fsb i set it too. for some odd reason it would exit and fire up at 200*7.5 but zilch else [i have a freakin 2100+]

so i just updated the bios to 1005 and radomly made some changes to the bios to come in and out of it and it has been okay so far...havent got the energy nw to go back to my fsb puzzle: tomorrow!

Tikerz, it's basically the luck of the draw. My 2600 could barely do 200 on my board.

Wigwam, right before my board became unresponsive I changed the FSB setting in the BIOS and POOF! so I'm 99% sure it's the BIOS getting corrupted, because I cleared CMOS and everything (if you want I can post my problem report to ASUS)

Cooling probably won't do it for you, unfortunately. The VDD mod (increasing voltage to the chipset) is the only way. It involves soldering to a very very very small resistor. I mean the spot on the resistor you have to solder to is about the size of the ball on a ball point pen.

yes please that would be very helpful. i think you can gather from the other posts on this problem that you replied to that i have been having a rather torrid time with this problem!

so did your board just never post again after it went "poof" or did you get some error message? i found that i have to switch the psu power off and then back on to be able to even get it to reboot [and of course it had reset itself to default by doing that]

It wouldn't post at all, which is why I had to send it back.

Problem Report:
I have an A7N8X Deluxe with an Athlon XP 2600+. Earlier this morning I rebooted and got a blank screen. So I shut off the computer and started it up again and still nothing. I swapped out every compnent to a different motherboard and they worked. I took the board out of the case and tried to start it up on a wood table, and nothing. I've tried clearing the CMOS, unplugging for two hours, taking out the battery, and nothing works. My system specs are below

A7N8X Deluxe, Athlon XP 2600+ (333 FSB), 2x256 MB Samsung DDR400, 80 GB Maxtor DiamondMax Plus 9 2MB, LiteOn 52x24x52 CD-RW, Lite-On 16/48x DVD-ROM, Visiontek GeForce4 Ti 4600, 420W PSU, ATI TV-Wonder VE. Also, the MCP-T Southbridge chip gets extremely hot, especialy now with this problem.

Was wondering about the settings in the advanced tab of the nvidia network adapter properties page. There is an "optimize for" property with 2 values, "CPU" and "Throughput." I have mine set to throughput, is this the best setting?

If you want the network tuned for full speed, put it on thoroughput, if you want to balance speed and CPU usage choose CPU.

I might have my board back this week!!! Going to try to trade for an Epox or Abit if possible.
