I installed this board yesterday and have run into trouble with the USB ports -- they don't work. The device manager says that they're good to go, but when I plug stuff into them (i.e. IntelliMouse), the system does not pick them up. I've updated the BIOS and checked to make sure that the USB ports are enabled, and I'm still having this problem. I should also mention that I installed the extra 2 USB and ports that came with the board. Interestingly, the game port works fine, but the USB ports do not. I skimmed through the first 8 or 9 pages of this thread and found nothing that helped. If anyone could help me out I'd appreciate it.

edit: Also, I have Service Pack 1 installed.

Thanks.

Gosnell- Not sure, but mine booted fine with windows sp1, but i didn't have to install any drivers for the usb to work, it worked outta the box

Need some help with my motherboard though. I don tknow why but my whole system feels a lot hotter than normal. Like the heatsink is noticably warm when i touch it and so is the agp card. not sure what the problem is, but even if i dont overclock the system, i still get the same results.. has anyone expereinced this in thier system so far? I might have a overheated refurb from newegg and not even know it!

I just bought a A7N8X Deluxe Rev. 2, but it does not let me set the CPU Vcore higher than 1.50v. The BIOS has been flashed to 1007. The CPU is a Barton 2500+, and the psu is an Antec 350 watt TrueBlue. According to the manual and from what I've been seeing in the forums, the board should allow a max CPU vcore of somewhere around 1.80v. Why is mine being limited? At 1.50v I can run stable at 200 x 10. When I set it to 200 x 11, the mobo recognizes the CPU as an Athlon XP 3200+, but it freezes at the Windows XP splash screen so I'm thinking 1.50v is too low. Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Yes, it is. Could it be the new BIOS? From everything I've read, 1007 doesn't seem to be the best for overclocking...

You have to set everything to "user define" or "expert." I forget which exactly it is since I don't have the A7N8X anymore. You have vcore options up to 1.85V. If you have it all set correctly you will have FSB options in 1MHz increments (instead of just 133/166/200), vcore adjustments and Cas settings.

That's the problem... CPU Vcore is set as user defined, yet the highest Vcore setting is still only 1.50v... Has anyone run across this problem before??

I've been running a A7N8X witha XP2100 overclocked to XP2700 speed ( I believe).

Anyway, would it be better to upgrade to a higher AMD cpu or to go to the next gen technology - i.e. nForce3 and AMD64? I am not too familiar with the latest out there.

Suggestions?

everything that can be set to "menu" or "user defined" is set as such... i've cleared cmos to see if i had inadvertently disabled the higher settings, but that still didn't help... i'm gonna try and flash the board with one of those uber bios floating around and see if that helps... if not, then the board is RMA'd... out of ideas...

I've never heard of that problem. I hope you can find an answer or that an RMA takes care of it.

i think at the current price of the A64, its best that you stick to your current system for now.
Even motherboard Chipsets are limited to Via thus far.

Let it mature further.

Ok...I have this main board with a 2800+ and kingston hyper x pc4000( two 256 pack), radeon 9600XT and it says it fails the memory boot when I put it on the aggressive setting in the bios.

Any ideas why this happens?

I got my little brother a new pc last night to build. Specs are

Asus A7N8X-VM Motherboard
athlon 2600 XP
512 Meg stick of DDR ram
40 gig WD hard drive
SBlaster audigy2
Picking up a 9800 Pro today or tommorow depending if i can get this thing going. heres the problem i hooked everything up hard drive, cd rom, floppy and sound card. I turn it on everythings fine. So i get my XP installation CD and fire it up. It converts it to NFTS then i proceed to copy installation files. Well at about 15% i get this error http://www.hostedimage.com/usr/687/winxp1.jpg

Now i press enter and it works, then another one comes up but theyre all different files. They eventually all do it and i have to cancel installation or it just freezes. Other times i get these errors http://www.hostedimage.com/usr/687/winxp2.jpg Now i dunno what to go by from that. Memory management? i cant find anything in my BIOS to change that would help it. I also got this error one time http://www.hostedimage.com/usr/687/winxp3.jpg

After screwing with this till 2 am i decided to just try n put good ol Win98 on it. Well after reformatting takin NFTS off i put hte boot disk and 98CD in and start installation. As soon as it starts i get the 2 same errors right after eachother every time The 1st one is http://www.hostedimage.com/usr/687/win981.jpg 2nd one is http://www.hostedimage.com/usr/687/win982.jpg I cant think of anymore stuff to try. I got the newest bios for my mobo and still does the same thing. Can anyone help me or give me some more things to try? This is my brothers Bday/Xmas present and hes dyin to get online so we can both play diablo2 and CS together lol. Besides i wanna see what this rig can do. Ive read the sticky and tried as much as i could also, if anyone can help me my brother and i would really appreciate it thanks.

annimossity99,I would run Memtest86
from here (instructions in the readme file ),normally when Windows can`t install it usually is ram related, this program will test your ram.

Btw welcome to AT.

Hello Smurph98; Have you checked the SATA_EN1 strap. page 19 of the user guide. If it's not on the pins correctly.....you get no SATA ! pins 1&2 enable SATA pins 2&3 disable SATA and no pins strapped also no SATA.

Hi all,
I am going to buy a A7N8X Deluxe from NewEgg and want to get the Rev. 2.
So how do I know what I will be getting? Is there something in the spec I can look for?

Almost all new A7N8X-Deluxe boards will be the Rev. 2 and it has been for the past few months.

A Poll, What nForce Drivers are you using

-Original 1.16 from Asus

or

-The New 3.13 from NIVIDA

And what has been your experiences with them
