Hi Guys,

I have an Asus A7n8x-e Deluxe and I am having trouble finding certain parts of the bios.

For memory timing, for instance, in terms of the advanced settings, all I can find is the CAS Latency, RAS to CAS delay, RAS Precharge and the Tras.

I know on my other motherboards I had other options, like Bank Interleave and stuff like that.

Also, I cannot find any of the PCI settings, like the PCI Bus Mastering, Delay Transaction and stuff like that.

Any idea where to find these?

Also, I see that it is possible to disable the nvidia LAN and the AC97 sound in the bios. However, I am unable to find where to disable the nVidia soundstorm sound and it seems as though I can only disable the gigabit ethernet via a jumper on the motherboard?

Thanks so much!

The last time something like this happened, removing the BIOS chip and battery overnight fixed it, but not this time. All parts have been tested in my NF7-S as working. Does it sound like Asus RMA hell time?

Sounds like maybe. I RMA'd one of my rev 1.04 boards last week, I had a failed bios flash and after hot flashing it with my other board(same revision) it wouldn't boot properly and any attempt to change CPU or memory settings would corrupt the BIOS, requiring a reflash. I also couldn't flash the BIOS except with a copy of the existing BIOS, but the chip would flash fine in my other board. ASUS did give me an RMA number quickly, and they've had the board for a little over a week in Fresno so I should be hearing from them soon.

Got my RMA board yesterday(different board) still a rev 1.04. Fired right up with my XP1600+ at stock settings. Everything looks OK so far.

Must have fubured my wiretrick, can't change my multipliers..Doh. This 1600+ won't stay in it long though, so I'll just overclock the FSB for now.

My personal first choice would be the Abit NF7-S, but I'm hearing good things about the DFI Infinity board.

Hi, this may seam a little off topic, but I think this is one place I should ask this.

How to tweek the system to improve game play? What do you suggest?

Just got UT2004 last night, and unlike all of my old games, I'm having a strange lag effect when in game play, not all the time it depends on how much is happening in play. What is strange is I'm playing it in single player mode, (not online). but yet I'm having the same effect at times as if I was online with a dialup connection. Graphics look good I see no problems with frame rate, no lockups or freezes. Sound is a little off. character control feels loose.

Here is my specs and there suggested specs.

System Spec:

Antec 430WATT TruePower
Asus A7N8X Deluxe, rev.2.00, BIOS 1007, nForce2 drivers 3.13, FSB set at 333mhZ. (just flashed BIOS from 1003 to 1007)
Athlon XP 2500+ Barton 333FSB @ 1829MHz (not overclocked)
3-Corsair XMS PC2700 DDR 333MHz CAS2 CMX256A-2700C2 C2 256MB, (768MB total), Dual Channel, (BIOS set at AUTO)
ATI RADEON 9700 PRO 128MB, AGP 8X, CATALYST 4.3 Driver (not overclocked)
Intergrated Sound, Soundstorm
WD 120GB 7200 8MB (Boot Drive) Master

Try turning off some of the graphical effects and keeping the resolution an 1024x768 and see if that helps. Also, are you using AA\AF?

I would suggest:
overclocking
making sure you have no adware/spyware
optimizing your operating system
making sure no programs are running in the background while gaming

Thank you,

Now I'm really afraid of how DOOM3, and HL2 are going to play, I had no idea I was going to have a problem with UT2004.

Hi, I've seen posts here about setting ran in the BIOS (2-2-2-2-1), I'm not sure what it means or how to do it. It's time I do,
any suggestions.

What I got:

Asus A7N8X Deluxe, rev.2.00, BIOS 1007, nForce2 drivers 3.13, FSB set at 333MHz. (just flashed BIOS from 1003 to 1007)
Athlon XP 2500+ Barton 333FSB @ 1829MHz (set at 166 in BIOS) (not overclocked)
3 Sticks of-Corsair XMS PC2700 DDR 333MHz CAS2 CMX256A-2700C2 C2 256MB, (768MB total), Dual Channel, (BIOS set AUTO)

Any info missing?

What would be a good place to start in pushing this.

Major BOOT problem

Configuration:
An8x deluxe v.1.xx w/Latest BIOS
2x256MB generic PC3200
Athlon XP 2400+ (not overclocked)
Antec Case and 350W power supply.

A friend has had this board for a year or so. Yesterday it quit booting into WinXP Pro. He can't even boot into Safe Mode. He also can't boot from CDROM using a bootable CD, like the WinXP CD! No error message or POST beep is given. He also tried using the (6) XP floppy bootdisks. After loading the 6th disk, his computer just locks up.

So what can be causing this issue? It has been working fine the past year, and he hasn't added anything to the system! XP starts booting in Safe Mode, but just locks up. Also why doesn't bootable CD's work?

Does the BIOS recognize the drives? Mine was really picky about IDE cables for some crazy reason.

Umm...yes they recognize the drives. They are listed in bios setup. They have been recognized for 1+ year! Nothing has changed in configuration except for adding a fan. And that fan is hooked up to the power supply. I've read on several other boards that people have had similar problems with this board. No bios updates since last year are available. It looks like the board isn't supported anymore by ASUS. So many people have problems with this board. It looks like ASUS quality is slipping.

Power supply is not enough.

Allied Power Supplies work great on this board

I got a slight prob... my sytem specs:
Asus A7N8X-E Deluxe
Athlon Xp 2500+ @2700+
1x 512MB Kingston Value RAM
400 watt dual fan Allied PSU
4 80mm case fans (3000RPM)
Stock AMD cooler with thermal grease

Despite all my research i cant figure this out. When i OC my board (changing multiplier) i can get it up to 2800+. At 2800 it is extremely unstable and i couldn't even install Windows with it. Do i just have one of the rare horrible OCers or is it something else. Then when i try to go to 3000+ or above by changing my multiplier to 13.0 and above i nolonger have Athlon XP. It boots up as a 800 and some odd mhz athlon. No xp rating. Should i raise voltage up another notch. (currently at 1.675). Or to OC to this CPU do i need DDR 400 memory as the FSB of those chips are 400 not 333.
Thanks

Sounds like you have old rev of BIOS. Should be running v1007

The power supply is enough, assuming its an antec that came with the case, or other good brand..

Do you know how to set up your bios for overclocking? Also a better heatsink will make a huge difference.

Just got a A7N8X-D it doesn't use the newer ATX 4-Pin Power which is kind of scary. I've laid everything out and it turns on for 5 seconds and shuts off. Anyone have any ideas as to whats wrong? I've tried several sticks of ram, double checked the jumpers and the board itself. Using a Antec 350 Trueblue.... Anyone have any ideas to whats wrong? Could it be the proc or thermal diode?

Power Supply not beefy enough 5 Volt rail.

I've seen this many times already with this board.

Drop a XP1600 in it and watch it boot and run fine. That CPU only uses around 20 Watts, very little on the 5 volt rail.

I've demonstated this many times to guys that couldn't get their Bartons to fire in this board.

Had one where I was able to get in Bios long enough to underclock the Barton as low is it would go and the system booted and ran fine. Sandra reported only 80 watt CPU draw, as soon as tried to crank the speed back up the system would die not long after boot up and most times would not boot windows.

Dropped in a new Power Supply with a less wattage rating but very good 5 volt rail (on box it was called "enhanced 5 volt") and the system was good to go at full throttle from then on. Sandra then reports 162 watts CPU draw.

To put it into perspective, try and imagine running a 160 Watt Light bulb with 4 AAA 1.2 Volt Batteries. Ain't going to happen. A better power supply is still 4 1.2 Volt Batteries but the equavalent of D Batteries instead.

The Antec True series of power supplies are very good. He does not have a power supply problem.

I should be getting my A7N8X Deluxe from RMA which was a rev 1004 today and was wondering if I would get a rev 2? If so how would I find out?

Yes i do know how to set up my bios for OCing. Just set everything to userdefined and adjust. I am running 1010 BIOS revision. I do not think heat is a problem because my case temp is 19C and my CPU 49C. CPU is a bit high but still why when i move up to the next multiplier does it underclock to 800 and some odd mhz. Any suggestions. (dunno if i had mentioned this before but i am running a Foxconn Allied 400Watt dual ball bearing fan PSU)
Thanks
