A7N8X - XP2700+ reporting as 1500+
I've just flashed the bios (1007) on my A7N8X (revision 1.04 - non-deluxe) and my XP2700+ keeps reporting as a 1500+. FSB is 166 and stepping is 13. Any help appreciated.

Not on my part, due to some confusing things on Asus' website, I downloaded and tried to load the C1007 bios by mistake. It flashed a big old warning and made it known that something was wrong. So I know for sure I got the right one.

The FSB was stuck at 100 as reported in Windows, even though the BIOS was showing 166. Flashing to 1008 (which has an older date than 1007 - weird) fixed it.

downloaded the int version of 4.27 [gonna upgrade form the asus 1.16 drivers!]

anyway i disable my virus scanner, clicked on the setup and i got the copyright form to tick, confirmation of which folder it will load to and the extrating bar. after this the nvidia splash screen came on my screen for a while then gone the nothing.

the machine didnt lock or anything but whilst the "nividia" folder appeared nothing [eg Nforce audio] was updated. i tried rebooting and then also clicking on the setup form the nvidia folder and i get the splash screen again but that is it.

what am i doing wrong?

I just got the A7N8X-X version. With an athlon xp 2500+.

I can get it to run at 133mHz fsb but not at 166mHz with 2700ddr ram. When I try it at 166 mHz, it gets hung up while loading windows-right when you get your background screen and you network prompt.

It runs fine at 133, but with the multiplier lock, I'm running at about 1900+.

Can anyone help me?? Thanks.

Did you uninstall the old drivers? You might also try using Driver Cleaner 3.
No trouble on my a7n8x-Dlux

no i didnt - but then again these are supposed to be over-the-top installs frmo what i understand.
in the end i used "windows 2000 compatability mode" and that got it to work/install.

got there in the end, but puzzling that i needed to do this.
also, i ended up with 2 taskbar nforce icons: 1 for nvmixer and 1 for nforce apu - when i clicked on the latter i just got an error message but i had to unselect "load in taskbar" to get rid of it so i guess there are dregs still floating about in the machine...

Man this thread is big!

I've got the sound crackling problem on my A7N8X (note it is not the deluxe version).
I don't have time to trawl though this thread ,are their any answers to this problem?

I've already tried latest realtek drivers(345) ,HS on the SB ,altered PCI latency for vid card (via PCI latency tool).

Thought I'd try here before I buy a sound card

why not try "searching" within it for sound/crackling that type of thing?
otherwise you can head to the nforcershq forum with a dedicated nforce audio section

Yes, I have a 200 gb hd and no problems.
I use the Nforce 5.03 downloaded from Guru3d: I've tried them for a month and these drivers work very well on my Asus. This motherboard gives me a lot of satisfactions!

I thought only Asus drivers were supposed to be used for the Asus mbrds?

Btw I noticed in Asus's BIOS download page there's 1008 ,but it was released before the 1007 bios! ,What's going on their? (& no it wasn't for rev2.0 mbrds)

Hello. I'm hoping someone will have some info because I'm at a loss here...
I have the A7N8x Deluxe mobo with an ATI Radeon 9800 Pro AIW videocard, but when I boot the machine, I have horrible video corruption. Multiple colored boxes and lines that fill the screen. I tried the card in another system and same thing, so I RMA'd the card back to ATI. I installed the "new" card yesterday and I still have the same issue. Is there maybe something I have to change in the BIOS? I have contacted ATI again and now I'm waiting on an ATI tech to call me back with more info because they can't figure it out. Does it sound to you guys like another bad card or something wrong on my end? Any info would be greatly appreciated. Thanks much!

Hi tecnomuzic! welcome to the forum!

The symptoms you described are typical of bad or not enough ram. I would bet 0.005 cents that changing for better ram or increasing it will solve the problem.

Another 0.005 cents for checking the graphics aperture or something like that in the BIOS and increasing it .

Another 0.005 cents for enabling AGP intead of PCI graphics in the bios.

One last 0.005 cents for installing the latest drivers for the card and checking for proper display settings.

So here are my 0.02 cent's worth. Hope it solves the problem.

Hello Technomuzik. Did you have another Video card installed on this M/B prior to installing the ATI Radeon 9800 Pro ?? Sounds or looks like a driver corruption problem. I had a very similar problem when I switched from an NVidea type card to the ATI 9600 XT. If that's the case; you must totally remove all previous video drivers and reinstall the ATI drivers. A good freebie utility that removes all traces of old drivers is "Driver Cleaner 3". You can find DriverCleaner via 'Google' ... look for DriverCleaner by "DriverHeaven" I downloaded from the Softpedia site.

He mentioned that he gets the corruption when he boots up ,presumabley he meant before windows loads(?) ,in which case it can't be a driver issue.

Btw ,I could be wrong here ,but I don't see how insufficient RAM could cause corruption at bootup?

tecnomuzik

Try a different AGP vid card to see if that makes any difference.
If you have 2 sticks of RAM try taking 1 out & then fire it up to see if its better ,if not then try the other stick by itself. If it works with one but not the other you know you have a duff stick of RAM

Good point A....1. I wonder at what point does he see the corruption. Does he see a clean post; then get corruption when the O/S kicks in? Then it could be the drivers. Swapping video cards to another machine proves nothing; unless the other machine was running the same video card and had the correct drivers. I still bet it's a driver problem; But only cause I've been down that road. Seems video cards are very particular about having the correct drivers.

I had display corruption with my AIW 9700pro and A7N8x Deluxe (after months of no issues), turned out be the +12v rail on my Antec True480 powersupply. I swapped it with an enermax 350 I had lying around and it been solid for months now. Oddly, the Antec works flawless in my A7N8x Deluxe eVGA 6800 rig.

I suspect powersupply maybe...
