Thanks

This motherboard does not allow the higher multipliers.
You turned off spread spectrum in bios right?

I have almost the same system with a Hercules 9700 Pro. I used the have problems until I found out I could use the exact same drivers from ATI's website.
Hercules drivers are usually several versions behind.
Since I went with ATI, no problems. The latest Catalysts (4.4) have fixed all errors and not created any new ones.
I have installed, played and uninstalled about 30 Direct3D and OpenGL games since then and they all work great. Most of them are newer titles.

What do you mean doesn't allow the higher multipliers. Plenty of people on this thread have processors at 3000+ or 3200+. I understand if my CPU won t reach that high but then it just wouldn't post not underclock my board. If it is the M/B should i send a problem report to Asus requesting it to be fixed in the next BIOS. Im not sure if i have spread spectrum enabled or disabled. I have one noob question tho what does spread spectrum do.
Thx

I've tried several sticks of ram, double checked the jumpers and the board itself. Using a Antec 350 Trueblue.... Anyone have any ideas to whats wrong? Could it be the proc or thermal diode?

I was having the same issue the other day with my thermal diode, the PSU would shut down after 5 seconds. Simple solution was to reapply some Artic Silver on the HS. I checked my voltage rails with my DMM prior to reapplying the Silver, just to be sure.
However, at the time I was doing some HS swapping and knew what to check.

Good Luck! :music:

I think the A7N8X gives the 12.5 multi and lower. Most people don't use the higher multis anyway, but just raise the FSB.
Spread spectrum reduced EMI, but lowers overclocking potential.
What speed is your ram?

You should see what that value ram can do. Max out the vdimm, lower the multi and crank up the FSB. As you raise the FSB, if you boot into memtest86 (off a CD or floppy) and run just test five (only takes a minute), you can make sure its stable enough to boot into windows without corruption. You'll probably get to 200 FSB, or close to it. When you find a max stable FSB then raise the multi to max out the cpu. Don't worry about temp readings, just run prime95 all day to make sure its stable. Depending on your case ventilation and room temperature, you may be able to raise vcore a little. A good thermalright heatsink you really help though.

ok im not familiar with mem test. Thanks for all the help and ill have to become familiart with it . I tried some FSB OCing with this memory i think i made it up to 188 :-( but hey i didn't increase the Vdimm at all. 2.8 is max u sure i wont fry my memory :-D .

OK I got it im happily running a 3000+. Im very suprised the Kingston Value RAM made it up to 200FSB. Rightnow i don't want to make it any higher. My CPU vcore is at 1.8 but Asus probe is reading it at 1.84 and my Vdimm as at 2.8. I also cleaned out the fan and when i lifted it up its like the thermal past exploded. It was all over the chip so i took some Q-tips and cleaned it up nicely SAM goes for the HSF. Now im also running a hot but stable 60C 65C underload with a 28C case temp. I believe i am right in saying this is because it summer and the ambient room temperature isn't exactly cool. Also my case fans are kinda no name ones from bestbuy. They spin at around 2900RPM and are clear blastic with the LEDS. And then im using 2 that came with the Chieftec case. Should i use different fans like panaflo or something or will these do. They run around 28.9 DBA.
Thx for all the help

I need some help.

Ever since I got this board I've been having a lot of trouble with the nForce integrated sound card drivers. For some reason, the drivers will randomly stop working. When I try to open a mp3, it simply won't play, and if I try to open a game, it'll either crash and give me a sound-related error message, or it will open up but not play any sound. The only way I've been able to temporarily fix this problem is to uninstall and reinstall the drivers. I have to do this about once a day. I used to be able to do this without having to reboot my computer, but the latest nForce drivers require you to reboot each time, making the whole process a huge hassle. I've tried mutliple drivers, and the problem persists. Does anyone know how I can fix this?

Thanks.

Thanks.

In what order did you install windows, service packs, drivers, etc.?

I installed Windows, drivers, and then Windoews updates as they came in via the auto updater.

I can't remember what version of the drivers I tried, but I seemed to have the same problems with all of them.

I am currently using the drivers off the Asus website (not made by nVidia), and so far I haven't had any problems with them.

Thanks for the quick responses.

Has anyone been able to use the nVidia System Utility to tweak their CPU voltage?

The A7N8X-E is only one of five boards that runs this utility. However, apparently they haven't worked out the controls for the voltage or fans yet.

Any suggestions on a utility program that can tweak the voltage levels?

Hey guys (n girls if there are any here). I just bought some Kingston Hyper X memory for my puter, two sticks of 512DDR 4000. My question is, How do I over clock this? I have the A7N8X-E Deluxe with a 2500 Barton and a 160gig WD HD. From what i saw in the Bios, my ram setting are: 8-3-3-3T, if i read it right. I did have 1 gig (1 512 and 2X256 pc 2100) of Crucial ram and I dont really see any difference in this ram other than the pretty blue heatspreaders lol. I ran CPU-Z and it says i'm running at 1837MHz cpu, Multiplier 11.0, FSB @ 167, Bus speed @ 334. My system doesnt seem to be running any faster than it did with the Crucial ram which, as i stated was PC2100 where this new ram is PC4000..... Do i have something wrong? ANY and ALL help is much appreciated.

Thanks

Will

I have that same problem man. I just cant get system utility to work either. I think Asus has to release a new Bios for it to work.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

I got this, info from here a long time a go, Here goes.

1 - Windows XP
2 - Windows SP1
3 - MB Drivers, (a lot of time has passed, and no, Asus 16 something drivers are not the latest, with a clean install NVIDIA 13. something are the best at this time. Within this driver package will be the latest soundstorm drivers. ( A side note, go over to NforcersHQ.com Forum, to the nforce2 drivers forum, you will find a post on how to just update the Sounstorm drivers only, this may fix your problem. )
4 - DirectX
5 - Video Drivers
6 - any other device drivers
7 - Windows Updates
8 - all the rest off your software

Hope this helps

Ahoy Jim. I can't find that post on the NforcersHQ forum. Would you happen to have a direct link by any chance?

come on guys, any help with my memory question at all would be appreciated. My main reason for asking is that if this is not really going to help with my gaming, I can return the memory to bestbuy and get something that will. I also wanted to note that my PC2100 memory was running at Dual Channel where as this memory is only running at Single Channel, is there some way i can change this to run at dual or is it stuck at this? PLEASE HELP.

Thanks much guys.

Hey williama1018, here is my tow bits worth,
It seems from what you have posted that you are effectively running your PC4000 ram at PC 2700 i.e. your ram is capable of doing way above 220*2 Mhz. Moreover you are running it at slow timing also. For enabling dual channel you have to put the modules in specific dimms. Refer to the manual. It is very clearly shown. A liitle ocing is also recommended , atleast upto 200 FSB. Then even if you don't increase your multi you will be effectively running at 11*200=2200 MHz.

Hey Unbiased, thanks much for ur input. You were correct, there was a section on settin it up for "dual channel, thanks for pointing that out. I set the "preset" to "aggressive" but still dont really see a difference. I set the FSB to 170 and the computer flat out locked up, had to remove the battery to get back into the bios to reset everything. My memory FSB is set to 200, the "timings" r still at 8, 3,3,3t. should i change these settings? If so, what should i change them to? I ran 3D Mark 2003 and got a score of 5564, I guess thats not too bad considering i dont know what the heck i'm doin lol. Again, i really appreciate the help i have gotten with this, if i can return the favor in any way at all, i'll try.

Will
