Dude, just download a64 tweaker... It will allow you to change almost every memory setting...

Although, as of yet I have been unable to change my CAS in a64 tweaker w/out locking up the machine, but that really doesn't matter much b/c it is the only one I have to change in the BIOS

I will try. Thanks.

i got a xp-120 cooler and it fits, but you should install the ram's first since the xp-120 is so big the first 2 ram slots are under it, but you can fizzle=) them in with the cooler installed its just no fun.
but its a does great work and makes barely any noise. the small mb-cooler is 5 times louder ......

Just got my system up and running, and it definitely looks like it has some problems with NCQ. I had to disable it on my Maxtor drive for now. A shame really, but I am sure they will have it fixed soon.

Is anyone having luck using DimondMax10's for SATA RAID? I will be trying to build one using BIOS 1002

Thanks.

Motherboard headers?

And how are you controlling them?

ASUS Qfan?
Other software (e.g. SpeedFan)?
rheostat or other hardware tach controller?
not controlling them running at full speed?

I'm just wondering what to do because the motherboard headers will provide monitoring and control, but I've heard some reports about them being blown out by powerful fans (I'll be using 2 120mm fans). The power supply I'm getting (Neopower) says it will control case fans according to temperature, but is that optimal? Also, if I use something like SpeedFan, won't the fans spin at full tilt until I get into Windows and FanSpeed loads?

Any cooling advice is welcome. Thanks in advance.

If you look in the manual it will give you specs on what the motherboard headers can handle. I can't really remember the stats except I know that they can draw 2amps max. I currently have a 120mm connected to one of the motherboard headers. It is the standard rear exhaust fan for the Lian-LI PC-v2100. I don't remeber the specs, but it is working fine.

One thing I have noticed however, is that speedfan doesn't seem to be able to adjust any of the fans I have hooked up (including the CPU and NB)...
:|

I wonder if there will be a new version released to fix it ( I tried 4.19)

I've been in contact with Alfredo Comparetti (the author of speedfan) over the last couple of days. He has been extremely supportive, and has already sent me 4 Beta revisions to try and get it working with the ASUS SLI board. I've been Beta testing on this end.

So far, it has been modified to actually read the SMBus, as well as seeing the video cards. Fan speeds and temps are now being returned. No luck yet in controlling the fan speeds, but he is working hard and quickly on it. I plan on PayPal'ing him a donation when his work is done on this board, he really deserves it.

When he has it working, I will let you all know.

Hi,

I have 2 Maxtor 6Y120M0 SATA 120gb drives, which I'm having problems with the a8n-xli deluxe.

Whatever port I use, be it the nvidia sata ports or the si sata II ports, the hdds sometimes get seen in the bios and sometimes they aren't.

I literally have to restart multiple times before the sata drives are seen again.

Is this a normal problem? Maybe an incompatability with maxtor sata? I have been using a maxor 60gb pata drive with no problems and got a lovely 3dmark05 of 10975 (with ocs), so stability isn't an issue

Please help, I need to use my sata drives. Using bios 1003.005 if it matters

regards

I've said it before, but please if you are having issues with your Maxtor drives and this board, contact Maxtor and let them know. The problem will never be solved if we don't let the people who can solve it know that there are issues. I've submitted this issue to Maxtor already, but if am the only one who does, then they could possibly think it is an isolated issue ad not the major problem that we all know it is.

I contacted Maxtor and ASUS yesterday afternoon.

So this only happens with maxtor sata drives?

I can't specifically answer your question, (don't own any Maxtor SATA drives), but I've not had any issues with the WD Raptor RAID or the single 250GB WD SATA drive that I'm currently running.

Sure... but do the WD drives support NCQ, and do you have it enabled? That's when the problems start.

Exactly, as soon as I enabled NCQ on my Maxtor 300gb, I started having read problems. Nothing destructive, just very slow read/access times. I quickly turned it off, for now.

I learnt the hard way with NCQ on Maxtors, Windows ended up getting corrupted and it was impossible to boot. I'd only installed 24 hours before, and I left administrator password blank, but this got corrupted too. It meant it though I had a password when I didn't, I couldn't even repair the installation as you need to login as Admin.

I've also lost my DiamondMax10 300GB in the BIOS twice now with newer Beta BIOSes and don't intend on using one until I'm sure it won't disappear again.

Apparently, they do not support NCQ. The only info I can find on WD's site is a PDF that states;
"Most manufacturers of SATA hard drives, SATA controllers, and SATA RAID adapters are working on a technology to solve the the SATA Native Command Queing (NCQ) problem."

The PDF did not elaborate on what the problem is.

Could use some help here guys.

My rig is completely stable at stock speeds, and can run overclocked up to 2.4ghz just fine. But, once I reboot again with my OC settings, the bios warning message comes up and says last boot failed and asks to change settings in the bios.

I can hit F1 and continue on, but it will revert to stock 2Ghz and sometimes BSOD. I've tried almost every possible voltage, multiplier, and HT setting....and it still does it. I can run Counterstrike all day at 2.3Ghz, but for some reason once I reboot it doesn't like it. Doesn't make much sense because if I change any settings at all in the BIOS it will boot up just fine overclocked.

I've tried to use the AI booster to keep it at 2.2Ghz, but it will BSOD when I enable the overclock. I know it's not getting hot, can't figure out why it won't keep this setting. I have 10x multi enabled, 9x multi and fsb at around 260 with HT at 4x. Voltages are completely fine on all rails.

Haven't tried to flash with the new beta-BIOS, because I'm not exactly sure how to do it. I don't have floppy installed, and the Asus autoupdate won't find any beta bios to flash to. I'm hopping this will fix my problem.

Any thoughts??

Oh, and why does performance drop so bad when dropping the HT to 4x? My memory benchmark dropped by almost half.

FYI, NCQ actually degrades performance in a battery of applications, especially anything that is also CPU intensive (such as games) where loading data from the HD causes additional lag because of the NCQ overhead (15%) compared to normal 2% utilization.

I have left off the command queuing as well.

With it enabled, my 2x Raptor WD740GD RAID0 peformance plummets below 100 MB/sec.

Leaving it disabled, I can achieve the expected 141 MB/sec

Usually it warns about OC when you have messed up memory settings. Not very helpful tho. HTx4 is too much usually with 260fsb because it goes way beyond 1000ghz(4x260). I recommend dropping it to 3x.

Bios update is easy one to perform, just download newest beta bios from asus download page and then choose "update from file" from asus update. I hope this helps

Regards...

Run Bios 1002. I dont have problems with detection on my Maxtor Sata drives with this BIOS. In all of the BEta Bioses I have had issues with the controller detecting the drive (but for me it was only the diamondmax 10, some of my older diamondmax pro 9 SATA's get detected with the beta BIOSes no prob)

Working with 3200+ 90nm week 47and this MB. So far Prime stable and all 3Dmarks OK at 2.65 GHz @ 265x10, 1.55v, HTT 4x. (stock fan, AS5, Mushkin Basic Ram 2x 512 @217MHz, 2.5,3,3,7 and 2.75v). Temps 30C idle 43C max load.

Problem: setting CPU voltage to 1.5625 or lower gives 1.46v to cpu. 1.575 bumps it to 1.585. Newest BIOS. Tried resetting with clockgen, but no results (ASUS Probe and CPUID show no change, and the temps stay same, they always rise when overvolt any CPUs). Need a setting that gives me proper 1.52-1.55v. 1.585 takes CPU over 50C, and 1.46 doesn't run stress tests at 2.7GHz.

Is this a prob with this BIOS? Anybody work around this?
