That is recomended, but not esential for NF4 boards like this.

The ATX 2.0 spec's where developed for server applications well before the advent of of SLI motherboards. In a server environment dual rail power supplies are very usefull in supporting multiple hard drive arrays. The ATX 2.0 specs did not take into account the high power requirements of the motherboard when running 2 high end video cards.

Dual rail power supply should not be used on this board!! unless you can find one with 25a on the primary rail.

Here is a pic of the header assembly:

How is the PC Turbo-Cool 510 SLI? Is your system running stable? I have a OCZ 600 Powerstream but after reading the manual it appears this PS does not make enough amps on the 12V line for our SLI setups. I pretty much have the same setup as you but the machine is not stable and im not OCing.

Your OCZ should have plenty of current for 2 boards. Did you plug an additional power cable into the EZ Plug on the Mobo. It says that 2 cards will not be stable until you supply power to this connector. I am in the process of assembling my machine. Got everything now but the darn video cards - I am having a tough time locating 6800 Ultras for under $600 bones. Where'd you get yours? How much did you pay?

Scott, I have the same case, I found that if I did a little creative re-routing of the PC-1000's wires, everything would reach. Basically, I took the left side panel off and routed all of the cases cables through that plastic clip near the left bottom of the motherboard, then up behind the CD bays.

Hope this helps.

I think I'll jerry rig a 10-pin internal female to 10-pin internal male and add 3 inches. Short of this I will have to re-route the cables per your method. What a PITA. Everything else is so fine on that Lian-Li, you think they would have had this one dialed. Thanks for the help.

Hey, since this is the official thread for this motherboard and all, I have a friend with a real problem with his two SLI Certified MSI NX6600GT-TD128E cards. The problem is, when he enables SLI within the ForceWare drivers, an notification dialog pops up and tells him "His secondary display cannot be used in SLI mode because his second graphics card will be used to assist the primary card", then the drivers clear the SLI checkbox.

I've checked everything out and the cards are just fine on their own, the hardware is all good and the OS is installed and working quite stable.

We've tried different ASUS BIOS's and ForceWare and NForce drivers, all with the same result.

The configuration is all exactly correct, EZ Plug power connected, the selector card is set to Dual, the BIOS is configured to Auto (or SLI, doesn't make any difference).

When we boot the system, the ForceWare drivers pop up a little speech bubble in the system tray saying "This system is configured for SLI, click here to enable it", so I am sure everything is right there.

Any ideas/

The message you listed I beleive actually says something like "If you enable SLI mode the outputs on the second card will be disabled" do you want to enable SLI? Yes/No. This message is normal and basically means if you are running SLI only the outputs on the primary card are active. You must click Yes to enable SLI, if you click No it clears the checkbox.

Hi,

Thank for your reply, Yeah I did plug in that extra power into the EZ Plug. Still I get random crashes and system freezes every now and then. I think the 20 AMPS per rail is just not enough for this thing. Any how I got mine from gameve.com, I know on eBay there are some with ending below 600. You should check it out.

HAD INSTALLED BIOS 1003, AND THATS WHERE PROBLEMS STARTED. REFLASHED BIOS WITH 1002 AND IM RUNNING LIKE A TOP. FOR SOME REASON 1003 WOULDNT RECOGNIZE THE RAID ARRAY AND WOULD LOCK UP AFTER PCI PERIPHERAL IRQ BOOT SCREEN. THATS WHAT I GET FOR FIXING SOMETHING WITH A NEW BETA THAT WASNT BROKE

ITS WORKING GREAT NOW

I think the ultimate power supply is going to the the PC Power and Cooling 510 Deluxe SLI. This is actually Nvidia certified hardware. Based on my research you are right GuitarDaddy, this board needs a strong single 12V rail especially when running 2X 6800 Ultras. Waiting for my 510 SLI. Its back order and should arrive by the 26 of this month.

Michael.

If noise is not a factor, I agree, the PCP&C 510 will be the ultimate. However, I'm writing this with earplugs in place as a customer of PCP&C!!!

I'm curious where people are finding reference suggesting that dual rail supplies are not suitable for SLI.

Check this out...

BTW, anyone find a way to cool the NF4 chip without the 8K RPM fan supplied...?

That's a very good link iscsidude.

The two equations we are dealing with are: Watts = Volts times Amps, AND watts divided by volts = amps.

Sorry if this has been posted already but is everyone running onboard LAN? The reason I'm asking is because I'm using a netgear FA311 NIC instead of the onboard LAN (just a preference since the onboard connection on my old A7N8-X used to just disappear randomly) and I'm getting much slower download speed than with the onboard Marvell. A 1.7M file takes about 20secs with the Marvell connection but up to 2minutes with the NIC. This is after a fresh install of XP, SP2, Windows firewall turned off (currently running Norton) and NIC driver from the CD. Oh and whenever I use the Marvell ethernet port, I get a high-pitched noise from the system

Could give me fast recommendation about ram. You can see my rig from my signature.

I have Kingston Valueram 1gig(512mbx2) PC3200(DDR400), and I could get Kingston HyperX PC3500(DDR443) 1gig(512mbx2) by paying 60euros.
Is the trade fair/reasonable/too much?

I can't get OCZ, Corsair or any other awesome sticks from the local stores around here, nor webshop around here. Only Kingston HyperX DD433. Please answer quickly so I know should I buy. Thanks in advance.

ps. this question ain't needing a fast answer, but what mobo drivers you use?(as for chipset/audio etc) I use nforce 6.31 REMIX from guru3d, works great but not sure could it work even better.

Thanks Sreams,
I'd like to use it on both as well.
What video card are you running it on?

Can I assume you are also running a Zalman CPU Fan?

But the noise from the psu doesn't matter that much, considering the constant annoying rumble coming from the chipset fan, in addition to the not very quiet AMD stock cpu fan, all of which I can hear quite clearly thru the supposedly quiet Antec Sonata case, which has friggin holes in the sides that lot all the noise out. This is the price you have to pay for high performance I guess, it's just a shame that it makes me not want to turn it on at all.

What kind of monitor do you have? You might have to lower the res/screen refresh rates on a different monitor and log out to save the settings (I don't think settings save if you change them in safe mode).

*shrug* I just know that that is exactly what happened at that same point when I plugged in a really old monitor.
