Ok cool, are you running your OS on an ide drive?

I'm still scared to test them out, since i've transferred over all my data from my old machine...

eva2000,
I'm also running fine with the NVIDIA IDE driver, but I don't remember being asked about the NIC Firewall options. No problems with the NIC, but I was wondering how I could check to see if the NVIDIA firewall is installed. Nothing appears in Device Manager or the Adapter Properties Dialog about NVIDIA Firewall.

I'm also booting from IDE drives, with NVRAID, and no problems since I disabled command queueing.

I know this has been covered...but I'm getting tired...
ok, started out with this set up,
2x6800 ultras
1xdiamond max10(300gig)
2x74gig raptors
1x audigy plat zs
1xturbo cool 510 sli deluxe
2xocz plat rev 2 ddr3200
tsunami dream...
stock cooling
usb zippy keyboard
microsoft scroll mouse
hp 23" l2335
pulled the audigy...wouldn't even post(bottom slot)
disconnected the diamond max...I have had windows loaded a couple of times, however I can't seem to get the raptors in raid 0 to show up in windows. At least windows isn't seeing them, I've set the bios correctly, I think...nvidia raid array configged, enabled raid for nvidia in bios, disabled silicon raid, made floppy raid disk... start windows install but when I hit f6 it won't load the drivers off the floppy...nothing happens when I hit f6? Maybe someone could help me out with getting this raid going...walk me through a successful install...thanks for any help in advance...also windows never even sees the diamond max 10...I have the raptors connected to the sata 1 and sata 2 ports (black)...

Hi folks: pardon this dweeby question, but I have one of these mobo's and I seem to be having only one problem. I have evrything set at AUTO except PegLink mode which I have disabled. Nothing is overclocked (yet). I have just one 6800 ultra card (yes I flipped the little SLI mode card over), one SATA seagate hard dirve, one Plextor PX-712SA DVD reader/writer and one generic 3.5 floppy. I have nothing (yet) plugged into any PCI slot. I have a 500W power supply with separate power to everything except my case fans. I tried running Nvidias's NTune program just to check everything out and I always get the following error message:
"Warning: Your PCI clock is currently set to track the HT bus. If you adjust the clock for the HT bus, the PCI bus clock will change as well. Please consult your motherboard manual before proceeding.
NVIDIA is not responsible for data loss or hardware damage resulting from ignoring this message."
Scared the beejeebers out of me! Anybody know what that means? I sent an e-mail off to ASUS support and I'm hoping I get an answer in English.
I read throught the manual and can see no reference to the aforementioned setting. I read somewhere that Nvida prefers asynchronous to synchronous mode. I have no idea what that means. Anybody else try this utility? Have I made a boo-boo? Any advice would be appreciated. Sorry for the long post.

quik, i have audigy 1 in 3rd or first PCI slot (nearest to PCI-E card), and sometimes my card works fine, sometimes it's just playing beeeeep all the time. All i have to do is restart windows and it works okay. I'm sure that changing it to middle PCI slot will solve this, but do I have to uninstall drivers and all first, or can i just change it?

Arbor,
Insert the ASUS CD and when autorun comes up, click on the "Manuals" tab at the top. Then read the NV Raid Setup Guide.

I did the following:

- Went into the BIOS for the NVIDIA RAID and configured the Raptors as Raid 0. Did you follow the step
to add the drives to the array?
- Disabled Sil Raid
- Created Floppy with MakeDisk in the following directory of the ASUS CD:
P:\Drivers\Chipset\WINXP_2K\Driver_Disk
- Inserted WinXP CD
- When prompted, I press F6 and insert the floppy from above.
- 2-3 minutes later, I'm prompted to press "S" to install the Raid drivers.
Do the above step twice. Once for the Raid Driver and once for the controller.
- At this point, you should see a disk with ~140GB. If you see this then you know your array is setup
correctly. i.e. ~70GB X 2
- If you don't see 140GB, then don't bother to continue. Something is wrong!!
Your BIOS isn't defined correctly or your drivers didn't get loaded.
- I chose to format the Drives in the WinXP install program for the WinXP partition
- If you do see 140GB, continue with the install. I'm in the process of setting up Dual Boot for Linux
and Win XP 64 (If I can find a 64 Bit NVRAID driver) so I have four partitions in the array.
- After Windows completes its routine, go into Device Manager and select:
- IDE Controllers
- NVIDIA CK804 ADMA Controller
Ensure Command Queueing is disabled for your Raptor drives.
Don't forget to check the Primary and Secondary Channels Tabs on top.
- One Drive will be on Each Channel
- Reboot
- Now insert your ASUS CD and install the NVIDIA drivers
- You will have a new item in your start menu called NVIDIA Corporation.
This is where the RAID Manager lies.
- Click on it to check the status. Hopefully, Healthy!!!

Hope this helps.

I was using just a single WD 160 IDE drive. No raid or anything I wanted to get things setup before I tried anything else. Having a lot of memory problems with board with 512. I found I could run one in B1 but not A1 and B1 in dual mode. 256 ran fine in dual mode. I also tried a 30 gig Maxtor drive IDE and had the same problems. For onboard items to just stop being detected usually means a board problem. So far my distributor says they have a 50% return percentage on this board what does that tell you?
I called the board a piece of crap because it is. I have been to many forums and sure some people get it working I had it working also, with no 1394, and no Marvel Lan. I had to use onboard sound because the PCI bus stopped working also. Board was stable but it was far from being perfect. I have read many articles where people were having the same problems. I bought 2 x512 ram that was listed on the Asus site as compatible and it would not run in dual mode, I could not get windows loaded until I put two Samsung 256 chips in. So that tells me they have ram problems. Seen a lot of others also with that problem. As far as mofrack asking for a break, I don?t disagree with you about some of your statements but I did a lot of looking before I posted. And I can tell you a lot of people are having problems. CoolMax is not a crap power supply, look at the reviews. The voltages are very steady across the board and there is plenty of reserve power on the 12 volt line. Also to say Antec true power 480 is not a good power supply shows you have no clue what you are talking about. You know one of the reasons this board is hard to get? Because they are using their stock to replace all the RMA?s.
I?m sure Asus will finally work out the problems but for a new board to have so many new bios files should tell you something. They sent me 1004.008 from Asus and it didn?t fix any issues. And also the Asus support told me to send the board back to them but I didn?t want to wait a month for a new one like the last time I RMA a board to them. So I sent it back from where I bought it. Good luck to the rest

I am wondering has anyone hooked up 2 seperate Raids at the same time? I have 4 maxtor SATA maxtor 120gb drives in my intel setup. 2 sets are raided (raid 0) in a dual channel config. I haven not heard anyone mention if there are any issues. I did read on one forum(I forgot which one) someone having a issue getting second raid to work in windows. I think they had NVIDIA raid on boot and when config the second one in windows they had problems. Let me know I want to get this board but need the dual raid.

With my soon to be purchased "ASUS A8N-SLI Deluxe". I need some ideas on the best vcard, 1G memory, and PSU to use with this mobo. Does anyone have any ideas for me? I'm going to have the AMD 64 3500+ Winchester. Also, when I say 'best', best for me is probably 6800 or 6800GT, memory I haven't got a clue, but I know I want something fast and stable and a gig of it!! As far as the PSU, the only criteria for it is it needs to be quiet with lost of POWER!

Thank you all very much for your time in responding to this newbie's questions.

I really am just wanting a bad @$$ gaming rig!!

Thanks again!!!

Jack,
It appears you have 66 pages of recommendations.
Video Card, 1GB memory and PSU's.

Just put a stake in the ground and go from there. While there lots of peeps with problems, there are lots of others with none. Fortunately, I'm in the latter category as of this nanosecond.

Happy Reading !!!

I would uninstall the drivers anyway, i know its a pain since you have to instal from the original cd, then 2-10 other updates, rebooting each time..

But worth it to make sure i guess...

Pasted from the previous page...

Also another issue for those trying to use ntune, and it gives you a message saying your PCI bus is being tracked by the HT bus blah.. blah..

Flash to 1003 final or any other higher build, which has a PCI clock speed lock setting in the bios.. alternatively or also you can set your HT Bus to 201 or higher to lock the PCI bus i believe.

I had a few stability issues so i didn't do much with ntune other then a few tries... gonna try later when im sure my system is stable completely...

Yeah, official version of ntune doesn't support. But we use ntunes delivered by asus and there are some leaked newer version of supporting ntune. In www, this ntune with asus a8n sli support, uses mostly name ntune 2005. And ntune in nvidia page uses name "System Utility". Strange things that nvidia still haven't updated forceware to correct sli problems, no updated ntunes with even mb supports nor even new unified driver with nforce4 support.

Im using OCZ El Platinum Rev.2 (samsung TCCD), its slated for 2-2-2-5 at 400ddr, but i have it at 2.5-3-3-10 and its at 490. If you want a great article on memory look no farther than this websites memory column. Here: http://www.anandtech.com/memory/showdoc.aspx?i=2226 ......its all about the best AMD memory there is, i used this article to buy my memory, the OCZ Platinum Rev.2 out performed everyone else, and by alot sometimes too, so thats what i bought when i was looking for the best ram.

Which slot did you place it in on the A8N? Do you have any other cards in any of the other slots? I have the BIOS set to PCIe first. I'm also running BIOS 1003 Final.

I used the PCI3 slot.
In PCI2 I have a Terratec 5.1 sound card.
No room for anything else (thanks to a couple of nv5's)
Running 1004.1 beta. No Overclocking

Just wanted to put a datapoint in here.

For the last week or so my ASUS SLI rig has been running perfect.

Now, I had an issue at 1st, but it was fixed by spending to much $$ on a PCP&C 510 SLI power supply.

I wonder how many of the RMA's for this board are #1 PSU issue #2 agressive OC fails.

Right now I am running stock speed and timing, but I don't feel a huge need to OC the 55-FX right now.. maybe down the road.

I use a WD raptor as a single drive boot drive on the Nvidea sata, and use twin 300gig maxors on the SI raid 0 sata.

System has SLI 6800GT XFX PCIE cards... oddly enough they screwed big plates over the top of the SLI conectors I had to take apart.. so who knows if they are "certified" or not but they seem to be working.

One odd thing on SLI, some games if you "ALT-TAB" will have the gfx get mesed up (alt tabing again often fix's it) it's rather odd to see the top half of the screen diffrent than the bottom when this happens

Remember the "bleeding edge" was not named that by mistake... there is a price to have the new toy on the block.

Also I don't buy into somthing being bad just because it gets posted about.. most people that have it working fine will have no need to come here and post.

Data like "50% returns" is also no proof as i would bet AT LEAST 50% of buyer didn't think to replace the PSU as well.

Also if you can return it, they were selling for $280 and are now $170 so...

Anyway when your in your own "hell" dealing with issues, rather than cuss out fellow posters, be glad that there are others here willing to take there time to help you.

P.S. If you think this board is "bad" talk to me sometime about a supermicro Pentium Pro Dual CPU board I built a system on. (It still runs....)

Hey, thanks a lot for the reply, quick. So many pages in this thread I didn't know where to start.....
Just flashed to 1003 last night, I'll look for that PCI lock setting and lock it.

Thanks again,
