govern1,

I stupidly thought I would try to enable command queing on my DiamondMax 10 drive, and now I can't even get into windows to disable it. Everytime my computer tries to load windows it says "lsass.exe - System Error, Object Name not found".

This even comes up when I try to get in via safe mode. Any ideas on how I can get into windows and disable cmmand queing? Thanks

I read that to enable it you have to enable in bios then install windows. If this is true, then I guess you have to disable it and reinstall windows.

This probably isn't the best idea considering how skimpy the heatsink is. A better idea would be to replace the entire fan/heatsink unit. With something more substantial and more quiet.

The Qfan adjusts CPU and chasis 1 fan on the mobo...so no it wont adjust chipset.

I used a thermaltake volcano 13....just hooked up the 3 lead to it...and single lead to mobo to monitor rpm. It gets about 44C on the surface of the fan bezel...so im thinking the heatsink is about 10C hotter.... I havent had any heat issues or instablities due to it.

Anyone got a clue on my IDE hard drive problem.?

I agree.

I checked to see if the NB-1C would fit yesterday and if you are using 6800 cards, it looks like a no go, unless thermalright provides different mounting equipment (because currently you have to mount it diagonally)

The swiftech nb heatsink might fit, but you could definatley put a WC block on there. This asus board is lke the only SLI board that you could actually do it on though, all the rest have a PCI-E 16x slot right over the NB...

For your IDE prob:

I can give you some suggestions, but it sounds like the drive went bad on you. Does it work fine in another system, currently?

Are your CD and IDE HD on the same IDE channel? I have had probs with that in the past.

Try:
1. Remove the CD drive and have the IDE Disk by its lonesome
2. Try the IDE disk by itself on both Channels
3. Make Sure all cables are seated properly and connected on the correct end.
4. Look at it's SMART status in speedfan or something... Do you see any error signs or poor status indicators?
5. Make sure hte disk is getting proper power. Switch molex leads and make sure your 12v and 5v rails are solid.

Thanks for reply Jmag.
ocz 3700 eb i got supposed to be brand new and i have warranty for it.
when i get sudden reboots from windows i never see blue screens.
Sometimes pretty rarely though i do see bsod -after- windows load screen which comes after
reboot recover.
Other day i ran 3 different pcmark tests plus sandra and never got errors. Will check memtest
right after i finish download sp2.
Weird thing is i got this random reboot thingie even after i formatted hd and installed windows from cd.
(didnt even install nf4/gpu drivers, only windows sp1).
I have impression my cpu simply cant handle stock 2.2 ghz speed.
right now i have 233 x 9 = 2104 and it is still stable after 5 hours. (knock on the table )
i manually set in bios ddram 466 and 2.9v for memory. rest was auto.
I will try lock pci bus as well but come on, its kinda preposterous
that pci bus needs to be locked even at stock speed .
You came with interesting observation about sucky cpu.
Is it even possible? Someone knows how often one sees faulty athlon 64 bad cpu?
Temps are 40C for gpu 25-27 for mobo and 34-35 for cpu.

How did you get 3700EB new? Also, where did you get it? It has been out of production for months now. I actually tried getting some a couple months ago when I heard theat manufacturing had stopped. I tried ordering it from Canada even but was unsuccessful.

I am running my 3000+ at 2.55ghz right now and it isn't giving me any more problems than normal (heh).
But I set my voltage to 1.6 in the BIOS and CPU-Z shows 1.56 under no load... It dips a little more when under load. Although, I am running a winchester so my volts will be lower than yours.

Have you tried different CPU voltage settings??? Also, are thoose CPU temps under load or idle? With my voltage at what is stated above it tends to run about ~42 C under load with prime or something...

Your GPU wouldn't be causing this... If it was overheateing it would just drop you back to windows...

Also, where did this CPU come from? Have you tried it in another rig?

I might not be the best person to help you with your stability issues, cause I am still having my own probs, which I KNOW are not related to my overclock, since it happens when at stock settings too. My computer just likes to turn itself off ( and to my knowledge so far it is completely random ). I read on this forum a while back that there was some reseller of the a8n-sli in hong kong who had to delay his shipments b/c asus recalled a batch with faulty power regulators. I dunno if this is both yours and my problem...

Well, after tinkering with the settings for the last hr and a half I finally got it to boot at 2.4Ghz with settings of FSB266*9, HT 5x, 2.5/3/3/8 timings, DDR at 2.75 and vCore at 1.5. Although it crashed during 3dmark05

Figured the highest stable OC for me without lowering the HT to 3x is around 2.35Ghz. I noticed that performance drops quite a bit when the HT is lowered to 4x. Memory bandwith was down to around the 3,000's when it should be around 5,000 in Sandra. Aquamark scores were down around 4,000 as well.

I'm just going to keep it at 2.2Ghz with FSB220*10, HT 5X and 2.5/3/3/8 timings. This gives me around a 6k 3dmark05 score and 68,000 aquamark.

Overall, pretty pleased with the board....although I still get random BSOD, but not very often. Was hoping to get 2.4Ghz stable, but oh well what can you do?

Have fun guys, and godspeed.

Well i live in Israel and got this memory with a rest of components from a computer store.
I initially was about to order 3200 plat rev 2 but it wasnt in stock and
3700 eb was what they proposed. I was probably first Israeli to get asus a8n sli deluxe
Ran prime95 now for half an hour and no errors.
I'm really puzzled by this reboot thing. Seems highly unlikely to be memory related.
Would really suck if it's simply a bad mobo.

Well its good that you dont have A02

As noted previously, try upping your PCU core voltage to say 1.6 and see if this creates some more stability.

Also another common sense thing came to mind: make sure there are no loose screws or other things floating around in your case that could create a short. Also, check your SATA cables again (sometimes they feel a little loose and that could cause probs...)

Starting to find these boards in the $189-$199 range. After reading this entire thread (WHEW!) I'm a little hesitant, but the price is very appealing. What to do?

That may be your problem. Use Ai Booster to check your memory voltage. If you set the ddram to 466, and set memory to 2.9v, one of them may switched back. They are on different screens in the bios, and only one can be set to manual. If you set voltage to 2.9V on jumperfree, then memory goes back to auto. If you set memory to 466, then jumperfree switches to auto.

The only exception to the rule is if you set memory to DDR400 (which locks in the 1:1 ratio). If you do that, you can set the DDR voltage to 2.9 (or 2.8 which is the rating for that ram... I have the same memory). After that, bring up the bus speed in the jumperfree screen.

I was having the blue screen problem too until I noticed that the memory voltage was not sticking where I set it. From reading this thread, I learned about what I just told you, and the memory voltage stuck after that.

No more blue screens.

I hope this helps!

HeY guys,

I have just recenlty upgraded to a AMD64 rig from a T-bird 1.466, HEh. I have been however seeing some crappy OC results. Please take a look at my specs and give me advice on what you think is theoretically possible and how to go about it. I was expecting more out of a rig like this.

SPECS:

AMD Socket 939 Athlon 64 3500+, 90nm
ASUS A8N-SLI Deluxe
OCZ Gold Edition Rev2 Dual Channel Kit 1GB(512MBx2) DDR PC-4000
Swiftech H20-120-T Water Cooling
2 X Raptor 74GB 10,000RPM SATA Hard Drive, RAID 0
2 X nVIDIA GeForce 6600GT
ENERMAX Noisetaker Series 420W Power Supply
Cooler Master Centurion Case
Win XP SP2
BIOS 1003-005

You don't say what results you are getting...

A8N SLI spontaneous reboot (reposted in correct forum)

Hope someone can help. Not sure where to start. ? memory, board, PSU, heat, SLI?
Here is the problem ( my setup is in my sig). New build - no problems installing OS, RAID 0+1, or booting up, no OC tried yet. System seems stable for a while - in fact can leave running with no load on CPU for very long time. Baseline CPU temp is 45 C (seems high to me). Once I start putting some pressure on CPU, temp goes up of course, usually around 52-53 with 50% CPU utilization. Have got it up to almost 60 with full CPU utilization for short period (again, seems high). Will tolerate this for awhile, 10-15 minutes, then I get complete shut down and auto reboot. Once this cycle starts, it will boot up and start loading tray items but will not finish, shuts down and reboots again. If I leave machine off for awhile, I can reboot with no problem and it will stay on again until I start playing around with programs then above cycle repeats. Any ideas on where to start? I'd love to get back to HL2 but I haven't even attempted yet. I am running the 02 bios and 66.93 nvidia drivers (tried the 72.14 no diff). Is this a heat problem, PSU prob, bios issue??? any thoughts much appreciated

Genemd i am having very similar problems with newcastle 3500. Just that i usually dont get to
loading tray items it reboots just after windows welcome screen.
You can investigate this thread and see what tricks peope came up with.
I suggest you flash to beta bios 2003.005 since it has pci lock implemented.
Also Thermaltake PSU is a big question mark because Asus official site clearly states
that minimum amperage on +12v rail should be 18 (for systems with low load). And
18A is maximum what TT PSU gives.
45C seems fine for fx-55 which stock speed is 2.6ghz

I'm encountering problems enabling the multiple-gpu option. I have an ASUS A8N-SLI DELUXE and two MSI 6600GT.

Everything has been installed with the standard drivers and bios (1003). Everything seems to work (sound etc) i can play games (Doom 3 etc) but when i go to enable the mulitple-gpu option and press apply i get a message saying that any monitor in the secondary video card will be blank after restart. I click "Ok" and the multiple-gpu option is deselected. I restart the computer and it is still deselected.

This has teh feel of a software/driver/bios issue to it, but i could be wrong.. Did anyone else encounter something similar to this problem as it is annoying me to no end.....

Well i came to a few interesting conclusions:
Seems that my OCZ 3700 EB simply not able to run in 1:1 mode.
When i set DDR400 in bios which supposedly forces 1:1 according to this thread
my comp is not stable even if i significantly underclock it and 3v on Dimm doesnt help as well.
On the other hand when i set memory to AUTO , CPU freq to 233 dimm to 2.9 then comp is
rock solid at 233x9 with 6:5 ratio. If i raise multiplier to 10 stability issues pop up.
Finally i found stable combo but its only 2.1Ghz
So folx what you think its bad memory or bad Cpu? (Newcastle 3500)

The PSU is the likely culprit. I doubt it's getting enough juice to the system and could definitely cause reboots like you are talking about. A good way to check this is to install a system/voltage monitoring program (Asus Probe, Speedfan, etc.) and keep an eye on your voltages, especially the 12V line. Put the system under heavy load and watch what happens to the voltages. I had a PSU go bad once and I could watch the 5 Volt rail drop when the PSU was under load and when it got to about 4.3 volts, the system would reboot every time.

I have exactly the same thing. Best combo for me has been 11x218. Which doesn't give too much power but brings best results with superpi and with pifast. Please if someone could aid us both, I would be very grateful. Thanks already. This is my main problem with this mobo.
