exdeath did you ever remove the sticker on the Ultras revealing the "nVIDIA lady" (sorry, can't remember what they call her)? I just got my Ultra's and can clearly see where eVGA placed the sticker on the top of the heatsink.

When you water cool those cards you should do a project log. I am sure I am not the only person that would want to see it.

Anyway guys finally got my quirks worked out regarding SLI. Got SLI enabled on using 2 EVGA 6800U, but now another problem arises. The problems never seems to stop with this dang board. I can't seem to get into Windows XP when I'm using dual monitors on the primary vid card with SLI. With both monitors plugged into each DVI port, the windows progress bar screen would load but just as its about to go into Windows everything freezes and a hard reboot is required. Unplug one monitor reboot and the system boots no problems. When I was running just a single 6800U, dual monitor worked flawless. Is this an isolated case? Has anyone else experience this problem? Any advice on getting this fixed? Anything is appreciated.

System "turns off" random times.

Has happend about 5 times now in the last 2 hours. Sometimes it will go for a couple hours sometimes for 10 min.

Before I start RMA'ing the MB and the PS i was wondering if anyone else was getting this issue.

There is no warning... the screen just go's instantly black and all fans / power stops.

I can then reboot.

One odd thing... after it has done this "instant shutdown" sometimes bumping the case will start the boot up... if i turn it on and off i can push and move the case a lot and it will not boot.

Fent, I know this may sound somewhat lame, but are all connections firmly plugged in? Have you run any diagnostic progs like Everest to see what your running voltages are at?

Two questions:

Anyone know how to change that start up picture in the BIOS that's a picture of the board by default? I think there is a way, but I can't find it in the manual or the support page.

Also, anyone else have the problem of their case fans spinning really slowly? I have a TT Shark and the 120 fan in the back spins at like 800 according to the fan monitor.... How would I change that? It's not too important because my awesome Kamikiri HSF keeps my processor down at 33 C even after a few hours of playing Counter-strike source at max graphics and my mobo is pretty steady around 35, but it just sort of bugs me.

install AsusUpdate on the ASUS CD and go under programs to the ASUS Update folder, you will see My Logo, use that.

with what looks to be a pretty comparable system I am having a very similar issue. The machine ran fine for 48 hours, with multiple restarts and no problems. Then sudenly would sometime begin boot process, but get hung up after detecting PCI peripherals, ansd sometimes wouldnt even get past ASUS logo the boot screen it would just go black, sometimes with a cursor cue in the upper left hand of the monitor sometime not at all.


was hoping it might be e simple fix bit now not too sure

I am having problems shutting down. sometimes the system shuts down properly but when it does actually shut down it is agonizingly slow...when it doesnt shut down the little box saying windows is shutting down disappears and then my mouse pointer still works and i have nothing but that aqua screen and a mouse pointer again no idea

3. Video issues I was running all of my games absolutely fine for a day or two and then suddenly, without toying with the drivers or bios or ANYTHING i have artifacts all over every texture in every game again no idea

I have tried damn near every bios revision official and beta and these problems persist with the 1003.005 or w/e they are the startup issues appear to have gone away but the shut down problem will NOT go away same with the video it is really ugly and i have tried updating and rolling back the video drivers nothing works anyone that has any ideas with any of this please help me out this is so much money to spend to have it not work :/

I had very similar problems with my machine. In fact, many people seem to be having the same symptoms, but for apparently different reasons. Do you have any PCI cards installed? Are you overclocking? What BIOS are you running?

In my case, it was only happening with my Audigy 2 installed. Removing it seemed to make the problem disappear. However, I was also running the FSB at 250MHz. I was also curious if the manual PCI lock wasn't working.

I reverted to 1002 release BIOS and set my FSB to 240 instead of 250. Negligible speed loss and now it APPEARS to be running completely stable.

I thought I was having a hang on shutdown, the screen would go black but it wouldn't reset. Turns out that if I leave it for long enough it eventually does shut down completely; not sure why it's doing this.

Runestone, all connections firmly plugged in. Was one of my 1st thoughts as well.

This is my thought of the moment on what is happening.

(More testing needed)

I took the side fan and the side of the case off, I pointed a strong fan plugged into the 110v outlet and blasted cold air into the box and tryed to make it fail (played Halo).

It never rebooted. The system has 2 big fans front and back, plus a side fan and the PS has two fans. The XfX 6800GT's throw a lot of heat and seem to be a bit under cooled... however what I think is happening is this... let me know what you guys think.

The box boots fine... if the overall system temp is low the power supply works fine. As it heats up the PS Watt output drops to the point the 12v line is over tapped and (this is streching it) but could the 12v dropping to 11ish cause a system shutdown? not sure, hopeing someone here will know.

Based on the ASUS A8N-SLI User Guide, page 2-25 under power supply requirements, your config probably needs between 20-25 amps on the 12V line.
According to the Thermaltake web site, your PS has a max output of 18A on the 12V line.

I think you may want to try a new Power Supply. Your mobo is probably fine.

Not sure if I got the right thread - but here goes:

Purchased Lian-Li V10000 and Asus A8N-SLI D Mobo. The Firewire header from the front is not long enough to reach the Firewire connector on the Mobo. Anyone know where to find an internal cable that can extend the firewire header? (basically internal 10-pin female to internal 10-pin male)

How is the PC Turbo-Cool 510 SLI? Is your system running stable? I have a OCZ 600 Powerstream but after reading the manual it appears this PS does not make enough amps on the 12V line for our SLI setups. I pretty much have the same setup as you but the machine is not stable and im not OCing.

I have the PC P&C 510 pci-e deluxe and it is solid as a rock. I've never had a power-related issue with it.

Don't even consider that the reading you are getting is true unless you test it with a multimeter. Software SUCKS in determining true voltage.

I do know that if you see any spikes or heavy fluctuation within the voltage readings fomr software you should worry.

I actually was running a 20pin thermaltake 480w wwith only 18amps on the 12v and it was stable (although I drooped fom 12.1v to 11.77 under game load w/ one 6800GT )

Not sure what you are reading, but your OCZ Powerstream 600 has two 12V Rails. According to their web site, one can provide 20A and the other 18A. 38 Amps should be able to handle any SLI setup you throw at it.

20a + 18a on seperate rails doesn't equal 38a. It equals a max amp draw of 20a. Dual rail power supplies are not good for this board for that reason. Dual rail PS's are good for seperate clean power for lots of hard drives, optical drives and accessories. But the max it can deliver to the mobo is 20a, not enough for 2 x 6800. Trade it in and get a single rail PS over 25a

This is about the 10th post I've read regarding people having trouble with dual rail PS's on this board. What is the fasination with dual rail power supplies? 2x anything must be better right? And everyone says 2x15a=30a or 2x18a=36a. Doh! This is electronics not arithmetic!

Cool Thanks for the info. I was looking at it in terms of the V1 Rail. The power to my MOBO via one single is still not enough. Its gonna need 25+ on a single rail.

Thats what I thought. I went ahead and placed an order for Turbo-Cool 510 Deluxe SLI. This is certified for SLI based on Nvidia so hopefully this will provide the clean power I need. This is the PSU used in Alienware's SLI Rig.

Anyone interested in a new condition less then 14 total hours of use OCZ Powerstream 600W. Its on eBay.

Dual 12v rails are part of the ATX 2.0 spec.

That is recomended, but not esential for NF4 boards like this.

Scott, I have the same case, I found that if I did a little creative re-routing of the PC-1000's wires, everything would reach. Basically, I took the left side panel off and routed all of the cases cables through that plastic clip near the left bottom of the motherboard, then up behind the CD bays.
