let me clarify, what i meant was the older version of asusprobe lists powersupply fan rpm, but actually lists the chipset fan rpm.

right now i'm using the final 1003., but all other versions i flashed never listed it either.

Actually my old PS was a Thermaltake W0044RUC Silent PurePower TWV480 480W Total Watts (18amps on the 12v rail)

So, we can tell from this, 18amps is not enough if you have 2 6800GT's and a 55-FX

my system again:

Board: ASUS nForce4 SLI "A8N-SLI Deluxe" (Bios 2002)
CPU: AMD Athlon 64 FX-55 Processor Socket 939 Retail (Stock Fan)
Video: TWO XFX GeFORCE 6800 GT 256MB PCI EXPRESS (X2)
Ram: Kingston HyperX KHX3200UL/512 512MB DDR400 PC3200 Ultra Low Latency (These "work" but I think they are stuck in single channel)
HD#1 Western Digital Raptor 74GB SATA 10000RPM 8MB Model WD740GD (boot drive)
HD#2 Maxtor 300GB SATA 7200RPM 16MB Model 6B300S0 (RAID 0)
HD#3 Maxtor 300GB SATA 7200RPM 16MB Model 6B300S0 (RAID 0)
DVD: Lite-On 16X DVD-ROM Model SOHD-167T (black)
DVDR: NEC 16X DUAL LAYER DVDRW ND-3500A (black)
Sound: CREATIVE LABS AUDIGY 2 ZS
Case: Thermaltake Dream Tower Series -Tsunami VA3000BWA (Black) w/Trans Window
Power NEW: PC Power and Cooling 510 SLI (34A 12v) <<<<<
OLD: Thermaltake W0044RUC Silent PurePower TWV480 480W
Mouse: LOGITECH MX1000 LASER Cordless Mouse (Blue/Black), Model "MX1000"

hi, i am having random blue screens and im sure its PSU related since its dipping in the 11.1v range (12v rail) under load, and 11.45v idleing

Is the new thermaltake 680w psu ok for such a mb? Or perhaps the Enermax 600w which is sli certified? Or perhaps anyone can suggest a good psu?

thanks

Using the Enermax 475 noisetaker v.2 here with one 6600gt, 3500 winchester, ram at 2.8, 3 drives. No probs with power.
That voltage seems way low-mine shows in Everest as running at 11.90-11.97.
Hope that helps.

I just can't take all this noise from my old machine. My PCP&C PSU and CPU fan are the culprits.

Near term, I'm going to remove the little 8K RPM NF4 Chipset fan and replace it with a Zalman NB47J Heatsink. I think I will have enough air flow in the case to keep the NF4 happy. I just ordered the NV Silencer 5, so I'll know on Wed if it will fit the 6800U SLI card. I'm also thinking I can modify the Silencer 5 to add some ducting over to the NF4 SLI and draw some heat from it. I can then take the air right out the back of the case via the Silencer fan. I won't be running SLI for a while, so I'll probably go ahead and use it. Even if it impedes the daughter card connector.

Then when I upgrade to SLI, maybe I'll take the plunge into the water.

I look forward to your review on the Gainward Water Cooled 6800's. (That is, if I can find it in English)

Man, you're gonna go into some serious modding I see. NF4 Chipset fan on A8N is really annoying - couldn't they just put more metal on it, with a slower cooler??? Or they thought - oh, users will put 2 VGA cards on it, one heavy and noisy CPU cooler and our whistler won't be such a big deal. It just so happens that I have only Hyper 6 at low 2200 rpm and X850 XT PE which is noisy only for firs 4 seconds while booting. As for the WaterCooled 6800's, I've had a review of AGP version before... You can find it in this section

http://www.benchmark.co.yu/sho...2de52df24f541255b90fb4

here are last 3 tests of vidcards, and here are the rest of them sorted by date

http://www.benchmark.co.yu/sho...id=5&lito=0&sortiraj=1
http://www.benchmark.co.yu/sho...d=5&lito=40&sortiraj=1
http://www.benchmark.co.yu/sho...d=5&lito=80&sortiraj=1

50 tests on each page... If you find some info's interesting, I could translate some parts for you. We are getting bigger, so we're thinking on opening english version of site (bench-house.com), that'll be to benchmark.co.yu like xbitlabs is to ixbt

Cheers!

I'm a little confused as to what psu you actually have becamse Enermax doesn't make a "475". They don't have any models with 475 in their name nor do they have any with 475 watts. Did you mean the EG495P-VE? I'm waiting on that power supply and would like to know if it's working good for you so I don't have any problems.

What do you mean? What's wrong with NCQ drives and the latest Bios? I have 2 Maxtor diamond max with NCQ. Should I not go to the latest Bios? I have had troubles getting these drives to work properly ina RIAD array...

Hi,

Okay I finally was able to get SLI working and once last problem to solve maybe someone can help. The only problem I am now having with this is just using the windows desktop I get random mouse freezes and then a reboot. I am able to complete 3Dmark05 and run Sandra Burn in with 50+ runs with no problems. Sound card working good now thanks to fasteddie. The computer only gets messed up when I'm just in windows and the mouses just freezes then reboots. I just upgraded to a new power supply - PC and C 510 SLI and this solved the video problem. Any ideas what this can be?

Also Asus PC Probe shows my +12V rail as 11.776 on idle, Is that too low?

This is my current setup. GuitarDaddy, FastEddie any advice would be awesome.

ASUS SLI 1003 Bios
1 Gig DDR PC3200XLPRO Corsair
EVGA 6800 Ultra PCI-E x2
Raptor 74 Raid 0
PC & C 510 SLI PSU

One more thing to fix help!

I've got two Seagate Barracuda 7200.7 w/NCQ drives on my board - I tried turning NCQ on, but it seemed like it was causing some file system corruption so I turned it back off pretty quickly. It sounds like there's some bugs in either the NVIDIA SATA driver or the disks themselves relating to NCQ..

Has anyone noticed that the 1003 Final BIOS is no longer available?

On any of the ASUS sites they only the following are now listed; 1001, 1002, and 1003.007 beta.

I wonder what's up with that!

Ya your right!!

Where is the 1003 final bios? I confirmed that they indeed removed it from downloads page. Maybe there is something wrong with it?
I already updated my bios to 1003 final.

This is making me nervous.

Well, it fixed the voltage problem for me, so I'm not giving it up unless they release something better.

The weird thing with your psu is that its not on the Enermax website but everywhere sells it and reviews it so that was why I was having trouble finding it before. If yours works then my 480watt enermax should work just fine when I get it probably sometime this week.

Hi there!

I have just bought a new motherboard ASUS A8N-SLI DELUXE.
I am interested in 2x512 dual channel fast memory with CL 2.5 or 2.
I found the ASUS memory qualified list but it says that the qualified kingston memory is KVR400X64C3A/512 with CL3. The list does not include the same memory with CL2.5

Does this mean that the faster kingston memory I can use has CL3?
Is it correct?

What about corsair?

What is the memory model that I should buy to be used as 2x512 in DUAL channel configuration with CL2.5 or 2?

Thanks in advance

I have CL2.5-version of that ram in use, works fine.

I'm going for hyperx cl2.5 512x2 DDR434, that's not in the list either.

If you don't overclock more than like, lets say 218mhzx11, kingston works with excellent quality at least. But I've heard good things about corsair for overclockers. I'd go for corsair, because of my needs.

I've been looking through this thread and I'm wondering if I should go ahead and order this MB for my new system.

What I'm looking to put together is:
Asus A8N-SLI Deluxe
Athlon 64 3000+
Corsair Value Select CAS2.5 1GB kit thing (the two 512 modules)
XFX GeForce 6600GT 128mb

I already have the drives I'll be using (I'm 'upgrading' my older BX133/Cel 1.2 system), a sound card I love (TB Santa Cruz), and all the rest (monitor, etc).

The two main things I'm wondering about are whether or not this board will work correctly out of the box and if my current 350W enermax PSU will drive it until an upgrade for the PSU at a later date since I'm not doing SLI or anything else that would be an insane power draw. I can wait for the overclock until all of the bios kinks are worked out, but I kind of want a system that works when the parts are delivered.

For the future, SLI and proc upgrades would be options so I'd like to get a PSU (if needed) that would take that into account.

TIA for any reflections...the PSU thing is a big one, and I figured this thread would be the best place to get opinions on it from other users of the board. OH, and money >IS< important so a lower cost/good PSU option if I need one would be appreciated. Phew...getting a bit excited about the new rig.

I posted this thread over in "what psu are you using w/a8n-sli". Of course it is just a small part of the problems that I'm experiening with this motherboard.

Anyone using an Antec NeoPower experiencing any problems? I sent mine in on an RMA because I thought it might be bad after a Seagate SATA crapped out. This happened before I even moved the PSU into new system w/A8N. It was runnin a MSI Neo2 Platinum. After installing the PSU into new setup with my ASUS board I experienced nothing but problems (this was runnin 1002 even). The system would boot but it was very weak and as soon as I put it under any load...reboot. I put the old PSU back in (a generic RaidMax 420) and the system runs great. The antec tech said that the PSU is fine and he's sending it back with a full test/voltage report.....I dunno, can't figure it out. ---- I don't want to keep the generic PSU running this system since it doesn't have very stable volts runnin, and for sure it won't hang once I get the second 6600GT.

Unfortunately I would rather sacrifice the OC for my stable RAID 0 setup with my Maxtors. I bought this Mobo because I was too impatient to wait for MSI to release its nForce4 SLI board and I'm regretting it ever since. At stock setting this board runs pretty well with 1002, and of course you know why i can't run anything other since it's impossible to keep my harddrives. I've used the BETAs with an old IDE Seagate 160 overclocking achievements can be reached but nothing compared to my old Neo2. Are any of you soooo fed up that you are looking to buy the gigabyte, or msi board. I expected to face one or two problems, but as the list grows so does my regret.

It is possible to run Maxtor Sata drives off of the Silicon Image contoller and still run whatever bios you would like. I did this for a while runnin and "decent" OC about 2.52. I noticed though, that the nforce controller runs the Sata drives better and faster that the silicon image, it is definitely evident when bechmarking. Mine showed about 12mb/s runnin 1002 for each test. Anyway, just a little note incase anyone is willing to make that leap.

With dual die CPU's the next "thing" and looking at SMP SLI I'd get the the most power supply you can afford.
