So are all 8 of the SATA ports locked to 33 PCI Bus frequency when overclocking? I know this was an issue on the MSI Neo2 Platinum and you fixed it by using SATA ports 3&4 and disabling 1&2 and using a PCI SATA card if more SATA slots were necessary. Is this issue fixed on the Nforce4/A8n-SLI?

Thanks,

Y2J

So I've been reading the posts for awhile now and have got my system setup. It's running without any errors, and I've got the RAID functioning just fine. I've run into one major issue though. I did a direct install of Windows XP with Service Pack 2. I can't get any of the onboard USB 2.0 ports to work as USB 2.0. They're all listed as 1.1. Anybody have a similar problem? Any suggestions? I'm currently running the 1003 BIOS.

Thanks,

I've not had any problems getting the USB ports to be detected as USB2, although there is a driver for USB2 on the support CD it does it shouldn't be needed. XP SP2 (and pre SP2) should already have the USB2 drivers built in so you shouldn't need to install them.

The question I have for anyone that knows is this:

Is it possible to install a single PCI-E graphics card in the second slot? I know it makes sense to put it in the top slot so it doesn't block the PCI slot, but can you? Reason, I want to put the Zalman chipset cooler on but am sure the Leadtek 6800GT will get in the way. Anyone tried it?

PS: No new beta BIOS in a while, wonder what is holding them up.

Can someone please update me and explain something?

First of all I have the following:

A8n-Sli deluxe
amd 64 4000+ cpu
thermalright xp-90 heatsink
panaflo 92mm high speed cpu fan
2 gigs Corsair value select ram
Antec truepower 550watt eps12v 24 pin main power psu
Antec super lanboy mid tower case with 2 120mm case fans
generic dvd-rom and a cd-rw

I am using the 1003 final bios as well. Ok now can someone tell me if the ntune that came with the asus cd works with this mobo? If not can someone tell me where this "leaked" new version of ntune is? You know? Its the one thats supposed to be compatible with this board. And also, would I have to have the 1004 bios beta to make it work?

Please someone help? And also, if I use the ntune I have now would it be able to tweak the memory settings? I'm new to tweaking and would like some advice on getting my new rig running at the utmost level of its capabilities.
Thanks all.

iscsidude,
Thanks bro...I appreciate the help....got it working after I realized the windows install was asking for the floppy at the "s" prompt, however I think I still need to re-install as it (windows) is saying the second raptor isn't allocated, however nvidia reports raid 0 healthy....strange install...it seems that windows doesn't combine both drives when asking what drive to partition...why doesn't it recognise both drives as being one?, this might be where user error is playing a role? I hit f6 but it continues on to f2 prompt....up to the point it asks for drivers for mass storage....windows after both sets of drivers are installed see 2 74 gig drives....? At the f6 point it never stops to allow me to install the raid/ controller drivers?

Ntune works with motherboards retail bios right out-of-box to newest bios and newest ntune....But, I recommend to update to your bios for example to 1003 even if you wouldn't be using anything special. You can choose where to lock your PCIclock with newer bios, and that is nice if you want to use ntune.

2nd option, you may use old bios if you truely desire but by choosing from your bios to your memory fsb to be 201, PCIlock will be locked too. You should read this thread a bit more before asking tho..

Good luck

Thanks. That was a good read. Just received the NV5 and it now comes with two PCI brackets. One for the Dual DVI/S-Video and one for the exhaust. I see it is simply a matter of unscrewing the old double wide bracket and replacing it with the new ones. I'm thinking this is the "Revision 2" of the NV5 as outlined on the Arctic-Cooling web site.

Apparently, they got the message.

Arbor,
If Windows is showing a drive with 140GB, and NVRAID (F10) at startup, is showing healthy, then it is allocated correctly.

What you have is one stripe set with 70GB x 2 drives.

You've essentially let NVRAID manage the drives and everything you do on them will now appear like one big drive.

F6 prompt takes about 2 minutes (yes, after F2 prompt) before you are prompted for the diskette and resulting "S" prompt.

Sounds like you have it running correctly. Again, as long as it appears as a single 140GB drive.

Cronic,
I don't think even a custom WB would work on the A8N chipset. There just isn't much room!! It may be possible to squeeze one in, I'm just not going to bother unless the chipset fan goes belly-up. All I remember about the video WB is that is a SwifTech model, don't remember the number. I do know that SwifTech only has 1 that'll work. Last night I removed the SwifTech video WB from the EVGA Ultra's. I wasn't happy with them. There are 8 other chips that need cooling on that board and I want to cool them, the stock cooling system seems better than the WB. Little more noise, but I can live with it - it's really not bad and I think the card cooling is much better. Could probably go with TweakMonster passive chip coolers but I am hesitant to permanently glue them to the chip. These boards are way too expensive in case I have to RMA them.

On to other A8N issues. In the past I was having LOTS of problems, I even posted a lot of these issues on this forum. I was running dual Asus 6800 boards. I returned these boards and purchased 2 EVGA 6800 Ultra's. Installed them, and this system is now error free. Even the BIOS hanging problem is gone!!

Wonder if this Asus A8N board is extremely sensitive to PCI video boards?? Seems strange that I was experiencing so many of the same problems that others are experiencing, made no other changes but switch video boards and now have a rock solid stable system!!! I'm running the 67.66 (?? i'm going from memory) beta drivers. Again, I made NO changes but install the EVGA 6800 Ultra's. All I did was turn the system off, remove the Asus 6800's, put in the EVGA 6800 Ultra's and started it up - that was it. Been 1 week now and absoultely no problems!!

I looked at my USB in Device Manager. I have two hubs according to this, both with 10 ports. All the devices are on one. This is recognised by Sandra as USB 1. The other (with no devices) is seen as USB 2. Deleting them both makes no difference, they come back as before.

This would seem to be a BIOS issue, and I'm also half-convinced this is why I'm getting BSOD's with USB errors when I try to OC.

I'll probably try the empty CMOS trick this weekend and see if that clears it.

With the A8N-SLI delux motherboard do i need to purchase a network adapter to connect to the internet?

When i use xp to set up a network connection for ADSL I am only able to create a 1394 connection and not a local area network, it tells me that network is already configured.

I enabled the LAN options in bios.. or am i missing something?

SuperJ00,
If memory serves, (no pun implied) others were having problems with Corsair Value RAM memory with this Mobo.
Seems like it was about twenty pages back. I'd start around page 40.

Also, PSU's have been a big issue. 20+ Amps on the 12V rail seems to be a "meets min" for many. Since you appear to be running NON-SLI, this may not be your problem at all. Just keep it in your mind as you go forward.

Unless the "Dell 2005FPW" is a power supply, I'm not sure what you're using.
Come to think of it, if it is your Power Supply, I still have no idea what you're using.

You are missing a LOT!

Your board has 2 LANs (depending on whether or not the drivers are installed).

1394 is not a LAN adapter. It is listed as a network adapter in Windows, but it is not ethernet and will therefore not help you connect to the Internet.

The only other thing I can suggest for you is to read the manual.

Not that I've seen. I'm running the latest beta bios (1004.001) and I seem to be topping out at 250x9, with 2-3-3-6 1T timings on my RAM.

This bios also makes my Maxtor NON-NCQ drive disappear for some reason. Still not reverting to a previous bios, though. Screw it, I'll just grab it's twin outta my PowerMac G5 and make a RAID 1 array out of em on the Sil3114 controller till Asus gets off their ass and releases a less-janky bios that can improve/fix these 2 remaining niggles.

Hi from me as well,

I have been reading this thread alot lately and have a question of my own.

I have the latest beta bios 1004-006 (i think, latest anyway).

With it I am running my Winie 3000 at 240 FSB all fine but I am having problems with the RAM.

I have 2 x 512 Corsair XMS XL (2-2-2-5 timmings at PC3200), even with loosening the timmings in the bios, giving 2.8V and setting it to 1:1, when ever I boot it boots the cpu to 240 FSB, and the ram with a divider so at 240 the RAM runs at CPU/14=154 Mhz...

Same with 230 FSB, and will ONLY boot on 1:1 on 220 FSB, and then it still says CPU/9 which happens to be 220...

Any ideas??? Ive tried letting it to AUTO as well, but same thing. HOW CAN I SAY THE MOBO THAT I DONT WANT A DIVIDER????

Your help will be highly appreciated guys, and sorry if this has been posted again.

Hi I have a problem with my new setup, on my first powering up my Asus A8N SLI Deluxe motherboard wont POST. When I powerup, I get some bleeps, motherboard, keyboard and floppy get green led's, but my monitor stays on orange led. I dont see anything on the monitor. No POST. Then about 15 seconds later it boots and restarts this process, repeated over and over.

I think this is down to 4 possible poblems:

1. My power supply might not enough? Its Enermax 450 W (rated 431W) at 12 V it is 20 A. This should be sufficient however there might be problems with it as it might have been causing problems with my old pc. Also I am using a 20-24 pin connector to the motherboard as its an old 20 pin model.

2. I am using generic RAM (1gb). This is plugged into the blue slots. Possibly the RAM is in some way damaged so not causing POST to happen?

3. My AMD CPU (3500+) is in some way dead. However, wouldnt POST still happen if this was the case?

4. My motherboard is in some way dead. Therefore POST does not happen?

Can anyone rule out these options? Or give any advice on what might be causing the problem.

My specs:
ASUS A8N-SLI Deluxe motherboard (cant tell you bios as cant even POST)
Enermax 450 W PSU (old model)
Asus SLI 6800 GT 256mb graphics card
AMD 64 3500+ CPU
2x512 RAM memory (generic)
WD Raptor 72 gb hard drive
Maxtor 40 gb IDE hard drive
SB 1024 soundcard
Windows XP

Much appreciated
