Hey, im new posting here but have been reading these forums for advice for a while now
My hardware is in my sig, my problem is with the CPU's temps. Theyre insane.
Since i got my new RAM ive been trying to OC somewhat, cause thats why i paid $40 extra for a winnie. The RAM is rated for 2.5-4-4-7 1T at DDR500 for up to 3.1v
I was able to boot fine with 240 HTT, 3x at 1:1 (DDR400 setting)
What i noticed with Asus Probe was, my temps were somewhat high for a winnie considering i was using as5 and a good HSF, idling at about 45C and hitting 57C prime95. prime95 errored out with some roudning error after about 5 min, subsequent testing showed it wasnt the RAM. i upped the voltage to 1.45 and later 1.475 (which turned out to just give me 1.5). The first lengthened my prime95 run to about an hour, the second one hit 66C and just scared the crap out of me so i killed it. I took off the HSF, cleaned it well with arcticlean, put the small dab of as5 on and did the twist thing with it. with no OC, my temps are currently 40C idle and 48c prime95. Thats still much higher then what i think it should be... anyways i just want a way to hit 2.6ghz and run 1:1 with my RAM, and not kill the thing. Ill go up to 1.5v, no further, i have to keep this thing for a while. but im afraid to try 1.5 again as i dont think 66C was a good thing (i bought a winchester, not a prescott)
any advice on how i can keep a stable 2.6 without cooking this damned thing?
-D

Recommend the DFI (or any other brand) if this is a concern for you

My available Vcore settings on my Asus A8N SLI-Deluxe go up to 1.65, not 1.55. That was true with every BIOS I've used.

That's because you're using a Newcastle and not a Winchester. Winchester is limited to 1.55 volts.

After a month and a half of delays I finall have all the parts I need.
Setup went pretty smooth considering a few minor bugs I've encountered.

I have all my HDs (PATA) connected to the NvSATA via Koutech ASA150D PATA-SATA bridge.
Three work fine.
My WD400BB-00CLB0 is not recognised when the computer boots. But if I connect the SATA cable after the PC has finished POST it is. I can reboot and everything just as long as I do not power down.
Funny thing is this does not occur on the SiI controller.
Not a major prob, I just find that odd.

Secondly is my Toshiba PCX2600 Cable Modem and the onboard ethernet ports.
When I plug the cable modem into either ethernet port it should automatically be configured by the modem but it does not. If I reset the modem (unplug/replug) the LAN configures fine.
Again, not a prob, I just find that odd.

Thirdly, I have a Creative Labs Dxr3 (a repackaged Sigma Designs REALmagic Hollywood+)(hardware mpeg2 decoder) that I use to play DVDs. Unfortunatly after I install the drivers and restart windos gets a BSOD just as it is booting. I noticed other were having trouble with their TV tuner cards, probably related. Whis I could get it working.

Also, there is a 'Unknown device' listed in device manager and I nor windows can not figure out what it is.

I have dabbled a little in OCing it but not much to talk about.

Anyway, I'm fairly satisfied this build.

The Unknown device is probably the Marvel LAN. You can install a driver via Windows Update or through Device Manager.

My system setup is:
AMD 64 3200+
A8N-SLI Deluxe
Corsair 1GB (2X512mb) XMS memory
Gigabyte 6600GT Pci-e
Hitachi 160gb sata
Creative Sound Blaster Live
Pioneer 16X Dvd-r drive.
Enermax 535W Sli ready

Hey i just bought all these new parts from zipzoomfly (not including the sound card) and I set up the system and had it working fine. I installed windows and i experienced really bad opening sound. Once i was in windows i was trying to set up drivers with the asus cd and then all of a sudden windows shut down and then the computer shut down and now it won't boot. I've tried all combinations even with just a video card n memory and even without them... I get no beeps either. It just starts and all fans run but the computer will not boot/Post... any ideas?? thanks

@Mariosalice
thnx for your input but it is already listed.

My hollywood+ card is now working. I had to change boot.ini to /NoExecute=AlwaysOff (not a good thing to do, I know). And i had to uninstall NvIDE drivers to get the software to access the DVD drives correctly.

Starting with all the usaul suspects,
#1 the battery is good I don't think that would cause this but you never know.
#1a have you removed the CMOS jumper and let it sit 2 minutes to clear it? You must do this if you change system settings.
#2The fan connnector on the CPU port is connected corrrectly
#3 the 4 pin 12v(square) connector is plugged in
#4 the main power connector is plugged correctly, , I don't you would imagine you would mot have gotten that far ayway if you had not.
#5 you have the memory in dimm slots a1 and b1 (blue i think I don't have my puter in front of me) or !_!_ not !!_ _
#6 The HSF was securly mounted, if you did not use the stock one did you use thermal interface compound such AS5? >bad things may have happened. I would say a processor could fry in several minutes if it was not.
#7 Keyboard is plugged in correctly/ working.
#8 pray to what ever god you use in particular. I personally is situations like this pray to them all.
If after all that, and I reccomend you do 8 regardless check your power supply, even though it should be ok, i am trying to find a post with a similiar situation i read if I find it I will repost. I know for sure that person had a enermax PS which should have been fine but was not. Did you add any other old hardware like a CD drive or 3.5?

I know the frustration many of us are experiencing with this MOB, specially after 1-2 weeks of getting no where and 2 or 3 thousand dlls later ughh, so I wanted to share some of my experiences with this MOB too.
At the beginning I was not even able to post or boot to the BIOS I had no video at all. All fans and internal components were powered on, but no video either thru DVI or VGA. I removed all accessories/cards and left only the basics (VC and memory) but no go. After a few days I read somewhere that every time you remove or change something internally you need to clear the CMOS (some how the MOB gets locked) so I did that and BAM !!! I finally got some BIOS video. The main offenders though were an old CD drive and the PSU. I removed the CD player but still I was getting PC hangs or no boots. I had an Enermax 550 watts power supply ATX EG-651P-VE (20 pin with 24 pin adapter ATX V. 1.3) it should have done the job ok but apparently it didn?t. I replaced it with an Enermax Coolergiant EGP 480AX, 480-watts ATX V.2.0 and so far no power problems any more. I think due to the fact it is designed as an ATX 12V v2.0 MOB, featuring a 24-pin power connector and dual 12-volt rails coming from the power supply it is better to stick to that to avoid the guessing.
After no more hardware/power problems, one of the first things I did was to upgrade the BIOS to the latest non-beta release, which is 1003. Then I did a fresh install of XP Pro on my SATA RAID 0 drives and make sure to have XP SP2 installed. After all that, install the latest NVIDIA chipset drivers and then NVIDIA Force Ware drivers (get them directly from ASUS downloads) in this same sequence install them.
Once all device drivers have been installed, proceed to install device drivers for any other components.
One week so far and working like a champ (about 10 hrs every day)!!! It?s fast ? fast - fast I?m glad I didn?t give up too soon.

My Specs:
A8N-SLI DLX.
Antec aluminum DLX case
AMD 64 3800+ with stock AMD heat sink and fan.
Mem - PC3200 DDR400 Mhz CMX Corsair (4 sticks 1 Gig each).
Enermax Coolergiant EGP 480AX, 480-watts ATX V.2.0 (24 Pin)
1 NVidia GeForce 6800 GT SLi type VC (I?m going 2 VC next week !)
2 SATA WD Raptor HD 74 Gig
SB Platinum Audigy ZI 2
Sony dual layer DVD burner combo.
ATI TV/tuner recording card
DVI Apple cinemadisplay
here found it, search this forum for "no post"
enermaxs from what i understand are nice PSU's so i am not sure what to tell you, it may have been something else like old hardware xp did not like. I would reset the bios and find a another IDE drive and start over.

hey i actually had orginally and old floppy which was not letting the motherboard boot... the fans would go on for 1 sec n shut off. after i figured out that was the culprit i hooked up a different floppy n it started working... but ive tried without the floppy as well.. i've basically tried every single thing u mentioned.. im thinking about rma'ing everything besides the case and trying to start from scratch.. any other ideas? i just dont understand how it could stop working after just removing a sound card....

did you try reseting the CMOS after each reconfig, that is critcal from what I understand otherwise the system won't boot. I would pull the jumper out wait a good ten minutes then try it. I did that with mine when I was setting up the RAID and did not do it correctly i did not want to take any chances as I had plugged the drives into the controler.

It could be the battery. I have only had my board for 2 months and my battery died on me. My CMOS kept on resetting itself at boot up. I replaced the battery and have had no problems since. The battery might be one of the problems.

Hi everybody,

I finally got my rma'd a8n-sli and it booted !!!!!

Ok, now which bios would you guys recomend ? 1.04 or 1.06 ??
I won't have any sata drives & won't use onboard sound. see sig for specs..

I'm trying for one of the following oc's:

HTT = 4x(872), mem= 236, 11x multiplier = 2.6ghz or
HTT = 4x(960), mem=240, 10x multiplier = 2.4ghz

Thanks for the advice.

Regards,
Jose

Okay, I'm new to building and I don't want to read the entire thread as I have solved all but one problem with my mobo. It powers down sometimes and it seems it has to do with networking although I'm not sure. It used to do this more often with the initail bios but now that I run 1006 things a better but not perfect. It's not a blue screen but a turn off and right back on. I bet someone somewhere on this thread has solved this, I'm just trying to save myself a few hours of time here. Any help is much appreciated.=)

...at the top the forum guide there is a little box that says search.....

sounds like bad memory or bad power supply I would imagine it depends on how often and when it happens. Are you getting any IRQ messages etc more info would be helpful....

1) kill the overclock and run with stock settings first...
2) go to nvidia site and download latest nf4 drivers (6.53?)
3) which lan port r u using (Nvidia or marvell?).. try switching to the other

More than likely psu or memory related as steamnputer suggests... but I thought I saw that they made some changes with the ethernet lan drivers with the latest nforce4 release...so worth a shot....
