System specs

A8n-sli
(2) 74Gig WD raptors not raid SATA
(1) 250 Gig WD 7200 SATA
4 Gigs CORSAIR 2G(2X1G) Twinx2048-3200c2 R
Athlon 64 4000+ SanDiego
Thermaltake Power Supply W0057 500W Modular
Pioneer 16X DVDRW-DL
1.44 Floppy
ATI X800XL 256Meg PCI-E
Windows XP Pro 64bit

I installed all the hardware, flashed the BIOS to 1008 and checked the settings.
All memory etc is set to AUTO, this machine is not getting overclocked.
First two times it booted it showed DDR400 but it froze in the BIOS while I tried to turn PEG off. After resetting a couple of times, it started running the memory at DDR333.
I manually set it back to DDR400 but the sytem would not boot and I had to clear CMOS to get it booted again.

Is there a problem running DDR400 with all the memory slots full or does it sound like there may be a defective memory module?

Any suggestions?
Thanks

got my new a8n-sli deluxe motherboard in a few days ago. i have been having problems with my two ethernet / lan ports (marvell and nvidia).

both are enabled, as well as their bootup roms, in bios (1008). i installed the nforce4 drivers from the cd as well as the marvell gigabit driver from the cd. i then connected the marvell lan port to my cable modem. couldn't get online. i then tried the nvidia port - still no success. i then connected my cable modem to my router and connected the router to the marvell - no luck. then tried router to nvidia port - still offline. the whole time network settings says that i have a local area connection cable unpluggled.

i then went back into the bios and disabled the nvidia lan. booted up xp and connected the marvell lan to the cable modem - can't get online. rebooted went back into bios and disabled marvell lan and enabled nvidia lan. booted up xp and connected nvidia lan to the cable modem - still no luck. again, network connections says a cable is unplugged.

finally i went back into the bios, enabled both lans, booted up xp and connected two ethernet cables from my router to both lan ports. success! this is the only way i am able to get online.

my question is why? i know there must be some way to get online my by connecting to only one lan port. why do i have to connect both? can someone please provide some assistance for me in clearing up this perplexing problem? thanks in advance.

how do I access options like cpu voltage and ddr voltage in the bios, I do not see it ANYWHERE lol. Am I missing something? I just got this board and my old abit had all kinds of voltage options and so forth. I am running the AI Booster utility and it has voltage options, where the hell are they in the bios and why cant I get to them. I swear I tried every menu option and it aint there!

sounds like there may be a defective memory module
SanDiego supports 4 dimms
Try manual setting 1T.
1T works for one sided Dimms only.

So im not the only one that finds Nvidia's built in nforce lan sucks ass?

When I download faster than 300 KB/s with nvidia lan it cuts itself off. I tried fiddling with the controller settings to no avail.

Btw, PEG settings are like auto overclocking options for video cards. I've disabled it for the sake of stability, though im not sure if it really makes a difference as Ive never seen it actually change my video card's clocks when set to auto.

yeah my Nvidia Lan blows :frown: i did a speed check and i have 5mb connection and was getting like 2mb to 3mb with it and was getting lots of loss with it in games

so i dissabled it and went with the Marvel Yukon and tested it got the full 5mb allmost and games run better now no lag

The PEG link mode does overclock on the video card. I have mine set on faster and it oc's my GF6600GT to 518@525 and it shows no stability issue.

So it overclocks slightly the core, what happens to the memory clock ?.-
What do you do about the other two options (PEG root control and PEG length buffer ) ?
Thanks

so i hit the Nvidia SLi fourm and seen like 5 threds with this same prob all linking it to Chipset fan and allso seen a few posts here with peeps haveing probs keeping the chipset cool too

i checked all my system all temps are low to normal but cant check the Chipset temp.i have read u can remove the fan and replace it with a better fan and most that have done this dont have any probs with the mobo

so my real question is it hard to remove and question 2 what is a good repalcement fan to keep the chipset cool

the motherboard temp is the actually the chipset temperature. you can go will a zalman passive heatsink but that may cause problems with dual slot video cards, or you can call asus and ask for a replacement fan, which is a better slower spinning fan.

I'm considering purchasing one of these boards for a new pc build. I see that on the ASUS site there is a small list of about 6 or 7 boards that work in the SLI mode. Are these the only boards that will work in SLI mode? Has anyone had luck using a pair of other video cards? Is there a list of other video cards that can be used?

The numbers I wrote were core clock@memory clock, sorry for the confusion. They are overclocked from default values(500 for core and 500 for memory).
The other to settings I don't know what they stand for.
When using bios 10 and previous the core was oc'ed to 526 but from 1011's and on they only oc to 518 maximun.

I'm suffering a lot of confusion about the nForce drivers. I originally installed version 6.53 and let it install all four of its components right after Windows XPSP2 was setup. I've Googled until I'm blue in the face, but I cannot find any definitive info on the IDE drivers, the pros and cons of installing, etc.

I used HD Tach to benchmark my non-RAID SATA drives and got 55MB/s sustained read and 116 MB/s burst. I then backed the drivers back to the MS XP drivers and the the sustained read improved by almost 20%, up to 65MB/s while the burst improved by 8%, up to 125MB/s.
That seems like a big advantage for the NON-nVidia drivers, but then someone told me that without the nVidia drivers, my SATA drives' NCQ capability is disabled.

I still have nVidia drivers on the PATA controller where my optical drives are connected.

1 -- what's better for NON-RAID SATA drives, the nForce drivers or the MS drivers???

2 -- why does the nForce driver package contain audio drivers??? There's no audio on an nForce4 chipset.

quik and shaga: the same "thing" happened to me last night. I heard a very extrange noise, when I opened the case I figured it out that the mb fan were speeding very very slow and making a very extrange noise. I did what shaga did, unplug and plug the mb fan connector and the noise had gone, and the fan was working fine again...but THIS IS VERY EXTRANGE, I could see the mb fan almost stopped before I unpluged the connector :/

BTW, I am using 1012 bios and it seems to works very well, I recently purchase a BGF 7800GTX OC and no problems for now.

I had 2 XFX 6800GT @ SLI before, but the new 7800GTX seems to be more stable

Ron: I am using latest 7.13 (don' t remember if are 7.13, they are 7.xx) nforce 4 drivers (you can google to find it) and everything is working OK.

personally, I have 2 SATA hard drivers, 1 WD 74 GB raptor and 1 SG Barracuda 160 GB and I always use the MS IDE drivers, when I install the drivers, I don't install the nvidia nforce IDE.

I don't understand what you mean about the sound, the nforce 4 chipet comes with onboard sound (you can disable it @ bios), I never installed audio drivers, cause I have an SB Audigy 2, I only install pure drivers refferent to the chipset.

I have a A8N SLI premium. ( i figure it's close enough to the deluxe version to post my question in this thread) I'm trying to iron out some bugs that i belive are related to the memory i'm using. I'm using 2 sticks of Geil PC3500 512 megs and 2 sticks of Geil PC3500 256 megs for 1.5 megs total in dual channel mode. I'm not overclocking the memory and i'm letting the mobo autodetect the settings for it.

The problem is freezing in windows. The biggest problem is with internet explorer. If i open up a web page and scroll up and down really fast the system freezes up. If i remove the 2 256 meg sticks the problem goes away. The timings are sligtly different on the 4 sticks but the default bios settings are looser than the sticks should be able to tolerate. I figured though that i'd up the CAS to 3 from 2.5. The system won't boot if i do that and the reporter keeps saying that there is a memory problem. I have to clear the CMOS to be able to boot. It seems strange that loosening the CAS would cause a memory problem doesn't it?

Is there a way to let it boot even if it detects a memory problem. It's a hastle to clear the cmos.

Thanks.
