guys, I think I know why some people experience with the memory problem. I used to have revision 1.12 and that gave me so much problem with the memory (even the one that's listed). Got an replacement board, revision 1.13 and so far, the memory has been working great.

Quick question regarding the K8V SE Deluxe....

It has four SATA ports, two VIA ones, two for the Promise RAID controller.

Can i hook up four SATA drives on there without RAIDing any of them though?

I have no interest in doing a RAID config, but i would like to add a couple more SATA drives if possible.

Anyone know for sure?

I have a AMD 64 3200+ and Asus K8V SE Deluxe motherboard along with a 200 GB Maxtor SATA drive. I am trying to install Windows XP Pro, but it does not detected the hard drive. What should I set my BIOS, and what spot should the SATA cable be in so that Windows will detected the hard drive? Also, do I need any extra floppy disks that would allow Windows to detect the hard drive? Thanks.

Here's what you have to do to get the XP Install to recognize your IDE controllers. Get on a computer and get the VIA and Promise drivers, either on the CD or DL them from Asus' site. In each of those directories is going to be a 'MakeDisc.exe' or something like that. Run it and make a floppy for each set of drivers. Make sure your BIOS recognizes the HDDs (as yours does) and first thing in the XP install, press F6. After loading some stuff, it will ask you for your drivers. Put in the first floppy (either one), press S and select the WinXP driver. It'll go back to the same screen, change floppies, press S, and select the other XP driver. Then continue and it SHOULD recognize your drives. Now, I set it up with an SATA drive and it WOULD NOT recognize it during install on the Promise controller, no matter what I tried. I even tried switching it to the Promise controller after XP was installed and Windows BSOD'd on boot, so I dunno what's up with that. So you may need to use the VIA controller if possible, I don't know if you can use PATA RAID on the VIA tho. But follow those instructions and you should be good.

Why not do some searching before you ask a question that's been answered a dozen times over Xeroxed? Good luck

I think my 12V is kind of low. According to Sandra, it's at 11.07V, and in the BIOS, it's about 11.64V. I only have a 300W Forton and will upgrade it to a more powerful one soon.

What PSU do you guys have and what are your voltage readings?

I have an Antec TruePower 430W and in Sandra it reads like 11.19V and in the BIOS 11.77V (Guess Windows reporting voltage isn't too accurate.......?). As far as PSU stability, Antec is rock-solid. I was using it to OC an Athlon XP 2500+ Barton before, and it stably took me to 3200+ and beyond. Antec I KNOW you can't beat for reliability and quality, and there are several other brands out there as well. From what I've seen though, Antec seems to be better priced.

Hi guys,

I'm new to this forum, and so far i haven't found an answer to my questions.
Maybe someone here can help me.

I have a K8V with that 1.004 beta bios installed, which is the latest i could find on the net.

- It seems i have 1 Mb less Ram under Windows than usually, 511 Mb instead of the
512 Mb that are installed. Is there any way to get that 1 Mb back?

- i use 333 CL2 Ram, and no matter what timings i use in the bios, bandwidth values
from sandra and pcmark are quite low even for 333, around 2200 Mb/s.
If i set Turbo mode in bios, that goes up to 2900, but the pc gets unstable.
Is there no middle-way?

Thanks for your help

I bought a complete PC:

AMD 3000+ 64bit
Sapphire Radeon 9800 Pro
Asus K8V Deluxe
1gb 3200 DDR RAM
Soundblaster Live 5.1
600w PSU

Put it all together, went to turn it on, nothing. Took it to a mates PC shop, changed PSU, nothing.
Get the green LED on, but thats it.

I have everything plugged in correctly, and my mate thinks its the mobo. DOA.

Wondering if the same problem has come up with anyone else, wondering about that faulty batch that was released, the problems with the power capacitors.

Anyways, any help would be much appreciated.

Try starting it without the case with bare minimum of hardware installed ie vid card, memory, keyboard.
If it still doesn't start get RMA, if it starts check your standoffs.

Don't forget to plug in the 4-pin 12V plug on the upper left side of the board. Also make sure you put the power sw plug into the power, not reset.

Please make sure you read the manual about the slots that can use pc3200 rams if you have more than one stick of RAM.

And BIOS (not beta) so far is 1003. download the bios and dos utility from asus.com
