I have a really irritating, albiet small problem. My motherboard's onboard sound drivers seem to cause the sound to be corrupt not only in a number of applications, but during the bootup speaking as well. Instead of saying "system now booting from operating system" like usual, I get two loud crackles and clicks instead. In doom 3, I get random clicks when walking around and strafing, when changing direction a lot. It goes click click click ca-click. Just repeated annoying clicks. Does anyone know a possible solution, or where I could read more about this to find out a solution?

Thanks for reading, dudes.

2 possible solutions come to mind

1) Disable Fastwrites under your video cards advance options
2) Enable PCI Delay Transaction in the BIOS

Other than that updating your drivers and whatnot could help.

Disable "Promise" something or similar

As to where it's located within the BIOS, I don't remember. Possibly under integrated onboard components or something.

Folks -
Just put this together last weekend ... worked like a champ and had winxp 64-bit running in less then 30 mins. Couple BIG pieces of advice before starting on a build:

* NEVER connect all your drives, cards, and accessories till the OS is installed. It always causes problems and may even give you bigger issues down the road. Stick with just your (1) hdd boot-drive, (1) cdrom, floppy, video, and onboard sound.
* Make sure to build the raid/sata boot disk w/ the windows drivers and have it ready to go when installed WinXP
* Make sure to check your sequences of boot devices - the SATA and PATA sequences and THEN your floppy/crom/hdd sequences

Everything worked fine till I tried to reflash w/ ezflash (not recommended)! (New Bios chip currently on its way home). Only issue is the software compatibility with winxp 64-bit is pretty poor!

I recently tried to update the BIOS on my K8V SE DX to v1004 and had an unpleasant experience (it failed). I have done this many times in the past without a problem on different motherboards ? I?m not exactly sure what went wrong this time but it may have been due to Asus? instructions, which aren?t terribly clear.

I used the AFUDOS method (hmm, I think I know what that stands for now ? this thing is definitely F U). It?s easy to make the boot disk and copy the other files to it, but what should the BIOS image be named? It is downloaded as K8VSEDX.004. When I copy it to the floppy, do I change the extension to .ROM or just leave it as is? Also, when performing the flash, do I type afudos /iK8VSEDX.004 or /iK8VSEDX.ROM?

Thanks for your help,
Alex

Hi dudes,

first of all,i want to say that my english ist not the best,
but i hope i'll explain you my problems as good as i can

sapphire 9800pro atlantis 256MB
2x Kingston 512MB DDR 400 RAM CL2

Windows XP Pro with embedded SP2
new drivers(4 in 1 hyperion,etc...)
bios 1004(mobo)
fast writing is on disabled mode( i thought this would kill the problem)

Ok, I've installed the system and wanted to check if everything is all right, but it wasn't

I've tested the system with the Game Pro Evolution Soccer 3 and
after a while I get a Bluescreen(thief 3 the same mistake)

I thought that the Ram would be the problem, but with the same ram (ram of my brother)

I am going to buy a A8V Deluxe from NewEgg but I want to make sure I fully understand how to update the bios and drivers for this mobo. On the Asus website, they don't provide any documentation at all for these steps.

First, is the A8V Deluxe BIOS 1007. When I unzip the file, it's a . AMI file extension. I have no clue what to do with this or how to install it.

The next item is the Afudos BIOS update tool V2.11. This is an .EXE file so I assume I just run the program. But what does it do exactly? Is this going to help me create a floppy disk to update the bios?

Ok, stupid question time. Assuming I get the bios downloaded and put on a floppy or whatever, how do I actually install it? Do I need to hit a key during boot up? Do I have to set the bios to boot from floppy? Keep in mind that I have zero experience with DOS.

Also, their drivers page has downloads for the Realtek AC'97 (audio) along with stuff from the Promise controllers, USB controllers, Cool and Quiet, RAID and other assorted stuff. Do I really need to download and install all of this stuff or should it work fine out of the box?

Slinky22-
The A8V is a different board then my K8V (which is being RMAd, along w/ the CPU, after a new BIOS chip from BadFlash didn't do the trick). However, typically, ASUS's afudos worked well with my A7V, A7V133, A7V133-C, and A7V333. Essentially, to use it, make a bootable disk (I used a Bootdisk.com image for DOS 6.0). Copy the AMI file and AFUDOS on the same disk. You will run the exe and ensure to first SAVE your existing BIOS file to the disk before uploading the 2nd one. AFUDOS was pretty good because it would actually write the old one, flash the chip then reflash it as a precaution. The K8V also has the ASUS Update that you can use (windows based) as and the SE-DX supports EZFLASH (Alt-F2 at boot) as it's latest BIOS is 1004 (K8V-DX is at 1008).

Regarding the drivers, yes they SHOULD work fine with the install. However, in WinXP 64-bit not all the devices on the board will be installed properly. So that's why you need the work-arounds specified in this forum.

Hope this helps.

So...would you consider this mother board the best for an AMD 64 bit 3200+ through 3500+? Or would you think that a K8n Neo2 platium is better?

Well folx, finally got EVERYTHING running! Dual booted Xp and XP64 on SATA. Latest Bios, Drivers (VIA, Marvell, etc). Once I got over the hardware issues (read old posts) it was just my nVidia GeForce FX that was causing me problems. Believe it or not, an unpgrade to WinXP Sp2 did the trick on the XP install, and an upgrade Via chipset driver did it for the XP64 install.

Final setup:

AMD A64 3200 NC CG
ASUS KV8 DX (v. 1.12, Bios 1008)
XP Pro Sp2 / XP64
512 MB Ultra DDR400
eVGA GeForce 5500 FX
Samsung 120 GB SATA
Western Digital 160 GB PATA
TDK DVD+/-R, MD CDRW/DVD

Thanks and cheers!

Hi folks -

I've gone through an captured all the inputs for the K8V-DELUXE 1008 BIOS and put them in a spreadsheet. I have found this useful in the past for tweaking etc. Could also be a nice way for you to pass settings and tweaks to other users.

Enjoy!

SuPrEIVIE - after years of doing flash utilities on floppies at boot, I've been converted to ASUS's online flash utility. You can download it from their site. Here is the link to the BIOS page http://usa.asus.com/products/m...754/k8v-d/overview.htm. But if you haven't ever done this before, I advise you do some reading up. You can end up with a mess on your hands in a hurry if anything goes wrong.

I am also having the same problem. The only difference is that I am using a K8V-X and that in my case the problem does not occur on every power-on, only some random times.

Another (unrelated) problem that I am having is that whenever I plug in a USB device, a high-pitched noise starts coming from the motherboard. As soon as I "stop" the device in Windows the noise disappears. The noise also does not come during the time when I am running Prime95 FFT Torture tests but it does come with Prime95 Blend Torture tests. Seems pretty strange.

System Specs:
Athlon 64 2800+
ASUS K8V-X
512 MB Kingston ValueRAM DDR400
32 MB SiS 315E graphics
60 GB Maxtor PATA 7200 RPM hard disk
16X LiteOn DVD-ROM
12X Plextor CD-RW
350W generic PSU
