CAN SOMEONE HELP ME!

i have the K8V SE deluxe and i just got a audigy 2 ZS and the card doesn't seem to go all the way in the slot? ( i am not suppose to see the gold plated connectors on the card at all once in the slot correct?because it can be seen) once i turn on the comp windowsXP did not recognize it so i am assuming it needs to go all the way in?

I don't know about the gold connectors, I can't remember if I can see them with the card installed.
You should look through the Device Manager under "System" in Control Panel, see if it has any unidentified hardware that might be your sound card. I'm assuming you haven't installed the Creative drivers, which you must have for the card to work. Check the Control Panel and see if the card is indeed being recognized, just not setup properly. If that is the case, pop in your CD and go. If it is not, we will pick up from there. And please (A) use better punctuation and (B) give us your system specs in as much detail as you can manage.

damn another problem! when i installed those dumb update drivers of the Audigy2 ZS, it ruined my BIOS settings!!! so i had to put everything how it was (the ones i remembered) when i went to the "onboard devices" section the Parallel port was disabled and i don't know what values to put in, inevitably my printer cannot communicate with the comp

does anyone know the best values to put in for parallel?

also how do you know if the audigy2 ZS drivers were updated (like where to look to confirm?)

thanks in advance!

oh yea the specs (i gotta make a sig of this...)

hmm....restore BIOS to default settings? Don't see why that wouldn't put your parallel port back to default values. you could also pull the CMOS battery
If not, get back to me and I'll check my BIOS settings

SuPrEIVIE, Can't you just select the reset to default bios settings when you're in bios? Unless the drivers somehow erased the bios's default setting as well.

It seems incredibly odd that driver updates would reset your BIOS. However, here are what should be the default parallel port settings:
378
Normal
IRQ7

I don't remember what headings these were under, but when you get to the port settings these will be the three parallel settings in the correct order. GL

To update your creative drivers go to www.soundblaster.com, click on the support link at the top, then click on software autoupdate. This will install all the latest drivers and programs for your card, but you have to remember to install the drivers off the cd first.

I'm running the K8VSE Deluxe with a 3200+ processor. My 12v rail on my PSU (350W Antec) is consistently around 11.8. Is that okay? I thought I remembered reading something that said it was better to have a consistent reading than fluctuations.

Thanks!

That sounds just fine. Is it a regular Antec, TruePower, SmartPower, what? Also, what are the rest of your specs. The only reason you would need to suspect your power supply for problems if you are having random reboots or lockups, esp if you have a high end video card or are overclocking. Otherwise, you're good to go.

Well, 49 pages of issues and problems lead me to wonder if I should even consider this board. If you had it to do all over again, would you? If not, which board would you get instead?

I got mine as a really good EPP deal, so I can't comment on getting it again.
If you're going Athlon 64 now, it is definitely worth your money to go to Socket 939. They now have inexpensive 939 CPUs (A64 3000+ & 3200+ Winchester core) and the S939 boards are not much more than the S754. Either way, my money goes to MSI. For socket 754, go with the K8N Neo Platinum. For S939, go with the K8N Neo2 Platinum. NFORCE3 all the way!!

It's actually the SmartBlue 350W that came with the Antec LanBoy. I also noticed that the reading is actually 11.648 through Asus Probe. I forgot the number when I originally posted at work.

You know there are 2 different SATA connectors so you can have 4 SATA discs ,2 VIA and 2 Promise?Made that mistake myself but couldn't install WXP to the SATA anyway...not much help maybe.

Flashed my BIOS to the 'new' 1005 on my Asus K8VSEDX ,before I used the 1003 BIOS and OC'd my 3000+ to 2.2GHz stable with semi agressive tímings (2.5 2 2 5).The flash went ok but when I now OC it will not work that well.It can't take the same agressive timings on the RAM and when it failures the post I'll have to clear cmos, never had to do that before ever.

Also downloaded the Beta Bios 1005.006 and loaded it in the Asus update utility. There u see what bios you got and the new and the release date and time were a perfect match between the 2.Beta and release seems to be the same...

Haven't figured out how to use Afudos wich is required to flash with an earlier bios version ,Asus support says you'll have to use it in DOS mode and don't know how that's done in Win XP.Do you?

regamax - I have been using the ASUS update util since I got my board up and running and can go up/down on BIOS revs and everything runs great (including beta bios).
pimrs - my first guess is that you may not have the sequence setup right on your bios for booting. Make sure you have the drives setup in the HDD setup and then make sure its in the boot sequence setup.

Tough question. I have always loved ASUS but now, if I had to do it again, I would go w/ the MSI. It has a PCI/AGP lock and seems to be much more stable at OC levels then the ASUS (w/o the PCI/AGP lock the ASUS just can't keep up).

Tough my board is read stable and my setup rock hard, I think I may be missing a little something on it...

edit : there are plenty of newer versions dowloading the lastest build right now.Thank you jerdubois for your input

In the asus update tool dropdown menu I had to choose 'Options' to be able to make a bios downgradable. Now we're up and running again.Nice.

I just received a K8V SE Deluxe and AMD 3400+ from my son for Christmas )).
I upgraded from an A7V333 (with Promise SATA Raid card). Everything is working great. The onboard RAID even recognized my old raid partitions and XP repair got me up and running without a reinstall (I was amazed).

My question...
I am still using the Kingston ValueRam PC2700 memory from the old system. I'm sure that's limiting my performance (d'uh). Reading this site, the OCZ EL and Kingston Hyperx seem to be the leading contenders (even though neither is on Asus' memory list ).
Is one of these better than the other for raw speed -- or, should I just go with a gig of Kingston's ValueRam (2x512 is about the same price as 512 of the Hyperx) because the performance difference just isn't worth it?

If it makes a difference, CPUZ tells me that I have rev 2.0 of the MB and that I'm running v1004.006 BIOS.

Thanks!

Welcome to AT!

There's a couple things to note about memory with the A64: since the A64 has an integrated memory controller, it thrives on low latencies. Usually the "value-ram" doesn't run at low latencies. I would recommend finding some PC-3200 RAM that runs at 2-3-2 latencies, as the 2-2-2 memories are much more expensive. Unless you plan on overclocking a lot (which isn't much of an option with this board), 2-3-2 will be plenty sufficient. Any of the major name brands will work well. OCZ is the shiznit, but you will pay for it Also look at Crucial Ballistix and Corsair XMS for the higher quality stuff. GL
Oh, and as far as the clock speed difference, you will probably see some difference in performance between even value 2700 & value 3200. My recommendation: PC-3200 2-3-2 from a good brand name. I don't recommend skipping on quality, esp with memory.
