Hey,
I overclock my board to 11X220 with the 3200+ and default voltage. What's the default voltage to these 3200+ chips any way?

So this is my first build.

Towards the end of my Windows XP installation, (Windows XP page with status bar) my machine reset. After booting back up, I was given the option to start windows back up in safe mode, last good configuration, normal, etc. No matter what option I select, my machine resets after reaching the Windows XP page.

Any ideas?

Tried different memory settings and DIMM locations to no avail.

System specs:
K8V SE Deluxe
AMD 64 3000+
1 GB (2x512) Mushkin 3200
Saphire X800 pro
PSU 400 Watts
60 GB SATA (loaded drivers from disk)

Please help!

Are you using XP sp-1?

And I saw somewhere that USB devices may have some effect on an XP installation , If you have one or the other in USB , you could try a PS2 mouse or Keyboard just to get it installed and then switch back after.

I also saw somewhere that some front panel USB hookups have caused problems , unhook these and any hubs till after install.

this may not be your problem , but I did read a problem very much like this solved this way.

Good luck!

I got this board with the EPP retail deal a few weeks ago and its driving me nuts. I have tried two different sticks of ram, 2 different bios, changed all PCI cards around to no avail. I can't get Prime95 to run for more than 5 minutes without a hard lock or a blue screen saying its beginning a memory dump. It ran just fine for about 3-4 days and I encoded a few dvds just fine. But, slowly it had started locking up and I have even had problems getting through the bios. It didn't seem all that stable even when installing windows as it locked up a few times before I could even enter my cdkey or other early options. Anyone have any ideas?

Well, the past few days I could at least get to Prime95 before it died, but now it can't even fully load into Windows. It does this with 2 different sticks of RAM, one PC3200 and one PC2700. Since it doesn't look like the ram, I called the tech support and they are cross shipping (with my CC number of course) a new bundle and I will send mine straight back to them. Hopefully this next one will work better than this POS... I will let you know how that one goes.

Hi guys,
I am knowledgable about computers though, or so I thought before I built my amd 64 machine. I have the K8v SE Mobo from Asus and there is a metal plate on the bottom, where the heatsink retainer clips screw into. Due to this, the mobo can't sit flush on the case (my case) and it bends, therefore my PCI Wifi card can't plug in. Please help me!!!
Thanks,
Kishan

Don't you have the offsets screwed into the case to mount the motherboard on. The offsets that came with my case work just fine for me.

They are usually gold and screw into the case where the motherboard goes. Then, screw the motherboard down onto these offsets. Each motherboard is a little different and you might need to add offsets so it matches your board. Hope this helps

hey jonny13........i might have a similar problem as you.

first of all before i talk about the problem........the colorcoded "panel" pins that are supposed to be "foolproof" are upside down so i can't follow the guide. So i went by the picture and i got everythign working except the PowerLED which does work......just that it dosen't work on this mobo. the powerled of my case is 2 pin connector and for some reason the mobo manual says 3 pin.

2nd.......my computer was running fine for one day. mobo&cpu i got off the retail epp deal.
have 2 k-byte pc-2100 256mbx2 sticks, 1 160gb ata hdd. and a fx 5200 video card.
today all of a sudden i got the blue screen and i had to reboot the computer. then on boot it said overclocking failed (i can understand that it failed cuz i have cheap ram....but i need to know how to disable overclocking).....but after it goes past that screen i get a quick glimpse of the bluescreen and the reboot process repeats.

anyone know what might be happening

Hello,

I just sucessfully installed Win XP on K8V (not delux) motherboard after having problems with Widows XP not finding a HDD to install on. I was installing Win XP onto a single SATA drive. I thought I would post this as it seems a common problem and was driving me crazy.

This is what I did:

make a floppy image of the Promise 378 SATA drivers AND the VIA RAID SATA controller from the m/b CD (using the makedisk utility). I put the two sets of drivers on 2 seperate floppies.

Then F6 when installing Win XP to add SCSI/RAID drivers

When prompted insert floppies with drivers. I did Promise SATA driver then the VIA RAID driver but I'm sure order is not important.

Then continue the install. I was also prompted for the VIA drivers later on in the install too - and re-inserted that floppy.

NOTE: even though I am not running my SATA drive as part of a RAID array I still needed the VIA RAID SATA drivers - the Promise SATA drivers alone were not enough!

Hope this helps !

brief system overview

K8V motherboard
AMD 64 3000 CPU
Hitachi Deskstar 70 GB SATA HDD
512 MB Corsair XMS memory

I wouldn't even attempt it.

It MAY work , but it just is not worth the trouble if it doesn't , you'll be looking at everything else but the PSU for stuff like restarting , locking up , funky fan readings crap like that.

If your gonna go with a powerfull board chip and Video card , you should IMHO over power it like I did with a 550Watt.

OR

You can get a 430Watt tru power Antec at newegg for a good price or even at Comp USA for that matter , this is as low as I would try to go.

You can however save the money you spend on the PSU on RAM by buying 3200 at Crucial , its semi cheep ram but it performs very well on this board , just use the motherboard ram finder on their main site , it shows the ram they tested with any certian board. And then down the road upgrade the ram to better stuff.

You may NOT be able to run it on the overclocked settings though till you do , but its plenty fast enough anyways.

good luck

Just my opnion BTW some opnions may differ. =)

430w is overkill - in many systems 300 is more than enough - the k8v is a great board you just need to help it along because its picky about ram - with the installation of xp all you need is the via sata raid drivers - no promise nothing else - and press f6 to install it

i have found that if you are using both keyboard and mouse on usb it doesn't work till it is on a new bios - so if you are installing new - use a ps2 converter to get thru the installation - because i was wondering why f6 was working alot of the times

back to the power issue - at the moment 300w is more than plenty for most systems - at the moment i am running a kv8 with a 3200 - sb audigy - one cd/rw/dvd drive - a pny ti4200 - 1 seagate hdd - and i am upgrading to a 6800 gt any day now - read up on some posts - power supply overkill has defeintely been one of the biggest things peopel do - just get a good quality ps with good efficiency and you are good to go for amny cases -

Thanks SouthernComfort... Yea, I'm pretty much doing a motherboard/cpu swap... I already have the video card, and several 512mb sticks (mostly kingston.. wish me luck) sitting around that i wanna try before buying other ram.... I guess my main focus will be a powerful antec or sparkle power supply right now.... sigh... my computer/entertainment system is almost 2000 watts when you consider the whole thing (computer, speakers, receiver, monitors, projector, etc). I guess that's what you get for goin above and beyond.
