I do run into the problem with geil's memory (value ram pc3200 512mb). When I put the memory into the slot 1 (blue one), my computer will boot but I cann't install windows, windows will load all the drivers but when it restarts and start to install, computer will freeze with error.
I then put the memory on slot 2, then I can install windows fine. Kinda strange
I wonder does anyone has the same problem. Also, I am thinking of adding another ram in the future but if the geil is not working on slot 1, do you guys think I should replace geil's memory for some other brand?

I did have a weird problem like that but it ended up being the HD I had connected to the secondary IDE slave! I disconnected it and Windows installed correctly. Once installed, I reconnected the drive and Windows detected it and runs fine. Drive is a 160GB Maxtor. Weird.
I have heard that Geil is a problem brand for these boards.

Can anyone suggest or point me to a reference for what BIOS settings one should use to take advantage of ECC memory? I have it, and I really want to make the most of it. In particular, what should the scrub settings be set to? Many combinations of the ECC options that I have tried through guesswork result in system instability.
thanks a lot for the info. I was wondering the same thing too. Read so many people have problem with ez flash, makes a bit afraid to flash the bios. Now I know what to do properly. I read that this bios does not fix anything just add support for cpu, may not worth the flash. Anyway, still thanks for the info.Originally posted by: FunkierThanU

Step 1: Forget EZ Flash
Go to bootdisk.com and download 'Dr DOS Disk For Bios Flashing'. Run it to create a bootdisk. Download both the BIOS update (which you have) and the " Afudos BIOS update tool V2.07" unzip and copy them onto the boot floppy you just made.
Reboot, go into your BIOS setup and make sure your PC's BIOS is set to boot from the floppy first, save the BIOS settings, and fire it up. At the DOS prompt type
AFUDOS i/K8VSEDX.003
and you should be on your way. Once you are done, go back and set your boot order back the way it was.
I've never liked those things that update the BIOS from anywhere but DOS.
edit:
Whoops, forgot the Nick Burns 'Your WELCOME!'

There's your first mistake.
I won't put in an MS SP for a couple months after the _Official_ release. They're usually buggy enough. You actually put in one of their betas and were hoping for a stable machine? What are you? Insane?!
The bios updating hanging was just the icing. Sucks.
Good luck.
