Ive had my m2n-e for over a month and everything seems to run close to perfect on stock settings. The only thing i have overclocked is the "AI- overclock to 8% and im very happy with my comp.

I wanted to know if anyone can get "Cool & Quite" to run on this mobo? Cause i cant but maybe because i have AI booster installed?

Three steps required:

Install AMD CPU driver.
Enable Cool & Quiet in BIOS.
Set Power Scheme in Display Properties->Screensaver=>Power to minimal power management.

You might as well uninstall AI Booster becaus AFAIK it cannot be made to run if Cool & Quiet is enabled in BIOS.
You could try the AI Overclock in BIOS if you've been using AI Booster for that.

Yeah, if you've got the right RAM, some luck, and you update the BIOS, you should be able to run okay with an OC of less than 10%.

By the way, I just wanted to let you guys know that the BSODs I've been getting on shutdown are actually due to the current version of ZoneAlarm Pro that I'm running. The theory is that it has conflicts with Windows' VPN... At least it's not the hardware, though...

Just wanted to add my problems with the M2N-e:

After mucking around with different IDE cables and master and slave combinations i have somehow managed to get this board to not boot at all.
When i first set it up i wanted to boot off the CDROM so i could install a fresh winXP. The board would refuse to boot off the CDROM regardless of the boot order i set in the BIOS. So i cracked my case open and double checked the IDE cables. Unplugged them, checked the jumpers, and plugged them back in. Now when i try and boot off of any device i get a flashing cursor after the IRQ list. nothing after that. I've tried resetting the CMOS and that didn't work. I'm thinking maybe i shorted something out when i was switching cables. That's the only explanation i can come up with at this point. Stumped.
Any advice?

i dont know if you already have but take the battery in & out of the mobo.

Also, try booting with just one HD and see if you can get it to boot.

I had a heck of a time with this board. It will be the last asus for me, as I managed to get a K8V that had the bad capacitors as well.

I finally got my ocz xtc 1gb 6400 kit to be stable at 5-5-5-15-2T, which is much looser than it is supposed to be using 304 bios.

Anyone have any news/ideas when / if asus will release a bios that supports 2.1 volts to get my ram working properly?

Thanks!

Probably never. It sounds like the limitation is supposed to be there. Check the specs on ASUS's webpage. Sucks. It used to say 15 step voltage control.... now it says 4. I guess thats the fix.

What I find amusing is that its listed as an overclocking feature.... GREAT, I CAN UNDERVOLT MY MEMORY, as we all know... thats how you get the most performance.... by running you 2.1v dimms at 1.8v

Honestly, this is the worst board I have owned. And my last 2 boards were free with CPU purchase(ECS). The one before that was the $29 discontinued Special(Epox 8KHA+). This is the first time I have actually spent decent money on a name brand board to find out that it doesnt even support standard memory configurations, is very disappointing. SHAME ON ASUS. NEVER AGAIN.

I recently just got an m2n-e without reading this thread first... how I wish I had. The vdimm config is a joke. I'm also having a bit of a problem with it rebooting when it is supposed to be shutting down in winxp. I definately select shutdown, it shuts windows down cleanly, then resets and boots up again - a bit of an issue for me as I use WOL to turn it on when needed remotely so I'd like to be safe in the knowledge that I know it has shut down, not just restarted. I haven't checked bios revision, I'm hoping it's not the latest and that the latest will cure this problem!

well, damn. I knew it. I knew they'd fix it on the website and claim it was a marketing error. I hope they screwed some guy with enough time and guts to file a lawsuit against them.

@chriskwarren - my 1.9v corsair won't run unless I set it to 5-5-5-15 2T - I've read of folks who get more wiggle room at 2T. I haven't played with it much, though.

Does anyone know of a board that WILL support 2.1v for sure? I just really hate this board right now.

How about voltage support in the nf590 dfi lanparty? The nf590 msi? Anyone but asus????

Thanks!

Hi guys, I got this board without seeing this too

currently i'm running:

m2n-e mobo
4200+ x2 athlon 64
1 gig legend 533 ddr2 (temporary)

anyway, i can clock my 4200 to 2.42 ghz (11x220, running the ram @ "ddr2 400") but with any higher fsb than 220, i get problems. Now i see why, the board is rubbish. I'm fairly sure the ram is the cause of my problems

what i want to know is if its actually possible to get ~250 fsb on this mobo? that's all ill need to get a 2.75ghz OC with my multi being at 11
is there any ram out there that can keep stable on this mobo up till 250?

cheers

Re supporting 2.1V DIMMS
Yes in theory because you can set the voltage much higher than this using AIBooster in Windows.
Of course since currently you cannot get into Windows with most "high voltage" DIMMS that's of no use, but it *does* mean Asus could fix it with a BIOS update.

Petrovski - I'm kind of skeptical about it. I know it can be done in AIBooster, but if you flash M2N-SLI bios, you still cant get above 1.95v on the vdimm. I tried, just kept going back to default. Granted, cross flashing bios doesnt mean much, but it left me a lil disheartened.

Over all with this board, I'm mostly disapointed. I havnt had the huge problems like most people here have. My OCZ Platinum Rev 2 ram only runs 5-4-4 at 800, which is better than nothing but still. Also the board in general is pretty buggy. I'm hoping that maybe this spring better boards will be out, hopefully.

Well what I am stating is that if vdimm can be set in software over 2.1V the motherboard
*can* support it and its up to Asus to put that support [correctly] in BIOS. Whether they will though is a different matter.
I also read somewhere that flashing the M2N-E with the SLI BIOS did cure the vdimm problem but they still had the 220 FSB issue.
They didn't mention that the BIOS would not keep the higher vdimm setting - maybe they had a different board revision [2.xx is supposedly available].
I was lucky that my DIMMS are 1.8V so my board is rock steady although when I bought
the M2N-E I did expect to be able to overclock and of course can't.

can someone explain the 220 fsb issue

is it to do with the max fsb the board can do, or is it just on rebooting?
i'm stuck on 220 and it sucks
all i need is 250(compared to the higher one you need on a 3800x2),

its my first OC too

*sorry for being an annoying newbie* :/

I just acquired this board, thinking it was a great Asus Product.

Also aquired a Pack of 2x1gb Corsair Memory XMS2 675 mhz.

Guess what... The memories dont work in dual channel, cause the board doesnt support it.. ermh?

im like.. nooooooo... never expected this. but the board simply cant handle the 2 memories in dual channel mode, i mean...every configuration that is made of this 2 memories together, results in constant system reboots, crazy erros, blue screens, u name it!!!! This board is simply awful!

the memories work fine alone though.. but even so.. i bought 2x1gb pack and can only use one memorie... bah.. this is a disgrace to Asus Name.

Have you tried flashing the bios? They addressed some of the memory campatibility issues in the new bios.

BIOS 0402 came out on the 25th. [FTP only so far?]
I've taken a chance and flashed it even though I don't know what's new.
No issues fixed for me [>220FSB/reboot fail] or VDIMM volts .

Well I have followed this forum for quite a while and have finally decided to post my findings.

I have the Asus M2N-e and have had no problems EXCEPT the reboot issue, which has now been 100% fixed for me with the new 0402 BIOS. The board performs well an overclocks better than any of my previous nForce boards.

Overall, I believe that most problems people are experiencing are due to either older Bioses, or the RAM that they are using.

My configuration is (passes Prime95 tests):

Asus M2N-e v.1.01G
AM2 Dual Core 3800+ @ 2.6GHz (9x290), auto Vcore (auto gives 1.45v)
2x 1Gb Samsung DDR2 533 @ 772MHz (533 with 290 o/c) - 5,5,5,15 1.90v
2x Seagate 320Gb in RAID 1 mirror
Forsa 7900GT o/c to 1.5v @ 665/900 with Zalman vf900
Creative Audigy 1
Coolermaster Realpower 450w (in Thermaletake Tsunami, lol)
Gigabyte ED821LC CPU fan with AS5 grease

Some things I set in the BIOS to help with stability of the o/c are:

PEG Disabled
HTT 3x
1.9v mem
Mem tREF 7.8 (instead of default 3.9)
Ram timing to 2t

I will check my BIOS again and edit anything I may have missed.

The above config scores approx:

19000 CPU score, 7200 mem score in SiSandra 2007sp1
11100 in 3Dmark05
6200 in 3Dmark06

Some quirks I noticed are:

-I cannot get 9x300 without increasing Vcore to 1.5, but I think that's the CPU not the boards fault
-The M2N-e sets a higher Vcore than you select in the Bios; if I select 1.5 it hits up to 1.55 according to Asus Probe
-If I make certain changes in the BIOS such as RAM timings, the first reboot may be unsuccesful, but turning the PC off and back on gets it going fine and passes Prime 95 tests

I sometimes wish I had got Core2Duo instead, but frankly the M2N-e is packed with extras that only AU$300+ Intel boards have, such as 5 fan headers, RAID etc.

I installed the 0402 bios and it looks to me that I have lost dimm timings as an option (I cannot see the option to change timings).

CPU-Z shows the timings I put in there while running the 0302 bios, but I lost the ability to see and change them.

Anyone else have this happen? I downloaded from the following link:
ftp://ftp.asus.com/pub/asus/mb/socketAM2/M2N-E/

I have re-flashed and they are still not there. Is there something obvious I have missed here?
