I started tinkering again and managed to get a higher OC out of my combo. I noticed in CPUZ that SPD reported 667-5-5-5-15 (even though the RAM I was sold was supposed to be 667-4-4-4-12). I'm pretty sure I tried this setting before, but perhaps I got better luck with the new BIOS and these setting?

Anyway...

Yet to determine stability, but so far, everything seems ok.

EDIT: Actually, it gets better - I'm now running at 667-4-4-4-12 at the same speeds as in the screenshots above

Turn down your HT multiplier from 4x to 3x, you are already at 1100.

Also you are at 275 bus speed, and have RAM at 667, then your RAM is actually running at 917MHz. Now wonder why you can't get faster.

Drop your RAM multi to 533, drop your HTT multi to 3x, and then clock up to 290 ish.

I plan on installing a M2N-E 570 in an existing PC this week. I'm replacing an Epox 9NPA3. Upgrading from a Athlon64/3000 to X2/4200. CPU, MB and 2x512 PC533 combo tested before shipping by vendor. I don't plan any OCing until everything is working. Using XP Home and existing Seagate 300 gig SATA2, ATI AIW 2006, in a Antek 1650 case w/ new Antek 450W PS.
I obviously I hadn't read this thread before buying - LOL nervously.
Any good places to check for tips on a basic MB transplant?
TIA

10/3 Transplant was easy. Asus board was slightly bigger and needed 3 more standoffs which I didn't have. Dumped the Realtek97 sound drivers and loaded all the Asus stuff.
CPU and MB temps running near 30º C. I'm happy so far.

I did try with HT multiplier at 3x and with ram set to 533 and it would not boot even at 260 - so I tried with the HT multiplier at 4x and ram at 533, and again it would not boot at 260. For some reason, it seems that I can olny go higher than 2578-258 if ram is set to 667.

No matter what setting I tried, the system would not boot at anything higher than 255 with ram set to 533, only if it was set to 667. Any ideas on that?

Hey guys, glad to join you!

You made me very excited with this 403 bios. Im having this mobo for over a month using 2x512 Geil 800MHz ram modules, that run fine @840MHz along with the 2100MHz cpu (x2 3800+). I also managed to boot the system at 2350/940 @1,375/1,95 voltages. And it did super pi without failing it. By now you may found out my only problem with this mobo was the soft boot problem, so if 403 really solves it, im going to flash my bios.

This goes to natrlhy:
no wonder you fried your 1.01 bios with the flashdrive... the bios updater's manual warns you not to use flashdrive if your bios version is prior to 2.03...

my first question: is it safe to use a flashdrive to flash the bios if i had a version 2.03?

I also like Cool 'n Quiet feature, but you stated not to use it with overclock. In case i set cpu multiplier to 9x and the fsb to 300 is it possible that cool n quiet will set cpu multiplier to 10x during stress so it would fry my cpu? What's the best result you can achieve with x10 multiplier? In this case I can tell you it would be tolly safe to use cool n quiet as it only modifies the multiplier between x5 and x10.

Before I tried to update my BIOS, support said give the flashdrive method a try since it works very well. The results of that were obvious

@ Diocles: Yes and Yes. Also, the manual talks about the EZ Flash utility in windows, not using a flash drive to update your BIOS. I flashed from 0103 to 0203 with a flash drive.

@ Nathan: Good info. I've actually considered volt-modding the board, but I'll wait until I get to something that limits my CPU first. I had been able to hit 2.7 GHz running pretty stable, but I've been too lazy to take my flash drive out of my car stereo and flash to 0402... Maybe I'll get around to it this weekend. Then, I might play with overclocking again.

@ECW: You're exactly right.

Ok, I've just built a new PC using this M2N-E - I've got 1 stick PNY DDR2 5300 RAM and a new IDE HDD - I'm trying to simply install windows, but I get disk errors saying setup cannot verify disk or setup cannot copy files and then I have to restart again

- I've totally formatted the disk (quick & full)
- Update the BIOS to v304

I read somewhere that RAM voltage might cause issues?

Can any experts explain what might be causing this so I at least know where to look - I've checked in the BIOS and it detects the new hard disk fine and it's all on auto...

I applied the 0402 BIOS update last night. I woke up again this morning and the system was hung again. No BSOD, just hung and unresponsive... I had to press the reset button again and the system is up (until this happens again).

Any thoughts? I'm ready to start yanking out memory to weed out what is causing this...

How do I throttle my DDR2 800 memory down to 667? I would like to try this to see if I gain any system stablilty.

Update:

I have modified my DDR2 voltage settings from 1.90V to 1.95V. This has allowed me to successfully run a 1.5 hour memtest86+ with 3 passes and 0 fail! Before I could only run memtest for 3 minutes max before it would reboot my system suddently...

This might have been the magic bullet for me!

@natrlhy - SuperPi's 1M test is a a better quick and dirty test than memtest, IMO. If you can pass it, shoot for 32M. I've run 2 hours of memtest 86+ and not been able to boot windows. Use the BIOS setup to change your RAM speed (you may have to search through the options before you find it - it's not where you'd think it would be).

UPDATE:

HTT - 305 MHz
CPU Multiplier - 9x
HT Multiplier - 3x
vDIMM - 1.95v
vCore - 1.55v
Memory @ DDR2 533 = 813 MHz @ 5-5-5-15 2T
PCIe - 100MHz
PEG Link Disabled

Hits a 2.745 GHz clock speed at slightly higher than stock memory speed (stock timings) running simultaneous SuperPi 32M tests successfully and 27 hours of Orthos SP2004 (Dual Core Beta Version) on Blend. Max sustained load temps of 51c and Idle temps of 31c. Stable. No reboot problems.

I tried running at 280 HTT x 10 CPU Mult. = 2.8 GHz with the same settings, but the setup failed on core 1 after 17.5 hours. I figured I was close, but I didn't have the heart to take a total loss dropping to 2.75, so I dropped the multiplier and raised the HTT to bring the memory speed up. If I feel like not using my computer a few more days, I may try to see how low I can set the vCore before this setup fails. I feel like 1.55v is more than enough - even though I've got the cooling to handle it. I'll keep you guys updated.

So, not to diminish the problems that anyone else is having, but I give 0402 a thumbs up; Asus did a good job fixing the soft reboot issues.

Well i am confused. I updated my bios to 402 fine. Then i set FSB (not HTT @inspire) to 230MHz, with HTT 4x RAM 3x and cpu vcore on default. It didn't boot. It's not only it didn't boot (like soft boot problems) but it was bleeping and bleeping. After cold reseting it booted fine, but i rather switched it back to 220MHz... What can cause this? What this bleeping means? Would increasing core voltage fix it? When i hear bleeping im always afraid that some of my hardware components crapped out.

@ Diocles - the BIOS refers to that setting as HTT, that's what I call it. the beeping is memory problems - what voltage / timings / speed is your memory set at?

I have 2x512 Geil 800MHz memory... They were fine with BIOS 101 too, they run @800MHz with 1,8V and 5-5-5-15 2T. With BIOS202 when boot was successful, i was able to run them @940MHz at 1,95V with 5-5-5-15 2T timings.

Now the beeping occured with an attempt to run them @660MHz 1,8V and automatic timing settings, i guess its 5-5-5-15 2T at this speed. I thought ill be able to oc well thats why i changed ram multiplier to x3 before.

hello,

i just bought this MB but i have a problem to control fan_speed so i cant oc my x2

AI booster screen

as you see ai booster doesnt give me access to control fan_speed, Qfan is on so what else can i do? is there something in the bios to check?

thanks

I ran the SuperPi 32M test and it locked up my system after about 10 minutes. I had to press the reset button on my HTPC in order to reboot my system.
Is this something to be concerned about?

So, my problem is as follows (with BIOS 402):
I am able to run my pc with the following bios options:
FSB 220; RAM 800; HT 5x. That makes CPU 2200MHz; RAM 840MHz; HT 1100MHz. I ran 2 SuperPi 32M tests simultaneously on both cores and I stressed the VGA with RTHDRIBL. Nothing has failed, the system proved to be very stable.

It seems to me that I can't raise the FSB above 220MHz. I was NOT able to run my pc with the following bios options:
FSB 225; RAM 667; HT 3x which would make CPU 2250MHz, RAM 732MHz; HT 675MHz.

The reason: the system doesn't boot and it gives me a beeping signal (a long and double short), which indicates that my video adapter is either bad or seated improperly. That is definetly not the case. I have no problems with my 7600GS Golden Sample and I can't see how the VGA functionality is connected to FSB. I tried to disable PEG Link but it didn't help.

PCI-E frequency is set to auto so it should operate @100MHz as PCI-E has a completely independent clock generator afaik.
Please try to help me with finding the root of this problem!

ps. after a cold rebooting thankfully i managed to start my system, and i switched back immidiately to the working options stated above
ps2. ram timings are 5-5-5-15-2T at all times... id like to point out that the mobo says my vga is wrong at these times

Diocles - I would try setting PCI-E frequency to 100Mhz (with auto, I believe it does change with FSB) and see what happens.

<thats not me...I'm confused.

When I set my PCIe clock to 110 I had multiple DVD burn failures and some other oddities - dont try it is my advice.

Currently I am happy at 290x9, 1.45v, PEG disabled, 533 RAM (giving 773MHz) 1.9v @ 5/5/5/15/20/7.8
