Well, I've been in touch with three different "Asus techincans", and every of them have said that they are aware of the "problem" and the lack of the VDIMM is to gain stability (LOL). I said to everyone of them that that's a total opposite of gaining stability since the most of DDR2-kits like to operate on 2.1Volts or higher. Haven't heard of them ever since.

Hello again.... ... bought the mobo last night boz reading your comments....coz i was highly recc by the retailer and a friend who has one. He has no complaint...he's a novice and he do not OC....can anyone tell me what is the best stable OC setting.
lastly i wouldlike congratulate the one who started this forum-mostly coz the MOBO is mid performance...

Well, every mobo and every CPU are unique, one can't tell which settings are the best for your system. You just have to test which suits you best. I've used FSB 240x11, DDR667, 1.95VDIMM and 1.40VCORE, but I can't boot correctly with that setup. System is stable, but has some boot issues, my stable and working setup is FSB229x11, DDR800, 1.95VDIMM and 1.35VCORE. I'm using G.Skill 5-5-5-15 pc6400 2x2GB-kit, so those are the latencies which I'm using. And remember to lock the PCI-E frequency to 100MHz.

AMD X2 4200+
M2N-E, 0305 BIOS
G.Skill 5-5-5-15 pc6400 2x1GB
Gigabyte GF7900GT

Well, that's quite obvious, 'cause as you have two cores, your CPU produces ~30% more heat than a single core does.

Hmm, I updated my BIOS to 0402 Beta today and got rid of those boot problems. I'm running now 246MHzx11 and system is stable and booting well.

I set it to 305X9=2745MHZ 1.5v, 553MHZ RAM multiplier 1.95v, hypertransport bus to 3x. That's the highest my chip will do, but remember, everyone's chip is diffrent.

I use clockgen to set to 306 but PC restart immediately. My Sempron can run stable at 300X8=2400Mhz, Vcore default. How to avoid the restart when set bus more 300 ? I use BIOS 0402. Is it the limit of mobo or BIOS ?

That's weird, 305 is my maximum too and I would guess that it's inspire's maximum too.

Which coolers are you using? I'm using Zalman 9500AM2 in a Antec P150 case, and I can't even imagine of 1.55VCORE It would toast my CPU. I'm running on 1.4Volts and 2640MHz right now, and my CPU's loadtemp is 61°C.

Ok. Hmm, I tried to run my CPU with 305*9 today, but it seems that I can't use 9 as a multiplier. System Posted at 11*305. Maybe there's a little bug in the BIOS or sth.. Now running 11*250.

I've had a variety of weird problems with this board - and I wasn't sure until reading this thread that the board is the most likely culprit for the failure [repeatedly] to get XP 64 bit to install or once installed, remain stable, on a brand new Western Digital Caviar SATA 2 drive. Brand new YESTERDAY! The other drive is a Seagate 80gig SATA2 and it is unproblematic. I have now installed XP 64 bit on the WD about 6 times, it always ends up doing something that renders it useless. Never seen anything like this before. The CPU was new yesterday [4200+ dual core] the ram was new yesterday [2 x 512mB ddr2 800 King Max], the mobo is about 2 weeks old and the vid card is an engineering spec from ATI that works just fine. It's a loaner. Latest with the WD drive: it decided to make me click on non-existent [hence, also not on the screen] user name pictures to log in. While trying to install I kept getting the blue screen of error hell, the one you see if some new driver or hardware or a virus is lurking. NOT something that crashes an XP install.

I guess you gotta pay ASUS 250-300 bucks now or deal with the ensuing crap. I am glad to have found this thread, I will show it to the retailer who reflexively chants the ASUS is god mantra any time I ask about other boards.

If I was you, I would test the DDRs first. That's more likely a memory issue than a hdd issue, 'cause WD has always manufactured very high quality hdds. Try to make your mems lower, make the setting from BIOS to 667MHz and give them 1.95V voltage.

It seems that there is new version of the BIOS at the asus ftp - 501. Let's hope they have fixed most of the problems

Could you post a direct link? The 0402 Beta is deleted from the Asus' website, so I think it's coming there too..

EDIT: I found it myself, thanks for the info

I think VDIMM limit because of hardware not in BIOS.

I'm now running the 0501 bios and testing it.

Thanks for the link.

Would be nice if we had more vdimm though. I really hope its something that can be done in the future.

Just updated to 501.

I can now actually restart my computer without having to shut down.

They added an option to Enable/Disable AMD Live!

Gonna try some overclocking to see if it got any better

The option to disable AMD Live has been there from 0302, if I don't remember wrong. At least my 0305 did have that option.
