Yep, well I couldn't boot my system up when I was using FSB over 229MHz with 0305 BIOS. When I updated it to 0402, I could post with higher FSB and I'm now using 246MHz*11 for my 4200+ X2.

Funny, I contacted to the Asus Support and asked if they could send me some kind of USB drivers for Vista x64.
Here's what they answered:
"Dear Customer

Asus will not release any Vista drivers untill Vista is fully official released.

Best Regards
David Hammer - Asus Nordic TSD"

...should someone tell them that Vista is _really_ already released...? I'm using the RTM version of it, _legally_. Go Asus, go.

Meh... maybe they mean when it's available in stores. Although it's pretty stupid because even nVidia/ATI had theirs drivers out for a while now.

I have an AMD 4200+ as well, running @ 2600 (11x 236) right now, seems stable.

Well, I think that they're just trying to gain more time to make their buggy drivers work. That type of answer is quite a common one from Asus' tech support, they really think that every one, who sends a query, is a total dumb and knows nothing about computers & softwares.

After reading through this and other forums I think I may just RMA this board. So far it seems to have set-up simply but I get troubles installing XP. I haven't built a system in several years and this one seems to have been a bad choice.

I;m running Corsair XMS2 (2x512) 240 pins 800 dimms and athlon X2 4200

So far I have no problems with power on but don't get the Bios or the memory count (found out that the BIOS is 0305). I just go directly to the M2N-e asus logo. I can boot to the CDrom, format the drive, load XP but on restart I get the XP start-up page (with the blue bar) and nothing else. It wont access the XP disc and continue installation.

I have reclocked the DDR2 dimms from 800 to 667 but that hasn't helped. No lock ups or crashes it just refuses to take the next step.

Help!

TIA

You should try to set the timings for the DDRs manually. Try to set timings 5-5-5-15-2T instead of Autos. You can set them up in the CPU Setup (or something like that, couple menus below Jumperfree....) And from the Jumperfree-menu set the overclock-switch to manual and set the FSB to 200, CPU voltage to Auto, DDR Voltage to 1.95V, multiplier to Auto and the PCI-E clock to 100MHz. After that you've given as much juice for the DDRs as the mobo can produce. Good luck.

EDIT: I don't know the exact timings for your DDRs, but if you can install the Windows with that setup, you can adjust them afterwards. And from the CPU-setup, toggle the Cool'n'Quiet to Enabled too.

:disgust:

I purchased this MoBo recently with high hopes from the trusted name of ASUS (before reading this board of course!)

Can I just ask a few plain-jane questions to you guys and hopefully get a better answer than from the so-called "ASUS service technicians"...

1. Does this mobo support DDRII-800 RAM's of any kind?(or are all DDRII 800 RAM's above the operating level of 1.95v)

2. If i'm not planning on overclocking, BUT depending on my mobo to provide decent enough support for my AMD 3800+ & a Radeon1950Pro, can this board honestly cut it?

Thanks guys!

1. I'm using G.Skill 5-5-5-15 800MHz DDR2, 2x2GB kit, and it's working fine. Just check that the RAMs you're about to purchase, are meant to operate at voltages between 1.8V and 2.0V
2. M2N-E doesn't slow those components down. I'm running 4200+ X2 and Geforce 7900GT nicely.

I'm using Mushkin EM-6400 (5-5-5-12 DDRII 800) dimms here, they work fine.

They're rated for 1.9v stock but I run them at 1.95v just to be sure.

does this motherboard or any motherboards that use the nforce 5 570mcp have nvidia firewall built into them? or did they drop the firewall feature?

Just loaded the 0502 bios (Thanks for the link)

Still no adjustment of Vdimm past 1.95v. Haven't had a chance to look deep into the bios settings, but haven't noticed anything different.

Yeah, I didn't find anything different either...still waiting for the x64-Vista-drivers :/

By the way, it's a pity that you can't flash your bios from a USB-flash memory anymore via EZ-Flash. That option was in the 0305 BIOS, but after 0402 that option has been gone.

Flashing a SLI-BIOS is impossible to this mobo, you can flash it, but it won't work correctly, and downgrading back to the M2N-E bios is also impossible from the SLI bios. They have succesfully replaced the exact bios chip from the sli-board to this m2n-e board, but no one has flashed a working sli-bios to this mobo.

No, I couldn't afford it. I never got anything out of Asus's technical support, either. I recall seeing somewhere that the Asus webpage for the M2N-E has been changed to reflect the current memory voltage steppings. As if to say 'vDIMM over 1.95v? Are you mad? What would give you that idea?'

Okay. Well from what I have been reading maybe I should look at the DFI Infinity Ultra II-M2

A lot of positive posts on several forums and reviews.

M2N-E is a decent board but with some issue with certain memories. If you can find the perfect match between the two then go for the M2 but, since that is going to be hard, you might wanna try another board.

I too was considering this board. Read and decided not.

Was going to try DFI INFINITY NF ULTRAII-M2 , but after reading the poor reviews I'm considering not.

Can anyone provide some other choices? (MSI K9N Platinum Socket AM2, or a FOXCONN board?

Also how is M2N-SLI board. Does it have the same problems as the M2N-E?

By the way, Inspire, thanks for such a good thread.
