so, is there now a possibility to volt-mod this mobo???

(i don't want to read the 28 pages of the topic; i don't speak english...
i'm sorry if my question about the bios has already been asqued in the topic)

i've seen several pages to volt-mod a m2n-sli... the PCB should be the same??... du you think i could use the same voltmod technic for my m2n-e???

there must be a reason for this vdimm-limitation. harware possibilities or marketing?
i don't want to "brake" (sorry for the bad english...) my motherboard because of a bad volt-modding...
if it's only a marketing limitation, there should be no problems tu voltmod it, but if the motherboard can't support a high vdimm (not that high... 2,3v isn't that high!!!!!) there could be some problems!!

Click here for vdimm mod and let us know how it goes.

yes, i'd seen it but I've never voltmodded, I'm a real noob in voltmodding and I'm frightened in doing something bad...

another one has modded a bios of a m2n sli dlx and flashed his m2n-e bios with it. it runs and he can change the vdimm to higher than 1,95V.
I could try it, but if it doesn't run, I'll be trapped! the motherboard could not boot again, and I couldn't do anything!

I've read that even though you can set the vdimm higher with the m2n-sli bios is doesn't actually go higher than 1.95, not sure though.

I was gonna properly overclock my m2n-e and the post said something about locking sata er something like that, does this board have that capability? I have m2n-e with amd64 3200+ orleans core currently running stable at 2385 mhz 9x265. Currently have ram mult at stock for my ddr2 667 5-5-5-15 2t. This was basically just lowering cpu mult to 9 and uppin the fsb and some voltages laoong the way by no means the max I can get. I was gonna follow the procedure stickied in the OC section and he said something about locking your sata? explain plz. TY

But why do they limitate to 1,95V, then? it's idiot!

I don't understand what you mean though "to lock sata"....

Hello, I've just baught this board and also I've baught this : OCZ ATI Crossfire PC2-6400 2GB 2X1GB DDR2-800 CL5-5-5-15 240PIN DIMM Dual Channel Memory Kit

Now, I've read the specifications and it says that the motherboard can handle up to 8GB of RAM and a maximum of 800MHz .... now, I've read through some of the thread and a lot of you seem to be bashing it quite a lot, should I be worried that it won't work?

This is a very good board if you do not want to overclock. It has a nice layout and is easy to set up. Directions are easy and kudos must be given to Asus as the installation manual is written in real English.
Nothing flashy or special here. A very pedestrian board. If you want a solid Vista ready board for business or casual use, this fills the bill. It runs my xp w/ nvidia 7600 and 2 gbs ram perfectly. It works for me.
If you are a big time gamer, this is not for you. Runs my Gskill mem at 800 mhz without a hitch.

Just remember that RAM voltages top out at 1.95V. I'm gonna start overclocking soon, once I get something figured out.

We may have to wait for the none beta to come out before we find out what it changes.

I don't think they will be able to fix the vdimm issue.

the vdimm issue will never be fixed with a BIOS update. it is a hardware issue from what i hear

I read that it's the same board as the M2N-SLI, so it can't be a hardware issue can it?

it can if it isn't the same board. if it were the same board then there would be no reason to limit the vdimm. i've seen hardware hacks to get it above 1.95 so it must be hardware related. i can run at 4-4-4-12-2T so the only thing i'm pissed about is how much prices have dropped since i built my computer.

had some northbridge overheating problems with a gigabyte m61p-s3 so i picked up this board.
installation was a breeze, everything seems to be working just fine with x2 6000, 4gb ddr800

will try orthos running overnight.

edit: does anybody know what speedfan temps correlate to? i'd imagine "Core" on the AMD K8 chip is the CPU temp. what about the others?

Hi. I've got some problems with overclocking this mobo.

I've got a windsor x2 3800 running stable @230 FSB@1,15V. My RAM is running @920MHz@5-5-5-15-2T. PCI-E is fixed @100MHz. I have really no problem at this point, but i want to see how much my X2 can take.

In first step i tried to lower the speed of my ram by selecting 667MHz and timing 5-5-5-15-2T. I also set HT to 4x. My PCI-E is still locked @100MHz the FSB is still 230MHz. Still my computer fails to boot, and i get a 1long, 2 short beep code, which should mean that my video adaptor is wrong. That is definetly not the case. The mobo is fine anyways, it runs good with 800MHz ram and 5x HT settings, i just can't lower them.

Does anyone having BSODs and hangup issues use Outpost Firewall? I've got rid of mine about a month ago and since then I've only got a few random hangups which is much-much less than it used to be. BSODs are also gone. Maybe it's not only memory voltage that's causing troubles

OK,

This mobo is not bad per se but it requires some getting used to for like 6 months of intensive tinkering. Whether you OC or not voltage is always an issue, in fact this is the most voltage issue ridden board I have ever come across in the last 20 years or so. There is the Vdimm limitation of course but also the wide discrepancies between voltage values set in bios and actual voltage output. For example my cpu requires about 1.40 volts to function properly however if I set CPU Voltage to Auto the resulting voltage according to most sensor reading utilities (CPUZ, Everest, Orthos, etc.) is only 1.2v which obviously leads to a plethora of annoyances if left untouched. Not a big deal we can fix this by locking CPU Voltage to 1.4v, right?

Wrong, setting CPU Voltage to 1.400 still yields less than 1.3v, a huge discrepancy that can seriously cripple one's system's ability to perform normally. In the end I had to set CPU Voltage in bios to 1.5 in order to achieve a whooping 1.38v and my CPU is now running quite hot. Of course the bios and that joke progie PC Probe tell me the values I have set in bios are the ones the system is running at but guess what all other monitoring programs disagree and so does the multimeter. Seeing this one can't help but wonder what else is undervolted on that board? If I set vdimm to the max at 1.95v what am I really getting? 1.8v? Dunno, could as well be more than 1.95v seeing that I never had any problems using 2.1v ram on this board, go figure. Mind you I can only achieve 3.2Ghz OC which may sound impressive but is actually pitiful for the 6000+ whose stock clock is 3.0Ghz. Wow, a 6% OC. Boy am I impressed.

This being said I don't think this board is utter crap because at stock clocks it works ok apart from the odd sudden shutdown that happens about twice a month, which is easy to assume is due to something being undervolted (but what? not that easy to tell when all voltage values are way off the mark). But I've seen worse, far worse. So I guess this board deserves a 4 out of 10 mostly because of low price and cool looks. However it does require some technical experience to operate it, when it shouldn't. I should have looked at the OCZ motherboard compatibility chart before purchasing this board last spring. Not only is the M2N-E conspicuously absent from the chart but there isn't even a single AM2 based Asus board on that chart.

I have had numerous problems with this board since july of last year when I bought it, (and it wasn't even my intended board, i believe the good fellows at Canada Computers decided to reccomend this to me with the fact that they could not move this board at all in mind). I had to manually set this board to 1.95v for the ram as it had numerous shutdowns while trying to play games. On a side note, my old IDE HDD that i transferred from my old computer to this one broke down and I am in the market for a new HDD (my sata one also mysteriously broke... apparantly it cant write to the boot sector or something, does that mean its broke for good?).

I set my eyes on the Western Digital Raptor 10k 72gb Sata HDD. My question is that since its (OEM) and comes with no cables / screws etc, would this motherboard have issues recognizing this if i tried to install windows on it. Since i have no floppy drive there would be no way to install drivers so that it would recognize it. I have the generic sata cable from my last hard drive and the power plugs, and the screws that came with my case. I just want to make sure that i have no issues installing windows on the new (and only) internal harddrive i have (although i will be getting a larger 250gb external for other goodies and the like, just not right away).

Thanks

Welcome Scott.

I purchased my computer from Canada Computers as well. I like their service, and I have had no problems with this board. The guy, Tank, that sold me this computer knew what he was doing. My motherboard is paired up with Kingston ValueRAM so that's one reason why I've had no problems so far. This motherboard has been great for me, and it's been almost 1 year since I first purchased it.

Like you, I didn't have a floppy drive as well. The people at CC built my computer and I had to install Windows by myself. The Windows installation was quick and problem free. The people at CC used the M2N-E's SATA cables, and as for the screws, I have no clue where they got them from.

Hope that helps.

Hi All

Hope someone can help me, i have just built a new PC with a M2N-E SLi board, and want to install windows xp on a single Hitachi 400GB SATA 2 Drive.

The install went ok (not pressing F6) however I cant get the system to boot. The system hangs at the point where the XP logo and the moving blue bar appear. The blue bar appears and continues to move but nothing further happens.

System Spec
Asus M2NE- SLi
AMD 64 x2 6000+
2x 1gb Matched Corsair RAM
Hitachi 400GB SATA-2
Gainward GT8500GT

I am installing 32 bit XP SP1a (I dont have a XP With SP2 disk but have SP 2 disk seperate)

I have installed system fine with only a 17GB IDE drive as a test, however I would rather use the SATA drive only ... and yes, I have disconnected both the molex and PATA cable from the 17GB drive before installing on the SATA drive.

Does anyone have any ideas?

EDIT : Major weirdness is happening, just tried to boot into SAFE MODE, and it works, however it still is not working boot normally
