yes, dont bother concidering the P4S533 board.

I keep reading that but it seems I build more of them than I do the P4B's, It is as fast running at 133 and just as stable and cost less, But just my 2 cents if you are going with a P4 go with RDRam if not get a Athlon

Wow! As I post this message I'm running 166 FSB with 4:5 divider. :Q Sandra Memory scores are 3161/3164. That's with Norton AV running at the same time, which I believe slows down the Benchmark.

Prime 95 failed after about 5 minutes. I'll up the voltage and see if I can get stable. Right now I'm at 1.7 Volts so I got a few to go yet. I just enabled the overvolt jumper.

Okay motherboard wierdness at 166 FSB. I upped the voltage to 1.750 and when I booted it was beeping like crazy. According to the manual that means the processor is too hot, but ASUS probe was only showing 50. So I rebooted and lowered the voltage to 1.725, it still beeps but not as much. Weird eh?

Anyway I'm trying 165 at 1.700 volts right now. So far no beeping. Only thing I'm concerned with at this FSB is that my PCI/AGP slots may be running to high. How do you check them?

Okay at 165 I was having trouble getting through 3dmark and Prime95 finally failed after about 1/2 hour.

So now I'm at 164 FSB, here are the scores:

2624 MHz @ 1.7 Volts with DDR 410 @ 2.65 Volts
VisionTek GF4 Ti4400 @ 290/640 -- Default Voltage

3DMark2001 SE Build 330 -- 12224
Sandra Memory -- 3107/3118
Sandra CPU Multimedia -- 10431/12712

Hopefully Prime95 won't fail this time.

I had the same beeping issue with the board. It does it every time you go above 1.7v. Turn off the temperature monitor for the CPU in the bios and it won't beep anymore.

I raised the DIMM Voltage to 2.7 and that seems to have done the trick for now. I'm stable at 163. I'll push it back to 166 and see how it goes. If that don't work I'll try what you said Joker and then raise the Vcore.

Thanks guys!

Well Prime 95 ran for 6 hours before it failed at 166 FSB! And I can't raise the vcore anymore without it beeping. It doesn't matter what I set to Ignore in the Bios it just keeps beeping. I suppose I could disconnect the speaker, but it just bothers me knowing that it's beeping if I can't here it. Any ideas as to why it's doing that? I also notice that when I set the the voltage to above 1.7 volts the Power Temp isn't greyed out anymore and it's displaying 126 degrees C! Have you noticed that happening Joker??

When you set the voltage back to 1.7 the Power Temp monitor is greyed out again. Weird eh?

Yeah I got the same issue w/the power temp monitor, seems to be a bios bug. When I turned off the cpu temp monitor the beeping stopped. Make sure you don't have MBM on if you use it b/c that will trigger it even w/the CPU temp monitor off.

Please bare with this newbie.

I really need help on these questions, as no other forums have the effort to answer these.
I hope this forum can help me. It would be a good starting base for my adventure in OC a P4.

I am new at both putting together my P4. I have Corsair XMSPC2700, a Lian-Li PC65, Enermax 350W Whisper.

Doing lots of research to get my MOBO and CPU.

I am intending to OC for games etc, but run at stock for video editing.

So have decided to get the 1.6A. Was going to get the Abit BG7, but then there is this P4B533-V.

Please help me with these questions:

1. If I don't want to OC too much, just to 2.4, will the Abit BG7 be good enough ?

2. Read somewhere about applying ASIII to other parts other to the CPU (eg ICH4). Really ? Why ? I thought only place is where the CPU meets the HS.

3. Do I have to get a specific 1.6A, or any 1.6A will do. Keep in mind I will be happy just to OC to 2.4. Higher is nice but...

4. Please review this plan. Get MOBO and CPU. Clean thermal pad off stock HS. Apply ASIII to CPU core. Install CPU and MOBO + all else.
Boot up, then run at stock speed for a few nights. Get back on this thread or BG7 thread and see what settings to OC.

5. With the above plan, is it easy to change the BIOS so I can run my Corsair XMS2700 when the MOBO is rated at PC2100.

6. Is it bad for the CPU to go back and forth between stock and OC speeds ?

Thanks in advance.

Ahh..that's it then I have ASUS Probe running. I'll turn it off. What voltage/speed are you at Joker?

Naah that didn't work either. I set everything to Ignore in the BIOS and shut off ASUS Probe, but it continues to beep. I guess I'll just stick with 163 or 164, I seem to be stable at those speeds with a max temp of 60 C.

60C? Wow that's hot! I panick when the temp gets to 52 C under load When I shut off the cpu temp in the bios the beeping disappeared for me. Not sure why it's not working for you. Anyway if you do the pin mod on the cpu then it shouldn't beep for you anymore.

Well I don't know what I'm doing wrong. I removed the Alpha HSF and reset it with a very thin layer of AS3 as smooth as I could get it. What a pain this thing is to take on and off.

I thought I was all set. For the first few minutes it was maxxing at 51 - 52, but after like 10 mins it slowly rose to 57. That's where I max out now. So an improvement, but still not close to the temps you guys are getting. Maybe it's my case cooling that's the problem...

Any suggestions?

Krellor I saw your running a 2900 RPM Sunon on your Alpha. I believe that fan is rated at 39 CFM. Do you have the fan blowing air onto the Alpha or sucking air off of it? It should be sucking. Then if you have it pulling air off as it should be what case do you have and what fans are you using? What is your case temp?

Has anyone tried the new Bios for this board?I saw that the Asus site has it.Seems strange that a new bios is out before the board has been distributed.Maybe it clears a few of the minor things.I get mine tomorrow

Actually I have the Sunon blowing onto the Alpha. I'll switch it around and try that. I have 2 case fans, one in front pulling air into the case and one in the back exhausting air. The are the fans that came with the case, I'm not sure what brand they are or what they are rated at.

Thanks for the tip!
