I'm looking for this P4B533V motherboard 5150Joker said they're available at cdrexpress, anywhere else? Their shipping is a little pricey there. Anyway, if not anywhere else, I'll still get one.

I have a P4B533-V on the way. I'm currently using the P4b533 (845E) which is an awsome board but my PC2700
is running underclocked.

I got mine at Allstarshop:

what is the difference between the 533-v and the 533-vm
I know the vm is micro atx but are any features missing from it?

i just recvd the vm..
it appears to lack a memory voltage jumper setting, and a cpu voltage seting capabilities! DISSAPOINTMENT!!

it is still in the box and i mite return it, unless i can sucessfully flash the the v bios. if i do decide to get it going, i need the wire trick right from the get - go.
i will also first update the bios if needed to see if there are any major changes.
doubtful though

Well for one, you should have caught on to this. It's missing 3 PCI slots from the V version. And yea, its missing some of those voltage features.

Well having the fan sucking or blowing on the Alpha doesn't make any difference for me I still get the same temps...maybe even a little worse with it sucking.

Finally my -V has arrived. Two things are true...

1. Playing the Post Reporter thru the internal speaker is a joke. (Antec 880) Sounds like she is underwater. At least I think it's a she.
2. Formatting an 80gb drive takes forever.

After reading several VERY GOOD posts (jsethi, Joker to name a few) on this board and agonizing over Epox 4G4A+, I pulled the trigger on P4B533-V. Here is what I have my for my system:

MB: ASUS P4B533-V
MEM: Corsair 512MB PC3200 XMS
CPU: 1.6A NW
CASE: Kingwin Aluminium Sliver
PWR: Antec TRU 550W
RAID: Highpoint 404
HDD: WD 120JB SE X 4 (Raid 0+1)
MODEM: USR Performance Pro
VIDEO: NONE (Planning to use integrated video and upgrade to ATI 8500DV 128MB when prices come down (when?)
SOUND: Built in MB
NIC: Built in MB

All parts are in but I am not (out of town). Will be building this weekend. I want to overclock to 160FSB, DDR400 (4:5 divider). This is where I need help from you experts:

1. What should be my initial power up settings, jumperless (is this the default?) or set the FSB manually?
2. What are the optimum VCore and vmem settings for this FSB?
3. CAS settings?
4. This is my first time overclocking. Should I burn in at default speed for 24 hours before attempting to overclock?
5. I keep reading about the 3:4 trick on ASUS boards but I don't know how to do this or can this be done on this MB.
6. Downloaded Prime 95, PCMark 2002 and 3DMark SE (scores will suck I know due to integrated video). Is this enough to stress the system to test stability?

WISH ME LUCK

1. Jumperless is default and I'd recommend leaving it like that unless you want to try the 3:4 trick (see below). You may wish to turn off "halt on all errors" in the bios the first time you powerup. I'd recommend installing XP at default speeds and voltages as well as making an image backup before attempting overclocking.

2. It's really hard to say what the optimum vcore/vmem settings are since not all cpu/memory are built equal. However as a ballpark figure I'd say 1.65v+ for the cpu and 2.8v for the memory would suffice.

3. For CAS settings at 160 I'd recommend starting with 2.5-3-3-7 and turn off enhance memory.

4. I'd recommend burning in the cpu and memory with prime95/sandra before attempting an overclock.

5. The 3:4 trick on Asus boards involves booting into the bios at 132 fsb and setting 3:4. Then shutdown and switch to jumpered mode, set the fsb via dip switches and boot up. You cannot enter the bios once you've made these changes else the divider reverts back to 1:1. For more information on setting 3:4 for the P4B533-V(M) go here

6. Should be fine.

Good luck.

I just bought the P4B533-V and other gear as follows

P4B533-V from CDRexpress - $184
P4/2.4B & AS3 from New Egg - $421
Xtreme DDR PC3200 512meg from PC-Pitstop - $188

For a total of $793, which includes shipping (2 day air).

I'm upgrading from a P3/1.0GHz BX board, so this should be a significant upgrade. Hopefully I can use the information in this forum to overclock it. My target is ~2.8 Ghz. I hope the memory doesn't cause a problem. I've read that the 512 meg dual sided modules don't overclock as well, but I bought it as oposed to 2x256 because I might want to go up to 1gig of ram soon.

I should have the stuff installed by the middle of next week, and I'll post my experiences and scores then.

For those of you looking for this board, I am selling mine on the For Sale board here on Anandtech. Head on over there and do a search for "cobrasvt". The price listed there includes shipping as well. Decided to go all out and get the 8IHXP with some PC1066 loving.

Only powered her up 3 times as well....

PM if you're interested...

Wow. Could you have spent anymore?

I think one of the tricks to a good o/c experience is not shooting your wad on 1st wave solutions. Wait about a week or two. Youll pay 50% less and get the same benefits.

I've been reading about this board with great interest. A few questions that I hope people who own the board will answer:

1. What FSB settings are available (jumper or jumperless?)
2. What memory ratios are available (1/1, 3/4, 4/5) and at what FSB settings?
3. What PCI/AGP locked settings does the board have?
4. Does this board have the 12v P4 power connector?
5. What are the highest stable FSB and DDR settings people are getting?
6. What voltage settings are available n this board if you vid pin trick the sucker?

I'm looking at the p4b533-v and taking a renewed interest in the epox 4g4a as some people are now getting some great OC's with the board. Any thoughts?

Thanks

Well I just got my board together ,running prime for the past hour at 152fsb=2431.88 at a 4-5 mem setting and PCI locked at 33-66. Sandra mem bandwith score is 2940 on both counts. About 325 better than I was getting with the MSI 645 Ultra. Will push it farther tomorrow. So far I really like this board, for the price it has to be great or it goes back.Using stock Intel cooling so far.I wanted to see what I could get with the stock cooler before I slap on the Thermosonic

P.S. I should mention it's a 1.6a chip..

Hi!

I have one question about the P4B533-V, that no one could answer yet (?), or I haven't found it anywhere yet, I don't know.
Is it possible to run the memory with 166MHz (DDR333) with a NorthwoodA processor (100MHz FSB)?
Is there a proper memory divider switch to run 100MHz FSB and 166MHz RAM, or is only 133MHz FSB and 166MHz RAM possible (4:5)?
Thanks for your Help in Advance.

B. W.
