Dave, Thanks I believe v1016 provides support for 3.2 and above for Northwood processors and the Prescott processors. I hope I am wrong and that v1014 will run the 3.4C at full power or comes up at all.

Well, it is supposed to be easy to update anyway.

I bought a 2.4C, but it has M0 stepping so it is supposed to have the EE core. All I know is that it is running at 3.3+GHZ with a 550MHZ DDR Memory buss!

Also, where is Xeon? I do not think I have seen him since we got the new forums.

Computer. I put the Liteon cd-rw on Secondary master and the new Liteon DVD-ROM on Primary Master. No problem. However, when the system comes up, it makes the DVDROM 2 drives. One the Liteon 166 and the other some SCSI driver. I never saw that before and wonder if I can just delete the SCSI drive? It all works but who need the 2 drive letters for the DVD-ROM?

EDIT: Dumb, it was Alcohol 120% virtual drive!
I think I saw some black bezels at Ajump.com for the LiteOn CDRW drives.

Michael is probably pissed-off at the forum screw-ups. The only reason I'm still here is because I started some threads and I have to wait them out. So, I'm continuing to be on this thread until the other threads are completed. This is just to aggravating having to search for the damn end of a thread every time I come here and having to deal with this stupid Java PopUp window for replies.

I don't know why your DVD would do that. I have my optical drives as PRI master and SEC master since my WD740 is going to be on the Promise SATA. They are both seen as one drive each as they should be, @POST and in Windows. They are both typical IDE optical drives, UDMA 33. I don't know what to tell you there.

Jim,
you are correct in that the v1016 bios is needed for added support for the 90nm chips. This includes the 3.2 and 3.4 EE cpu's. The only EE cpu that v1014 added to be supported was the 2.8E and 2.8A, which both have the 90nm core. The v1014a bios may run the 3.4EE but likely will not recognize it properly. The v1016 also fixed an issue where the Prescott Locked CPU cant run to highest frequency. This link gives the cpu support and bios version needed.

Dave,
you may want to take a look at the flip out door universal bezels. I am using them with my LianLi case and they work, very well. I don't recall what case you are using but these may be compatable.

Thanks all. I never even knew that I could change the bezel on the LiteOn LTR52246S drive. Also, I am usung the Antec Sonata case.

Computer...I found the problem with the 2nd drive letter...it was a driver...virtual drive...installed by Alcohol 120%. I disabled the Virtual drive and I am now OK. Also, can not find Liteon bezel on Ajump.

Hey everyone,

Though I would chime into this specific forum for my motherboard, please help!!!!

First, here are the detailed specs:
Intel P4 2.8C (retail)
ASUS P4C800-E Deluxe motherboard
Thermaltake 480W SilentPower
Aspire X-Dreamer II Case
(512x2)MB of DDR4 Kingston HyperX in Dual-Channel mode
(1) 120GB SATA HD and (1) 160GB IDE HD
Sapphire Radeon 9800 Pro
SB Audigy2
Samsung CD-RW and DVD-ROM

Now, everything posts perfectly. Every item is detected, including all IDE and SATA devices. POST shows no errors whatsoever.

But, I can't seem to install Windows XP. I've tried via a bootable CD-ROM and the six boot floppies. Here's what happens:

Computer boots, does the POST, and starts the XP setup with the remark, "Setup is inspecting your computer's configuration...". At this point, I'm like awesome! However, the computer then reboots after about 3-4 seconds of this message being displayed. If there is an error code it is not on the screen long enough to view it.

I've done what I can through the BIOS. The Promise controller is disabled for RAID functions (which I won't be using yet anyway) and I have the SATA drive on the Third "IDE" Master and set as my primary bootable drive (rather than the IDE drive, which is on the Primary IDE Master). The IDE HD on the Primary IDE Master port is set to "Master". Of course, the SATA HD does not have a master/slave jumper. Yay for SATA.

What could I be doing wrong? Or what setting have I missed? It seems odd that the system would just reboot by itself. Almost as if the motherboard is encountering an error and pushing a STOP command.

Any ideas? I'm really in a bind here as I have no idea what to try next. As I said before, everything is detetected properly. I haven't tried to install any other OSes (maybe I should do that), but I only want Windows XP Pro.

Thanks, I would really appreciate any assistance.

Update: I have removed the SATA HD and chosen the IDE HD as the primary/default boot HD. Same problem! I've also reseated all devices.

I'm having a slight problem getting my two SATA Raptors to form a RAID array. This would be my second rig running with this board, so I have set this up befor. I copied all the BIOS settings from my running rig and inout them on the non-functioning one. The rig is not overclocked at all (yet I have the two Raptors attached to the two SATA inputs that say "RAID 1" and "RAID 2". I then boot the computer and it gets to the screen where it is supposed to say "press ctrl-f to senter the RAID utility". It's someting like that I think. However, it just keeps looking for drives and it will keep adding "." after "." after "." like it is searching but cannont find anything. There is no option to press F1 at all. When I disconnect the two drives and boot, it says that there are no drives attached to the promise controller. So, I'm damned if I do, and damned if I don't.

The only thing different between the two rigs is that on the functioning one, the two drives are not native SATA. They are utilizing the PATA to SATA adapters. I shouldn't think it would make a diference.

Is there anything I am overlooking? My rig is as follows

P4 2.4C
P4C800-Deluxe
Intel HSF from a P3 3.2C
ATI 9800 Pro AIW
Audigy 2
Sony DRU DVD burner

Any help or ideas would be greatlly appreciated. Thanks

I've had similar experiences when my CPU was O'clocked too high, or my memory was clocked too high or its timings to tight. Set your CPU to default, PAT and Turbo off, and make sure your memory is set to manual and enter its correct timings manually. Disable Legacy USB in the BIOS while you're at it, that couldn't hurt. On a long shot, could be your power supply getting "choked".

Whut da heck is "Alcohol 120%"?

I'm not sure if Ajump has the bezel for that exact drive. I just went there and couldn't find ANY of their bezels, their search isn't working. So, I don't know how they are going to be listed. If you found them and didn't see it, then they don't have it. But if you couldn't find ANY bezels, then keep looking because they do have them for many drives. Ok, I found some on their "Free shipping" page, but none for the LiteOn. They are obviously not listing them in any search so it's going to be very hard to find ALL of them.

Some said Alcohol 120% is one of the best cd and dvd copy programs. Very full featured, but I still only use Nero6 for everything. I got Alcohol 120% to erase a cd-rw that would not erase. I finally found SuperBlamk...very worth having...it worked.

I guess I can live with the one beige drive!

OH, I forgot...too bad about Michael going away. He was a local.

Have you heard from Michael, where did he go? I was only guessing he left due to the new forum "Issues".

His website is located HERE. Don't know if it is still active since there has not been a post to the forums in quite some time.

As you all know I am using the Promise with 2 Maxtor SATA 80GB drives in RAID0. I just got a 250GB Maxtor Ultra133 drive for one of my ReplayTV's. It will not see it on the Promise. Is it true that IF I have a raid on the Promise, that I can only see 2 more drives on the PATA controller? It does not seem to see the Promise unless I turn RAID off?

Am I doing something wrong?

computer, I've tried all of these things! Ahhh, this is racking my brain. Maybe I should further investigate the memory timing issue but I did manually time them at 2-4-4-8, and even 3-4-4-8. Also, the power supply is a Thermaltake 480W. By "choked", how do you mean? Should I space out the power connections over more wires than the few that I am using?

Thanks for your input...

computer,

Well, this is it. I relaxed the timings on the Kingston HyperX DDR400 even further and now I don't even get a POST. I'm pretty sure I'm going to have this replaced RMA. I mean seriously. Now the CPU won't even power down (but the reset button does work). Isn't that a little strange? This happened immediately after I changed the timings on the RAM. I saved the changes, let it reboot and the screen is blank. No POST whatsoever. I also tried to ALT+F2 to restore the original BIOS to no avail.

Try this:
Turn off the PC
While holding down the Insert key - turn on the PC
You may have to do this a couple of times but it has worked for me when I have run into similar issues. Go back into the BIOS when you get a boot and reset to optimized.

If that does not work, then remove the battery and leave it out for about 5 minutes. Put it back in and try booting again.

Nice! I was able to get back into the BIOS using the INSERT key trick. Whew, you saved me on that one. After getting the POST it gave me an error about "over-clocking failed". Funny, I only specified the timings given by Kingston for this particular Dual-Kit! Oh well, at least the thing can boot now.

Thanks!!

You can also just clear the CMOS, but if you would have waiting a while and turn the PC on a few times, it is supposed to clear itself, at least mine does when it won't boot due to too high of an O'clock or too tight memory timings.

The power supply should be good enough, unless you have a lot of wattage and current hungry devices hooked up. Choked means too many components pulling it down, weighing it down.

Clint. Should I be able to have a SATA RAID on the Promise AND a PATA ultra 133 drive? I have it hooked up, but no config, short of saying I have no SATA Raid shows all 3 drives on the Promise.

Aggravating as hell isn't it!! I get that crap on mine ALL of the time when I unplug it for more than 12 hrs.!! "Overclocking failed", and EVEN get it when it's not even O'clocked!! I got into the BIOS and EVERYTHING is STILL set EXACTLY the same way! All I have to do is go in the BIOS, then exit, then restart and it starts ok then. That's some kind of a bad bug on this mobo.

I saw your last post on this, but I don't know. I never tried to hook up more than two devices at once on the Promise side, and then it was one SATA and one IDE. The manual may mention how many you can have at the same time. Is the new HD jumpered correctly? Sounds like it may not be.

I don't recall right off hand, but in the BIOS where you set the Promise to IDE or RAID, isn't that for SATA, or is it for BOTH SATA and IDE? IF it's for both, then that would mean you can't use 3 drives, only 2 or 4 since it can only be IDE or RAID mode both drive types and you can't have RAID with 3 drives.

I suspect both pairs is correct. I set BIOS to enable Promise nonraid. It shows the 2 SATA drives and the UltraATA. I was going to use MaxBlast CD to test out the 250GB Ultra 133, but it puts the Promise first, and the onboard IDE's become Controler 3 and 4...the CD is seen, but Maxblast boots and fails as its autoexec.bat does not see more that 2 IDE's. It is DOS.
