Here's a page from the P4C800 manual...
Mine is a xx-97500-01 and it is working fine so far. I did disable write combining and fast writes as I did with my P4G8X. I will be testing more with those enabled later.

P4G8X vs P4C800 compared

Hmm, interested to know if your ATI will work with Fastwrites enabled. It should as I read, all AIW don't have the same bug as the non-AIW 9700 Pros.

Hahahaha....this amuses me immensely....

The regular P4C800 uses ICH5R and drops the Promise Controller. Depending on your point of view, this is probably a better buy than the P4C800 Deluxe.

I would tend to agree.... Now all that needs to be answered is "why did Asus choose not to go with CSA ?"

Maybe so their price would be lower because they wouldn't have to pay Intel a licensing fee for CSA?

So anyone know where we can find one of these non-deluxe models in the retail? I'd be all over it, only if I can find one.

There is a beta bios out ver. 1006-003 that
is reported to have a higher vcore up to 1.95v

I just downloaded it and have not tried it yet so
I am not sure what else it contains at this point.

You can find it on x86-secret Here

BIOS version 1006 Beta 003 direct from ASUS.

Known changes: increased VCore options, fixed 166-199MHz FSB hole. Note MUST be flashed from DOS/Floppy and not the Windows updater for the changes to work.

The link from x86 has the AFUDOS.exe
and a P4C.BAT file with the 1006-3 in a zip file.
I used DrDOS as the startup boot disk and the bat file.
It worked perfectly. Just booted 175fsb and running Prime95 now.

All seems to be going well at this point.

Been running with Fastwrites enabled and the write combining checked for last couple of days.

No crashes, screen resolution reductions, etc. All is well.
Only minor improvement in benches. No big deal.

Not only that but a non-Deluxe model with 2 x Serial ATA, RAID 0 through Intel ICH5R (Microsoft Windows XP only) SoundMax 6 Channel Audio from the AD1985 codec with s/pdif out and 3COM 3C940 Gigabit LAN..... and they call this the non-dlx model.

Only thing that seems missing is Promise IDE raid and Firewire which I can do without very nice.

One more nail in the Deluxe version's coffin...

The Promise PDC20378 chip has a serious problem in this motherboard. I'm not sure if it's a BIOS or driver issue, but the fact is that, at least with XP SP1, don't even think about connecting anything to it. Everytime any hard disk connected to the PDC20378 is accessed, the system will stop for a fraction of a second; it's especially obvious if you are playing a sound or video file (because you'll see stuttering) but you can even see the mouse pointer stutter sometimes while you are moving it while the hard disk is connected.

This happens with both the PDC20378 RAID drivers and the "standard IDE" drivers.

So, basically, you must stick to the ICH5, which basically means no RAID with this board... At least not with XP SP1.

If anyone has tried it with other OSs, please let us know...

On the bright side, I did a head-to-head comparison between the Gigabit Ethernet performance of this board (non-CSA, 3Com chip) versus the Intel 875P board (CSA, Intel chip), and unbelievably, the
3Com is faster than the Intel chip. CSA gives extra bus bandwidth, but, apparently, the Intel chip is inferior... So Asus made the right choice there.

Looks OK. If it's WinXP, SP1 between (1) and (2) unless it has already been slip-streamed.

Forgive me I'm a newbie at computer hardware... I'm just trying to understand, what exactly is the FSB hole? Here is what I mean:

Asus came out with the board with the 875P chipset, and they support 800mhz FSB right? Ok... so I would assume that they would run at 800mhz FSB and everything right? But then I hear all this stuff about not being able to POST at 166-199. I know they are backwards compatible with 533/400 FSB processors, so I think my question is do you have to tell the board what processor you are trying to run when you set it up? Or do the boards just basically not run at 166-199 no matter what processor is in there?? I only ask this because I am planning on building an 875P system soon, and I would like to stick a 3.0C in there (800mhz FSB) so am I going to have problems when I try to set this system up? I am really kinda confused on this..... thanks for the help.

Thanks. I think this is the longest I've gone without reformatting in a loong time.

If you put a 800 fsb P4C in the board, you shouldn't have any problems. The issue is with folks who have had OC on other chipsets using 533 FSB P4's hitting the 166-199 zone on their old board, then trying to achieve the same here. Asus has a beta BIOS out already addressing the issue, although it appears to not be 100% stable for all.

Very nice for a first post, welcome... BTW I always keep hearing good things about this 3Com chip.

does the P4C800 work with a Celeron?
its a 1.8 128Kb cache. do i need to flash the bios?
the mobo manual says it will only support 256kb and 512kb cache.

when i install the celeron, it says in the bios that overclocking has failed even though I haven't even o/ced.

however, when i put a normal P4 in, it works ok...

Never see any replay this one.
I have same problem, can install Os to but every time boot ore power down it says in the bios that overclocking has failed.

There any bios settting that fixes this?

Don't really know if it is a Cele problem since I have never tried one.
You might try settings using manual for cpu, memory and agp/pci instead of auto and see if that clears it up.

I tried to install newest BIOS (1006) and all the drivers...
The Bad Bios message comes up time to time...and you can just reboot the system again to get rid of it..
When you reboot the system, it hangs quite alot of times..
And almost all the time, it saids overclocking failed and blah blah press F1 to goto setting, F2 to reload default blah blah...thing..
It works ok when you press F2 and reload default...
and once you succeed to boot up (/hurray!) it stays pretty ok...(tested by staying it on for a whole day)
I even tried to change the AI overclok Tuner to Manual and made the DRAM frequency to auto, 333, and 266.....
All I got was....that F1 and F2 message /sigh...

I am wondering if it's only the celeron problem so will be fixed when I get the new 800 P4 CPU or something wrong with my H/W

Btw my system is..
P4C800 Deluxe
Celeron 1.7 MHz
Crucial PC3200 DDR-DIMM 512MB CL2.5 5ns
Gainward GeForce4 Ti4800SE 128MB 3,3ns

I put Celeron on just to start up the computer till I buy P4 800 bus CPU...

Someone who has similar experience or if you fixed the problem plz post reply~~~
