Looking for other options and is 1gb really needed?

Thanks

Personally the 2.4C is a much better value and is the best overclocker you can buy right now. I would definately go with the 2.4 over the 2.6, but that's my opinion. I know you stated you didn't want to OC to start with but it would be a waist not to with the 2.4C. It would be like buying a ferari and then deciding you won't use 3rd and 4th gear.

For memory, there are a lot of good sticks out there, but I prefer the OCZ PC-4000 and 4200EL, if you can afford it, they do real well with this board. The PC-3500 and 3700 are also great sticks based on the reviews that I've seen.

As for 1 Gig being needed, that just depends on what you're doing with this machine and the apps you plan to run on it. You could go with 512 but if you purchase Double Sided RAM, then your stuck with having to replace the two sticks you buy now with completely new sticks because the P4C800-E will automatically disable PAT/PAM if you were to fill all four slots with 256 Meg sticks. I'd go with 1 Gig filling only two slots for best performance with double sided RAM. If you go with single sided RAM then this isn't an issue.

Hope this helps,

I purchased the memory a number of months ago and never even tried to run it at 3200 I have no I idea what Mushkin policy is on this.

Yep, it sounds like you have a bad stick alright. I'd send it back to Mushkin and they will replace it. Just contact their support and set it up to have them take back the sticks you have so they can send you another matched pair.

I have 1 primary IDE hard drive hooked up as primary master and 2 cd drives(writer and dvd) hooked up as secondary master and slave, respectively. Well everything was working fine on my old model motherboard, I change out the board and boot up and it seems ok. But when I reboot my secondary slave disapears(bios rev. 1014). Then I'll reboot again and it reappears(both in windows and bios).. So I was like hmm maybe its a bios problem because my pc speaker stopped beeping when I upgraded to bios rev. 1014, so I reverted to bios rev. 1011. Now neither windows or the bios detects my secondary slave.

Please help me out if you can.. Im thinking about reverting to the original bios to see how it acts but I'm tired of resetting all my settings. Thanks in advance!

***EDIT***

On bios revision 1011 I remedied this problem by just changing the jumpers to cable select.. even though both were previously set to master/slave correctly.

Well it sounds like you answered and fixed your own problem here. I don't own any IDE drives so I can't really test this for you but I was going to suggest the jumper settings may be the culprit. You can also try putting all the drives on the secondary/primary IDE and see if that rectifies your problem. I've seen other posts where people have put all the drives on one channel and set the jumpers and have fixed similiar issues.

Sorry I can't help you more here,

Hi all, I just finished putting this rig together and have a Seagate 160gig SATA hooked up to the Promise port w/XPproSP1. I have a maxtor 80gig ultra133 Eide and a IBM deststar 30gigEide available as well as 2 Seagate 160gig SATA that I have not opened yet. I am also connected to my P3 downstairs. I use a new ATIaiw9000pro for capture from camcorder and tv. I have used Sonic mydvd and showbiz in the past but now like using ATI-MMC8.7 and TMPGEnc DVD Author which I find does a GREAT job for me! I haven't loaded any software yet just my OS.

Hello hipster148, welcome to the forum!

Was there a specific question you had or were you just stating the equipment that you run? The reason I ask is you have a question mark icon for your message which seem to indicate to me that you had a question but I don't see a question in your message.

At any rate, welcome to the forum!

Hi Xeon, glad to join! I did, didn't I? I actually clicked on the new thread or post at the top of this page and asked a general question which was " Best hdd setup for video? but after I clicked post, it actually went on the main motherboard page? Well, I guess I just have to learn how to navigate better. lol I also have found that when I come to this "thread" I have to go thru all the pages to get to this current page? Boy! talk about being "green" Oh well, no big deal. I have this new box and want to setup the hdd's correctly/optimal. I ran out kind of prematurely & bought 3 seagate SATA's only because I thought they were a terrific buy even though I really can't afford it after just buying all this stuff but I do want to set it up correctly initially...well maybe? But everyone has a different opinion on what the "ideal" setup should be? I just figured I would exhaust all avenues of information/opinions before I actually form my own.Well that's enough out of me for now, lets hear what others have to say. Thanks and take care

Hello hipster148,

Oh hey no problem at all, I had the same problems with this forum when I first joined. To correct the forum view so that you don't have to page through to the end, this is what I do. You just have to set the right options in your profile and you can begin to see the last post first. This is what you set:

-Click the profile button that's right above the forum thread.
-Above your profile that pops up are two icons, the one you want to click on is called Personal Options.
-Once in the personal options part of your profile check the following boxes, 1) Would you like the messages sorted by date in Ascending or Descending order? Select the Descending Radio button. 2) Would you like to see the most recent Replied To topic at the top? Select the Yes Radio button.
-Click the Customize button at the bottom of the page to save your changes.

That should give you what you want for the forum view.

As for your original question. I would suggest running those new SATA drives as a RAID 0, especially since your needing them for files that are generally larger than most regular Windows files such as word documents etc.

You'll have to setup some things in the BIOS to run them as RAID, but I think you'll find the performance absolutely blows away a normal drive setup. Unfortunately you won't be able to run all three in the RAID 0 and will only be able to use sets of Two at a time, but if you later decide that you can afford another one of those drives you can create another RAID 0 on the remaining Promise Controller or ICH5R depending on which one you use to start with, using the left over drive you already have.

Hope this helps,

Bill, you can also just have a shortcut on your desktop for the last page. When the page changes, just right click the shortcut icon and change the number at the end of the URL to read "56" or whatever.

Hey Xeon , thanks for that tip as well
that helps ,,,,

Well the computer building bug has bit hard
Not sure why , ( maybe cause its cold and snowing outside )
but im gonna start a new project ,,, was gonna be a Shuttle mini , but i changed gears

Recently I bought a used Shuttle mini sys 875 intel/box and a 2.4c ,
but kept looking at a Coolermaster Praetorian case that was for sale ,
it came with a Coolermaster fan controller and a Clear Side panel

So I let the Shuttle Sys go and kept the 2.4c

Looks like Im gonna build the NEW PC around a P4C800-Deluxe "E" version

So hopefully soon I will be able to start filling up your inbox with lots of questions again

Im needing to buy some Ram ( OCZ ???)
and a HD ( SATA ?) and a Vid card , for this new one

Any recommendations would be appreciated

take care

I just bought some Seagate 160gig SATA 8mb cache,7200rpm at COMPUSA this week for $89.00 ea. after a $50.00 Seagate rebate. check their site out or store if available near you. Here is the link http://www.compusa.com/adproducts/html_ad/default.asp
I just checked the site and it was down for restocking duties at the moment though. That new case sounds awesome! I spent about 2 weeks looking into cases and finally bought a bland looking but very descent one ( I think I started to become overwhelmed by all the decision processes!) http://www.compusa.com/products/product_info.asp?sid=3FFB4C00623617F&product_code=300256&pfp=BROWSE I think they had coolermaster's there but they probably would be way more. I distinctly remember looking at 1 and it came with a water cooled setup built into the case w/all the fans too! That was nice but more than what I was looking to spend at the moment that's for sure. Well good luck< I just put this one together this past weekend but am still looking to do some hdd stuff before I load all my app's and misc. peripherals. later....

Your second link is bad Bill. ;-)

I guess you figured it out, but I forgot to say to right click the shortcut icon and then click "properties" then you'd see the URL with the page number at the end of it.

Yeah, I just fixed it. I should try to get in the habit of checking my links whenever I post one. Thanks though for the update!

Configure DRAM Timing by SPD. . . . . .[Disabled]
DRAM CAS# Latency . . . . . . . .2
DRAM RAS# Precharge . . . . . . 3
DRAM RAS# to CAS# Delay. . . 3
DRAM Precharge Delay. . . . . . .7
DRAM Burst Length. . . . . . . . . 8

Hi Everyone,

I'm using the following settings since they are defaults for my memory and I just started overclocking, but I have a couple of questions.

Configure DRAM Timing by SPC. . . . . . .[Disabled]
DRAM CAS# Latency. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . 2.5
DRAM RAS# Precharge . . . . . . . . . . . . . 4
DRAM RAS# to CAS# Delay . . . . . . . . . .4
DRAM Precharge Delay . . . . . . . . . . . . . 8
DRAM Burst Length . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . .4

I'm using OCZ 4000 Gold and like I said those are the default settings since I just started the overclocking process. I was just wondering why you recommend a DRAM Burst Length of 8 instead of the default of 4. Should I have mine set at 4 or 8?

Here is the rest of my system:

P4 2.6C
ASUS P4C800-E Deluxe
Sapphire Radeon 9800 PRO
OCZ 4000 Gold - 1G Dual Channel Kit
Sound Blaster Audigy
Air Cooled w/ SLK 900U

My second question is what kind of temps should I be looking for? Right now I'm testing a 250 FSB at 1:1 with a 1.625 vCore and I was up to 44C with Prime95 running.

Bill that's almost exactly like my cases. I wish I would have known you wanted one like that. Mine have a door and were $35. Buyextremegear.com had one for $35 like CompUSA has except with the door. That's where I got my current cases, but I can't find it at their site any longer. This is what I use now (for my 800-E Deluxe when I get it completed) and it's a good bit larger, only $68 (currently out). Link. Another variant here: Link . Wow, I got ripped, this one is like the Matrix case and only $55 now! Link .

Hello Krellor, Excellent choice of RAM!

I have the same stuff and it rocks. I run 2.5-4-4-7-4 with my sticks. The DRAM burst length is faster set to 4, but 8 is fine too. You won't see any real performance gains between the two, but it is faster. As I always say, as many here can attest, push to get the highest FSB and then start bringing your memory timings tighter. You'll find this is the best way to squeeze out the most performance from your box.

As for temps, your doing great if that's running two prime95's at the same time to load the machine. Anything under 50 and I wouldn't worry about it, if that's all your going to under load. As with all temps, the higher it is, the shorter the life of most electronics so keeping things cool is always important, but as I said, that temp is perfectly fine for being under load.

Take care and welcome to the forum!

Has anyone had any problems running dual channel on a P4C800-E Deluxe rev 2.00?

I have 2 sticks of Corsair XMS3200C2 512MB and they run fine one at a time in single-channel mode. They run fine together in single-channel mode. But trying to run both at the same time in dual channel and the computer turns on (all fans running) and just sits there and the monitor stays in sleep mode--no beeps or anything--just in a zombie-like state.

Anyone experienced this? It's a brand new board I just got from Newegg. I've changed power supplies, disconnected all MB accessories, IDE devices, etc. The only thing I haven't done is tried changing ram sticks. I might be able to get someone else to sticks his sticks in there and see if it does the same thing but I thought I'd ask here and find if anyone else has any problems like this.

Okay next question. How much vCore is safe on these processors? I see what you guys are talking about with the drops in voltage if you up it. I'm still testing 250 FSB but I'm at 1.7 now. That's the only voltage that doesn't drop below 1.6 when under load. So far I'm stable but I'm letting Prime95 run for a while. Is 1.7 okay or is it too much? My temp tops out at 46C with 1.7 so that shouldn't be a problem.

Let me know your thoughts!

I run dual channel just fine with my OCZ Gold PC-4000. Are you sure that it's not something else that's set in your BIOS that's not allowing you to post? If so, then your probably right, it sounds like you may have some flaky RAM, or at least one stick that's bad. Your also right in wanting to test another set of RAM to see if it's not something else (MB?). At least then you'd know if it's the RAM or not.

I've never heard of anyone else having this problem, except that their settings in the BIOS weren't right and it was the actual cause of the NO post issue.

Let me know your thoughts!

1.7 is running it pretty High. I personally wouldn't run it that high but there are some that do. 1.5875 and 1.6 are your best settings for VCore according to my testing. You can see my test data HERE I run at 1.6 as it is the only VCore setting that is .048 above and below the VCore set while idle and under load. In other words, it's the only setting that has an even split of the voltage range (.096).

Hope this helps,
