It seems to be a board limitation rather than a processor issue.

Look at me I'm at 166 I can post and run in windows up to 180FSB but its not gameable and I have to run my voltage pretty high...I back her down and love it. I can throw anything at it. PastorJay is running his at 185 or so. I think is more manufacturing then an actual chipset issue.

Here's a page from the P4C800 manual...

damn! I hope someone answers this as my 9700 has a 11 number! :frown:

So does mine... If there is a problem, I hope it's only on the Asus and not all 875P boards.

30 on up is a different rev of the card...... It's an ATI problem....

Its a P4C800 issue, not Aopen AX4C

Exactly...that's what I was pointing out.....the above post sounds like they are blaming it on the 875p's...

Yeah, they seem to work fine at default speeds, but I'm worried it'll limit the overclocking. All the people I've seen post about this aren't overclocking. I want to see someone running a 875P mobo with a -10 or -11 version 9700Pro and overclocking a 533FSB CPU to 175+ FSB. Then I'll be happy...

BTW, use SetFSB to overclock from Windows if you're stuck at 165FSB on the P4C800.

So it's not only 533FSB CPUs... The board can't boot between 166 and 199FSB.

Asus needs to fix this quickly.

Hi all,

Is the cost difference that much for ASUS to not have included the ICH5R and put Raid 0 on the Southbridge at 266MB as opposed to hanging the Promise 20378 Raid controller of what I assume is the PCI bus?

Granted the Promise controller seems to offer more capabilities, but.......

I'm beginning to think I really made a mistake on ordering this mobo. I wanted a machine for highspeed video editing and ordered: P4C800, 3.00 P4 800 FSB, 2 X 512MB Corsair DDR, and 2 X Raptors.... I was convinced I had optimized everything.

So, tell me...... do I have this right......is the Promise Controller hung of the PCI bus? Will I be limited to bursts of 133/MB when in RAID 0? Why didn't ASUS include the ICH5R. Do I need to read the fine print more carefully? Do I need to start screaming for get my order changed?

Thanks in advance for....... whatever....... insight you all may have..........

How will gbit ethernet help w/ online gaming ??

If you have a cable/dsl connection running 1024mbits connected to a 10 baseT (10mbs) , how will gbit help ?

Even if you have a T1 or T1 fractual your still looking at 10mbs .

So other than Intel locking out other vendors(nics) and forcing mobo makers to pay extra for an intel gbit nic I don't see the benefit.

Look how Intel treated 1394, it wasn't there patent so they pushed usb..

Someone please explain..

Regards,
Jose

Look how Intel treated 1394, it wasn't there patent so they pushed usb.. Intel has never treated IEEE1394 badly, and in fact were big supporters for it. The original replacement for the mighty 440BX chipset, the 440JX, was to have dual 1394 controllers on the PIIX6 South Bridge. Intel shelved the idea for integrated controllers after lack of overall x86 industry support for FireWire.

Someone please explain..

Jose

I put a new computer together with the ASUS P4C800d and heres the specs so far:

2.4ghz p4 (A)
2 gigs of Corsair XMS Twinx1024x3200LL(matched Pair)DDR400
Asus P4C800D (i875 Canterwood)
2 WD360 Raptors SATA
Geforce 4 TI 4600 (albatron medusa w/thermaltake fan and tin coated copper ram sinks)
420w Thermaltake Silent Pure Power w/ PFC
Zalman CNPS-7000 w/ fanmate controller
Audigy 2
Plextor 504A DVD/CD burner
Xaser III v2000a Thermaltake Aluminium Case

Everything is working great except a couple minor minor issues which I'm sure is due to my lack of knowledge of build a puter, just usb connectors and such a few I think are switched (+ - grnd, etc) no biggie,) I'm trying to figure out how to raise the FSB to 200mhz if thats even possible..without overclocking the CPU, but some people say that when I raise the RAM frequency it will raise the CPU speed, anyhow besides all of these minor issues I would really like to know why when I boot up I get 1 shot beep shich according to my AMI BIOS mean memory refresh error? What precisely does that mean? Now as far as I can tell from windows, bootup, bios, and sisoft sandra all my ram is there and working and installed correctly...so why am I getting this 1 short beep? So far all my programs and games have worked fine...also my memory timing is set to SPD...

does the P4C800 work with a Celeron?
its a 1.8 128Kb cache. do i need to flash the bios?
the mobo manual says it will only support 256kb and 512kb cache.

when i install the celeron, it says in the bios that overclocking has failed even though I haven't even o/ced.

however, when i put a normal P4 in, it works ok...

Anyone know of any problems with an Abit Ti4600 vid card and this mb?

I'm gonna be ordering a board, a 3.0 P4 and 2 256 Corsair XMS 400 MHz dimms for a guy later today and don't want any unpleasant surprises....

Thanks!

So the 3com Gbit nic will work on other boards that have CSA ?

Or is CSA only an Intel thing ?

Jose

CSA is an Intel thing and certain components weren't available, so ASUS went with the 3Com solution.

Just as another warning, if you try and change the USB Ports option in the BIOS from the default 8 Ports to 4 Ports, the board will not boot from a Windows XP CD-ROM. If you drop it to 6 Ports, it will boot off CD-ROM. Upgrading to the 1004 BIOS didn't fix it.

Use SetFSB in windows to bypass the fsb void problem.
