Jose!!
Why ?? Are all the problems w/ the 875p chipset associated w/ high speed ram.
Check my signature.
I had OCZ PC3500 Running in it at 470 and it was awesome. Now I bought 2 512 stick of Twinmos PC3700 with Winbond 4.3 ns chips and its even more awesome.
There is no problem with high speed ram and 875p chip.

I really don't have any idea why you guys are having these bios issue problems. I have run Corsair XMSPC3200LL, Kingston Value Ram, Kingston HyperX and TwinMos PC3700 on this board and have never had the fsb below 250. Have flashed the bios from 1003 to 1004 to 1006 back to 1004 to 1006 again and to 1007 and back to current 1006. Maybe your board revision is newer or different or something. This board has never given me or many many other no problems. Now there are others that have had problems such as yourselves but every board that is made with give problems to someone.

Hope everything works out for you that are having issues but I have ordered a P4P800 to build another system just because of how well my P4C800 has performed. The P4P800 is tested to be as fast as the P4C800 but for less $$. We shall see. Actually, the P4P800 will most likely outperform my P4C800 as I will be using a 2.8C and a 1.1 mem ratio at 245fsb DDR490.

Real bummer. I know it was a check sum error so the CD should of fixed it.
Well I left the battery out while I'm at work so that'll beabout 15 hours instead of the 7 1/2 last time. But hust how long can the bios stay w/ no power?

I know

I feel bummed that I have to pay $40 to get the new chip since it is nothing that was really my fault (changing vdimm voltage), but at this point I need the PC back up now for work from home issues and I cannot take the time to do the dance with either GoogleGear or ASUS by shipping things back and forth and waiting days/weeks for someone to take action.

Sometimes you just have to bite the bullet even though it sucks

BIOS upgrade question.

If I want to upgrade my BIOS to the new 1007 Beta version, do I take the zip file and rename the file 1007.012 to P4C800.ROM and then use the EZ Flash program to bump it up to 1007.

Thanks

It seems to vary from person to person - if you read through the thread you'll get an idea about what has been working.

jdmesty - I remember that you were saying that the North Bridge Controller was unalligned with the base plate it sits on so that it's a square under the P4 chip instead of a diamond (like the base plate). I noticed that this was the case for me as well and I;m wondering if this is a defect of if the grpahic is wrong in the manual and it's like that for everyone.

I don't think that I ever said anything about the orientation of the heatsink.

When I got the board, i did see that the heatsink is parallel to the CPU chip in looks and not in the diamond shape that the manual and reviews showed.

I think they are just releasing the board now with the heatsink fixed that way.

Either way it makes no diference to me.

I got the replacement BIOS chip a few minutes ago from ASUS so either tonight or tomorrow I'll post a note about if the replacement chip fixed my blackout. Crossing my fingers that it does.

Either way I think you may want to either send your chip back to be flashed or buy a new one. They offer an overnight or regular shipping (2-10 days) option. I just couldn't wait because of work related issues.

***************UPDATE*******************

Ok, I fianlly called ASUS tech support and he steped me through some tests.
One test was to remove all agp/pci cards from my computer and start the system up which I did, and it posted. I then plugged my ASUS G4 TI 4600 graphics card in as started my system up, no post. I had a spare G3 pro card so I plugged that in and restarted the system and it posted. I ran through the post and shut down and switched to my G4 card and it ran fine.
ASUS guys are testing the ASUS G4 TI 4600 cards in their lab now and it looks like that might be the problem. They said it'll be a software patch if that is indeed the case.
So right now I can get all the way till XP goes to the desk top then the video feed cuts out. I remember running into this before and it'll require an XP repair being run off of the XP CD.
So there you have it, might be an issue w/ the graphics card and the motherboard.

Hey glad to hear you got your MB back up using the G3 spare card. I have a Visiontek Ti-4600 so maybe that was my problem also. Either way I didn't have a spare AGP card to figure it out though I used a spare PCI card with no luck getting a POST but I did gets lots of beeps so maybe I was close.

Well i just got home and plugged in the replacement BIOS chip ASUS sent me and I am back up now also with POST and XP.

I'm out the $40 bucks but I'll just bill that back to my company so no loss of funds out of my pocket.

Now I'm scared to try and up my BIOS to the 1007 beta version. Will just wait til the final version is released.

Boy this board seems to be real twitchy when it comes to memory and dual channel and now a video card issue also. Even with their own ASUS 4600 card. You think they would have some feedback on their own cards.

Good luck

Yeah I don't know what is going on w/ some of my other issues.

My 400DDR DC mem will only run at 320, any attempt to move it up to 400 results is a bios crash. Also I noticed that the AGP is at 4x instead of 8x and I don't know if there is a setting to change that in the bios. I think I'll wait for a 1007 final before trying to change these as well
I tried over clocking (X10) and that seems to be working great so I may bump it up to X20 and beyond to see what the limits are.

I recently bought this board and for the most part it rocks! There is an issue though that I can't figure out. Ok I have my 2 200 GB HDs setup in raid 0 array and I am having the weirdest problem. If I am listening to MP3a or any sound for that matter and transfering files onto the array, my sound begins to crack and pop for the duration of the transfer. When I tell you I have tried everything, I have tried EVERYTHING! I upgraded the bios to(beta 1007.10), upgraded the Promise fastrak raid drivers(1.0.0.25), bought a new sound card(from a Creative live to an Audigy2)switched PCI slots, disabled the onboard lan and installed a PCI nic, changed power supply to a Antec True Power 550, Changed thePCI latency speed, cried and prayed to every god in the bookI have read that I am not the only one and others with this board are having the same issues when setup like this. To make it weirder I heard of someone returning this board and getting the Abit IC-7 and experiencing same issue. It seems this is an issue with Creative cards and the new Canterwoods. I worked in I.T. for the last 5 yrs and have built numerous systems and this prob got me bad. If I transfer to a drive that is not in raid it works fine and if I transfer between drives locally it works fine. I transfer files over my network while listening to mp3s or watching divx movies often. If anyone has this board with there drives in a Raid 0 config and a Creative card, I would be extremely grateful if you can try this on yours. I want to rule out that it is the boards issue with onboard raid that I have been reading about or maybe its just a bad apple in the bunch. After doing some research it seems I am not the only one- http://www.abxzone.com/forums/showthread.php?s=&threadid=43553&perpage=15&pagenumber=1 Thanks for any help or suggestions

Supacat,

Go back a couple of pages and look at my posts. What you are experiencing is a known issue with the Promise controller.

Latest news I heard is that apparently it's actually a *hardware* problem with the Promise controller. Rumour is that Asus is going to launch the new P4C800-E Deluxe, with the ICH5R, in great part because of that.

If you cannot / don't want to return you P4C800, I'd suggest you get a PCI RAID card and disable the onboard Promise controller. It's a cheap and efficient solution.

I don't know aifante, his problem seems to be a bit different. He has popping and cracking throughout the duration of the song, not just at the initial start of the file playing. It still seems like it might be the controller though. Different problem, however, it might still be related. On the other hand, I have my rig set up in a RAID 0 Array with an Audigy 2 card and was having the same problem with the stuttering also. However, when I upgraded to the 1007 beta BIOS, all problems went away. The only difference I see between out setups us that my PATA drives are connected to the SATA ports via a PATA to SATA thingamajig (sorry, the name escapes me, yes I feel stupid). At least ASUS realizes the problem and is going to do something about it. They should offer to replace anyones board that was setup as a RAID0 array that was expereincing the issue. I guess maybe you could prove it with a screenshot or something from Sandra that you ACTUALLY had the board setup as a RAID0. Ahh, then I woke up dreaming again.

Anyone having trouble with multiple drives in their systems?

Right now, I have two Segate 80GB SATA drives running RAID 0. I have a CDRW drive, I have an older 80GB Maxtor HD, and a 30GB Maxtor HD.

Now, the raid array works great, the CDRW drive works great, and ONE of the other two hard drives work great. But for the life of me, I cannot get both of these drives to show up at the same time!! Whether one is a master and the other is a slave on the same IDE channel, or one is all alone, and the other is a slave to the CD drive. No matter how I do it, only one drive gets picked up in the BIOS. When booting up, the bios also hangs slightly while searching for the IDE drives....

But as soon as I unplug one of the drives, the bios boots normally and the one drive gets picked up in the bios. So if I have my 80 gig plugged in alone, it works fine, or if I plug in my 30 gig alone, that works as well. But as soon as I try to have them both up and running, only one will come up

I've tried setting them to cable select, individually to master or slave... and every possible combination I could, but can't seem to get it to work. So, anyone else had a problem with this? It isn't a huge issue since I do have 240GB of storage in there right now, but the extra 30 GB would be nice

Ok I have the Afudos.exe prog and the 1007 beta BIOS on floppy. I've booted to DOS with a bootdisk. I can't figure out how to flash the BIOS using the command though. What's the command you type in to get it flashed properly?

Any help would be appreciated, can't figure out how to work the command properly...

Thanks figured it out! Man the new BIOS rules, it's sooo much better than 1006. I can run my RAM 2-2-2-6-4 now woot! Before I could only get 2-3-3-6-4 without crashing. The new "Turbo" option seems to boost performance quite a bit too. I got 17200 3d marks in 3D Mark 2001se first run. System specs in sig.

You have basically my exact same system, except I have Kingston RAM. Are you running 2 sticks in dual channel mode? I can't run at 2-2-2-6 unless I'm in single channel mode.

Anyone running the lastest BIOS 1006? They removed the Performence options for Turbo and such.
and i cant get an uncorrupted zip for beta version 1007-012 to test that out.

I dont see why Anandtech has the MSI board as their #1 since this board out performs it in like 2/3 of the tests... Also dont the ICH5R boards only have 2 SATA instead of 4 like this board?
